Fucking conspiracy theorists.

Some dude i came to slowly build personal relations with over a couple of years now, and this is a rare type of event in my life, actively texted me today about chemtrails.
I was like "R U SERIOUS?!". I had these visual, clear words in my mind: "the show must go on. Always...".
After re-texting a few dozen lines of debunkenings and solid reasonings against various absolutely insane sub-theories and statements, i came to a conclusion:

There goes a friendship candidate.

Years wasted.

I mean, i wouldn't agree to ban Telegram, WhatsApp and the likes, but these message groups avalanche in mobile social media clearly goes over the top of most peoples heads.
Still i got no WhatsApp, i am not in a single messaging group in other messenger apps, of which i only use one .more or less regularly.

I mean no offence here, but your attitude is juvenile. Who cares if your friend believes in chem trails or other obvious crazy conspiracy theories. Is he hurting anyone by believing in that? People believe in all sorts of sh1t, and so what, I bet you even believe in things others disagree with. Perhaps even some of your existing friends and family. And why try to debunk his crap? If someone thougt chocolate ice cream was the best but you thought vanilla ice cream was the best would you argue with them about that then cut them out of your life when you couldn’t convince them.

Seriously, cutting people off because their thinking doesn't align with yours is exactly why the world is so god damn divided these days. Whatever happened to agree to disagree then continue on with things that you both agree.

I actually have a friend who believes in more than just chem trails, he also believes in a flat earth, fake moon landing, mystical energy sources, and other crap. Yeah, I think he is crazy, but he is a nice guy and I enjoy his company. In fact, being that he is open to others ideas he is now also a bitcoiner. I have other acquaintances who are ardent no coiners and they are very unaccepting of others and other ideas.

My partner believes in flat earth 🌏
My partner believes in chem trails
My partner believes in fake moon landing

As for mystical energy sources we both believe in that. Since they are mystical they don’t define well and are easy to believe in.

Most likely I am able to be his friend because we both believe in solar.
He has a solar company.
We like mining gear.

Also having had a complete psychotic break and seeing a lot of unreal shit I can honestly tell you
The universe can do whatever the fuck it wants in fact it does so I don’t sweat the small stuff.

So you have a common cauuse that you are working towards but don't agree with everything. My god man! How do you do it.

Like I said if you saw some of the shit I have seen from 1979 to 1985 you would know there is more to the picture than meets the eye.

But I am a deep endless universe/multiverse guy so the flat earth one is the hardest one for me to keep the peace on.

They move from chem trails to moon landing conspiracies...its just insane and impossible to have a sane discussion with them.

They refuse to listen to facts and use due diligence to do a fact check and just fall back on layers of logical fallacies.

I've dealt with a few and have just given up and cut ties and wish I had done it sooner and not wasted my time in the first place.



TLDR: I agree get way quick there is no hope for them when they start evangelizing.

I have a first cousin like that. Very smart, high IQ, but you just can't reason with him. There is no hope. Best course of action is to agree to disagree, keep contact to a minimum and move on.

Cousin refuses to visit doctors/hospitals for "reasons". Never been to a dentist and refuses to use toothpaste to wash teeth "because of the chemicals they put in there to dumb us down". He has now lost 2/3 of his teeth (even some front ones).

I really hope that doesn't happen. While i am not against using ChatGPT to help answer question, i think a straight copy and paste isn't the best way to utilize such a powerful tool.

There is a post earlier in the thread that pointed towards the lowering of overall IQ. I don't think that trend is going to reverse anytime soon, especially with the advent of ChatGPT and AI.

I mean, did you really understand what Segwit and Taproot is? based on the answer above?, if not, then how would you expect someone else too, right?...

And if you did understand it, i would have really, really, appreciated the response more, if you took the time and wrote what you thought it was/is, based on the ChatGPT response or research you had conducted.

It is likely best for us to attempt to put these matters in our own words in order to really attempt to engage with the subject matter and to demonstrate  that we understand the materials well enough in order to grapple with the ideas for a bit and maybe even relating the ideas to some personal experiences.

So, surely there can be some decently written ChatGPT pieces or even some very informative wikipedia pieces, but then if we might be trying to apply certain aspects or to explain, perhaps, why we might use taproot in one situation and not use it in another situation.. or we might give an example in terms of how we had used some variation of some wallet or made some transaction in real life and then maybe we would have been in a better or a worse situation if we had used one kind of BTC transaction versus another as compared with some other options that we might have in our real life circumstances.

Well I still have issues with BTC working for hundreds of years. I think scrypt  algo with LTC/Doge is much better for a 200 year run than BTC

but yeah Fiat is on Life support.

And with me being 66 and no kids BTC only needs to do well for 20 years.

My advice which according to JJG is terrible is:

Sounds kind of technical for these here parts, but hey?  maybe some guy might be willin to go down the 'splainin path with you, but not this here cat.  i am too busy with non-technical matters.. or at least I see that there are a variety of wallet option types and some support legacy only, or legacy segwit or segwit with bech 32 or taproot (I think in that order), and I fucking have hardly any clue regarding when to use which, even though it seems that I have been using bech 23 addresses a lot recently and it got me into a bit of quagmire once (just last week when I sent a legacy segwit to a bech 32 address and then it kind of got lost for a while - did not go through.. yet I was able to send it again (after about 4 days of my wondering where the transaction had gone.. it was a decently sized transaction.. just saying.. but whatever all is good in JJG landia in regards to not having had lost those BTC that I had tried to send from a legacy segwit to a segwit with bech 32 address.. whatever the fuck that means? #justsaying)...

Not sure what wallet you have used. But, Most Non-Custodial wallets have RBF features. You should be able to Spend unconfirmed transactions utilizing this feature instead of waiting for four days. Make sure to use more transaction fees. Blockchair.com should help you to figure out the average transaction fees.

This involved an attempt to send from an exchange to a self-custodial wallet, and I am not sure what kind of circumstances might have happened if I had been sending between two self-custodial wallets as you are considering might have been what I was mentioning as my situation.  

Of course, when I inquired from the exchange about what had happened with my transaction and what was the status of it, they had provided me an automated explanation that allowed me to identify and to fix the situation from their end (and part of the reason that it took 4 days to resolve was because it took 4 days for them to respond to my inquiry), and at the same time their automated response seemed to not be exactly sure of the specifics that I had described in my inquiry and therefore mentioned that the situation might have been more difficult to resolve if there might have been some mistake on my end that would have caused the transaction to have had gone out of their wallet.. which ended up not being the case, and their wallet (whatever the fuck they were using), just failed/refused to process the transaction at all, which was good for me. and I was able to cancel the transaction within their system and to reinitiate the transaction in a more proper (acceptable way).. and viola.. no BTC's were lost (and no babies died, either... as far as I know).
