I know guys that the price action is good, and everybody likes green dildo's (#nohomo), but Jay "do nothing" Powell is testifying at the House , and he's saying a lot of intresting things.

Seen it. Boy, is it bad.

For some reason he glued Jesus into a remake of Les Valseuses.

There's the odd moment but it doesn't half jerk to sudden halts and disappear off down dead ends. He's better left a perfectly formed memory.

Obviously the number isn't news here but I wonder if the portion I quoted below is really what's happening, a spark that creates unstoppable inertia...

BTC started rising during the market sell off triggered by coronavirus. That was just the short-term catalyst, the underlying driver is the bitcoin halving event in May. Previous halving events have seen some of the larger participants hold off on releasing BTC into the market in anticipation of a rise into the event. We believe this same dynamic is currently in play.

"Powell's remarks had nothing new and toed the party line," said Jon Hill, U.S. rates strategist at BMO Capital Markets. "Rates are in accommodative territory. They're on hold for the foreseeable future."

If Powell said nothing new, why rates are falling off?

This technicality apart I was referring mainly to FED REPO operation, discussed here and the advent of FED in the realm of Crytpocurrencies, the so called CBDC.

A few sentences were of utter importance:

Quote
Powell: preserving the centrality of a widely accepted currency is an enormously important thing. Whether a digital currency moves us along that path is an open question.
Quote
Powell: It’s incumbent on central banks to understand the costs, benefits and trade-offs associated with digital currencies.
Asked about a digital currency, Powell says:
Quote
“Having a single government currency at the heart of the financial system is something that has served us well.”

So the real problem with digital currencies is: USD is a World Reserve, they fear that opening to CBDC could ease the transition to Bitcoin in the main adoption.
Once BTC has gained traction on the general public, the effectiveness of their monetary policies will be greatly reduced. They will lose then one of the main leverage for the governments, and, in the end, will lose powers.
They built supercarriers and nuclear missiles to preserve their power, for sure they don't want to lose it because of a nerdish decentralized, trustless system.
They realized it and now you can smell their fear.
However, the genius is outside the lamp since 2009, the future is inevitable.

Quote
Powell: Northern European economies have moved away from cash to a remarkable degree, more so than the U.S.
Quote
Powell said many questions need to be answered before adopting digital currencies in the U.S., including cybersecurity.

This is dystopian future he's depicting. Once again is not cybersecurity what they fear, but the lack of control.
Not because it's right, but because they can.
Cashless society is dystopian slavery.

Yes I agree. I think the gov't folks will continue to hammer as long as they can on the false narrative of crypto being a haven of criminals. I don't share your optimism that they can't stop it, maybe technically they can't really but they sure can make it hard enough for the average person in their jurisdiction to use that the difference between being banned and heavily regulated will make no practical difference. I don't think that overly pessimistic view will happen either though as so many of the moneyed class in power are already heavily involved in crypto. I suspect the end game is that all the old fogeys will hold onto their beliefs until they are replaced by new blood that has already embraced the technology and figured out ways to maintain or increase control while enjoying the benefits.

Why have you got "Baby Blue Panties" as your personal text? Is that the colour of knickers you are wearing today?

If this continues you're going to find a poisoned umbrella tip locating a major blood vessel. Final polite warning.

Surely Bitcoin is gaining popularity and last night's $68 billion injection isn't exactly inspiring confidence in the dollar either.  Watching this shit unfold, I wouldn't dare get caught without some BTC in such times.
Bitcoin, the only hedge that matters.

Seems like I touched a raw nerve. So you are wearing Baby Blue knickers today.

I take that back. You must have changed your knickers and are now wearing "27.9659 82.8001 - Protocol 781" colored knickers today.
