I've never been on a forum with such restrictions before. The restrictions are strange, but tolerable.

ya I agree. It's kind of weird to make posts in here when you know you're just doing it to get out of jail. By the time I'm out of jail I'll have forgot what I wanted to post in the first place.
I have definitely forgotten what wanted to post about in the first place. But n00b jail isn't so bad--it's like any tutorial you're forced to complete, like in tons of games.

As someone who doesn't always have a lot to say 5 posts to get out of newbie jail so I can make useful posts is kind of...odd. Oh well guess my 1st 5 posts won't be very useful unfortunately. ;\

Its not like I have gathered enough knowledge yet to say anything intelligent on general forums, but still... Getting rid of the newbie tag is something I would rather do sooner than later.
Frankly, for a first week or so the time spent on writing ignorant replies on main boards can be better spent on reading stuff already there. At least that's the case with me.
Its not like I have much truly valuable to contribute anytime soon as the whole Bitcoin phenomenon is so huge to grasp.
Mining, trading, investing, earning, political implications, future, speculation, etc...

I don't understand the total time logged in. I've been logged in for 3 hours but in only says 30 minutes You are not connected all the time through http. Once you request a page and it's downloaded, if you don't do anything else, you are considered disconnected after a certain amount of time. You can set your browser to reload the page every 4-5 minutes, and it'll do it for you. If you use Internet Toy Explorer, it'll probably won't. In such case, get a real browser first.

I guess this is a good idea. I really am interested in learning more about the mining aspect. I am new.

I was lurking for some time. Reading, learning, reading... Then I finally got something useful to say. And then I end up here. The time restriction is ok. If I paid enough attention to the possibility I may want to post something in the future, I would have registered long ago. But the post count restriction... I never liked this kind of rules. It reminds me of Inifinite monkey theorem http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infinite_monkey_theorem :]

Well after reading the first post I see that signing up so I could post about the issues I'm having with slush's pool won't do me any good since I can't post.
I run a phpbb and the way I deal with spammers is to require a board admin to approve the account, it might take a while but its better than this.
My options are beg to be given access to ask for help or spam until I get it, seems kind of counter productive.

I've been reading for months, before making an account, then never posted because I never saw the need to. Now I wanted to post something, and couldn't, took me ages before finding these restrictions. Might I suggest they are actually listed in the profile or something, so wellwilling people can actually know about it?

It's in the "registration agreement" now, so most new users should notice it.

Hmm, these restrictions are a pain, I am a constant reader of the various posts, but when I finally wanted to post a meaningful answer (my first one), I couldnt.

You've had an account here for a month, I would have thought you could find the newbie restrictions then.

i can see the need for the restrictions and will definitely follow them.
but i wanted very badly to post in a non-newbie thread, which is why i signed up in the first place. maybe we could have option for one single non-newbie posts out of the first 5?
