On a semi serious note..just talking about things can be helpful for some. Hope you feel better soon.

I already do feel like a bit of a load is off, and seeing Bob and LFC open up first helped. I just need a more positive outlook I think.

I thought of my Father, Mother and Sister.  How I loved them.
I thought of my daughters.  And I think this is when I began to weep a little.  I wanted to see them grow up.
I thought of my warm, loving wife and how our lives are so intertwined, and I really really did not want to leave her alone.
I thought of God and the life He had given me (no offense to you atheists. Wink and how much I really did not think I was done with it yet.

Wow cAPSLOCK thats was a true beautiful post, glad your still here and will continue to be here, for your whole fam. and for us WO's ...

I almost wanted to have a fun answer, but felt it could be inappropriate, cause this is such an eye opening post, to truly value important things over just money/gadgets and related stuff.

So people will start moving to bitcoin. Maybe lightning network, that in the mean time will have developed a simple, effective and robust user experience via mobile wallets.

Thats the only advantage FB coin would have over proper crypto, convenience and perceived stability.    I think actually a positive move for encouraging the idea of using online blockchains as digital currency and in the end Bitcoin will be found to be superior on a number of fronts.   Improving the convenience and any sharp edges Bitcoin might have for the average user is increasingly important as its exposure passes the normal technology aware contingent to just normal users

Regarding Russians buying massive amounts of Bitcoin as a kind of reserve, they increased buying of gold far more recently - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwOcWWv-0Ho
The reason why its really unlikely Russia or any government of size is involved with Bitcoin is any move they make would make a large splash, more of a tidal wave in the available Bitcoins in circulation.   It does not explain the recent rise, I believe that was a reaction to dollar liquidity and the move would be far larger for any actual direct buying from a public purse.
Its not impossible Russia might hold some BTC but it would be tiny amounts, pocket change compared to anything substantial on their balance sheets.    China I think is carefully disguising just how much gold they are accumulating, becoming the worlds largest producer is not especially obvious when they are soaking up that production by also being the worlds largest buyer.    The Chinese government also buy up gold mines where they can, I was involved in one that became non viable when Gold lost its last spike and was absorbed into that command economy where private and public interests are merged at will

If you are the worlds largest buyer by far you have the advantage of knowing the schedule and likely pricing of gold long term far exceeds the price at which this mine operates, meaning they can buy up an insolvent mine at fire sale prices when in fact the gold resource at that mine is highly profitable still.    The Chinese buy many mines in this way while being the largest 'consumer' of gold and many other commodities.   In some cases Chinese are blocked from buying a national resource but they certainly acquire mines at advantageous prices while market prices are suppressed.    The Chinese were blocked from buying Potash of Saskatchewan for example, with the company being merged into a larger private entity rather then absorbed by a foreign government in this way.

China nor Russia wont declare their interests openly and take measures to avoid front running but I dont think either is accumulating Bitcoin as a reserve currency.   Gold can rise to 10,000 an ounce, it can certainly double meanwhile but both these buyers have no interest in causing that price to become apparent.   If I thought they were operating in Bitcoin markets in a similar way I'd say but so far theres no sign or excuse to favour that theory  imo

Useful thanks, there is also pricedingold tracking something similar

I shorted Bitcoin a bit, it closed automatically at some small profit and price has gone right back up.   Guess I cant complain and maybe its bullish.   Target to test is 8200 as a ceiling and I dont presume this is positively more then sideways till it closes above that previous daily bar with confidence.
I go with the ironic take that now 200 day average is rising, we should go back and meet it medium term.   Shorter term any negative in the price I'd take profits at 6609 and 6178 as its most likely to bounce in this range while catching everyone out

Backtest your emotions. We've seen five of these blowoff tops. Factor the next one in before it gobsmacks you.

That's some OG sense.

my problem seems to be not to recognize the blowoff tops correctly. 2013 bull move exploded from $120 to $1200 in one month. doubled within a day at the end. 2017 top went there much slower. when it was around $20k I expected a blowoff to $30k or $50k. I was monitoring BETI and it did not work for me.

maybe the blowoff momentum went into shitcoins in dec 2017. i missed it completely, was shell shocked and only able to unload 1/3 of stash around $8.5k.

I know what will happen next time around: in an attempt to not be late again I will sell at $50k and then price will paint a blowoff to $100k or $150k  Cheesy

Maybe this hat will help you to recognize blowoff tops1 - that's a 600W bulb btw.

Yes. Bitcoin.com provides prominent notice that BCH and BTC are two different things. Faced with that knowledge, if the newcomer is not prompted to perform the requisite five more minutes of due diligence, they'd lose their money in short order no matter which direction they go.
JB for fuck sake please stop saying this again and again. Please do not get blind to see how they are phushing BCH shit on their website. Have you even read the emails they send to their subscribers. In every emails they push BCH. I have never seen an email where they pushed to buy Bitcoin.

Of course they push BCH.

Yes, they provide prominent notice that BCH and BTC are different. Ergo, anyone purchasing BCH from them knows damned well that it is not BTC. Accordingly, no fraud has been committed. Purchaser is fully informed as to the difference. Purchaser receives exactly what they bought.
Adding the useless qualifier "core" to bitcoin just to mix it up with bcash (which does need a qualifier) borders on fraud.
We don't need to explain you that, do we?

Waiting for the day the site properly calls bitcoin "Bitcoin" and bcash "Bitcoin Cash".

Id like to tell you a story about two brothers.

One brother was a very famous rich ultrapreneur, he had a beautiful wife. They had 3 lovely children aged 3, 5 and 7.
They lived in a beautiful cottage, surrounded by woodland. Everyday He walked by the river. He was very happy and content.

are you the other brother?

LOL did not read. BCH is the other brother. we will see.  Grin

I been through the horrible drop in portfolio value.

I'm surprised at the number of people here shaken by the pump and dump. I treated that high as no more than a theoretical figure. Trying to realise it with the amount of chain and exchange seizure would've been a lottery, and of course no one knew that was the peak though it certainly showed every sign.

As it headed to poo land my main fear was being bored shitless again for several years until it came back to life.

The thing I've been most stirred by is how similarly the whole thing has played out so far compared to the previous bubble.

Yeah, I’m in no rush. Happy to enjoy the ups & downs for at least another year before I start thinking ‘right, the next 18 months are crunch time for me’.

We can’t control the bitcoin beast, she’ll do what she wants to do. We’re mere bystanders hoping to profit handsomely (well even more handsomely).

Well I was trying to go along with some of the factors that you presented, and if you are not really satisfied geographically, then either you have already identified another place that would work better for you, or if you do not really want to settle down geographically then I would think that considering just minor maintenance home and car, and then the rest of the money would be used to travel and to figure out a place that would be more suitable for you.  Then the business would come out of that, unless it allowed you the geographical mobility.

Ultimately, the formula and thinking around the whole issue about how much you need and how much do you want to spend on your base will determine how much value you have left to generate enough income in order to satisfy your remaining needs of food, beverages and entertainment and lodging becomes a bit of a different amount of expense (and formula) if you are more mobile or still trying to determine if another location would suit you better (do you have to try out the new location first, or do you already sufficiently know that part in order to just jigger your calculations a bit to include that?)

I understand that it could be difficult to lock down amounts exactly, if you remain uncertain about the location, but you could still speculate.. and it may be more useful to account for various scenarios, including one scenario that has enough capital to totally say fuck you to any business to the extent that it ties you down geographically... and that might mean saying fuck you to any business, unless you really believe that the business is something that you are wanting for some kind of self-fulfillment thing, but if you have enough income then you are not necessarily going to need that self-fulfilling part, so then the calculation becomes about how much do you need in order to really get the part that you actually want, without necessarily being tied down to obligations that are mostly in the category of income generating, rather than self-fulfillment.

Good lord.
If you have too take a breath before finishing reading a sentence out loud, I'd say its too long....
