All of this must be looked for handling. There should be a regulation that regulates bitcoin so that later each user can account for what they do. But I think there must be a very careful thought, because we know that today bitcoin is anonymous so anything done will be difficult to trace. For now everything looks hard to do.

i doubt it.
criminal activities were happening even before bitcoin. for example the ransomware that everyone is talking about these days have been around a very long time before bitcoin was created!

and besides since bitcoin doesn't offer real anonymity it can not really help the criminals as much as things like hard cash helps them.

Completely agree. They are just trying to blame bitcoin because it is a technology they still don't understand and don't know how to cope with it.

I disagree even though I love bitcoin.

Bitcoin is definitely going to offer new incentive for people to start selling illegal things because it is way cheaper now and more secure for them to transact with bitcoin. This was something that can't be done before. And they know that their savings in bitcoins are safe as opposed to liberty reserve because it can't just get seized by a government like LR.

Bitcoin has its advantages and disadvantages, fueling the criminal economy is one disadvantage. But it's no different to cash, so it's really no use blaming bitcoin for it.
Bitcoin  is using worldwide level society is fixed for it to use bitcoin everyone can reuse but equally use Bitcoin without any hesitation but criminalityic is a very serious issue today so we can not regret that a lot of illegal criminality is done through Bitcoin because it's really easy for the action to create any Bitcoin wallet a lot of funds have been send through Bitcoin and it's really hard and tough to track them because Bitcoin never leak any code of any user it's as secret as you want so I guess they the organisers should something these in future.

Ransomware virus only utilizes digital payment technology to extort the victim. And Bitcoin is an option used to carry out his crimes.
The opposite happens, bitcoin becomes more popular. And the world community became aware of the existence of digital currency (bitcoin).
It depends on who owns Bitcoin, used for crime or otherwise. All can happen.

If you are not doing anything illegal with your transactions, there's no need to worry. Even if its regulated, others would still find ways to make illegal transactions. There are many ways in which one can get away with such deeds, and it is not limited to bitcoin and other digital currencies. If anything, most illegal transactions are done using fiat and the government are still finding a hard time solving these crimes even if the money used is regulated.

Which currency is used most to buy drugs, arms and used most to finance terrorism? Its definitely USD. Can you blame fire and stop using it because few days back it took many peoples life in west London? If criminal finds anything useful they will use it, they will be very quick to adopt useful new technology. Do you think terrorist and criminals aren't using Internet? Everyone knows how ISIS is using internet to spread their propaganda.

https://www.deepdotweb.com/2016/01/23/bitcoin-playing-an-increased-role-in-crime-europol-says/

Would you believe that the existence of bitcoin has increased the number of criminality in  some countries in the world. This is the issue that was being thrown by the EuroPol and the UK Metropolitan Police. According to them bitcoin has played a huge role on the increasing criminality in their area. They added that a huge number of cybercriminals were using bitcoins in their activities.

This just shows that as bitcoin develops both advantages and disadvantages will tag along.

We must admit the fact that if bitcoin is user-friendly and better than fiat system then the benefits are not only limited to the legal users but also to the illegal users (those who are involved in illegal activities). In the coming future, we must address this issue in order to maintain the goodwill of the bitcoin. The governments will have a concrete reason to put the ban on using bitcoins under the sun and it will badly affect the (the users who are using it for normal/legal activities).

What??? Come one you can't blame Bitcoin for all of the criminal activity. Many other factors would have affected the number of crime. I mean how could Bitcoin have affected all of these crimes? It is not plausible. But you must remember that even good things can be abused for a crime.

I think anything that gives you more freedom and control, always gives more room for abuse. I love the potential of what bitcoin enables and the open free market we can trade in, i feel like it is something special.

Maybe the question we should ask is, why do criminals feel the need to commit crime in the first place? Obviously crime will always exist, but I think sometimes crime can be a sign of a system that is not compatable with everyone.

We are born into a system. This system has many rules and laws in place that we did not agree to, they are there from the moment we are born, some of these rules and laws might make any of us feel uncomfortable. Sometimes i think the system is so incompatible with certain peoples personalities, that they want to 'get back' at society.. or 'stick it to the man'.

Ofcourse, there are some that will always commit crime no matter what, it is in their DNA to rob steal and pillage, and there are probably not many changes we can make to Bitcoin to push away these types of people.. because if they were not doing something dodgy with Bitcoin and laundering money with Bitcoin, they would be robbing their 'friends' or robbing a jewelry store or whatever else, and they are probably doing all those things at once anyway.

You might say that Bitcoin has brought out the more curious side in some people that might have never committed crime before, and I say no doubt, but I would also say.. maybe this is part of the evolutionary process of this digital technology, a curiosity boom.

We have people buying drugs on darknet markets for example ,because they can, and want to try it. Not all of them are crinimals, some of them are curious or want to 'try it out' some of them might need medication for a sick family member that they could have never gotten without this increased freedom, and yes, some of them are just looking to get high.. but the fact of the matter is this.. this world is evolving and changing, and it is up to the system to evolve and change along with it.

I like that we have our own little world and community outside of the system, so I am willing to accept the negatives that come along with it.

That is the excuse they will try to use, but it is going to fail if the will of the people wants bitcoin, just look at marijuana it is illegal but slowly the will of the people is changing the laws in several states and countries and the same is going to happen with bitcoin.

LOVE THE CHOICE OF TOPIC!  Governments, bank, institutions, treasuries and pretty much anyone else threatened by the upcoming of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies alike will do all that they can to publicise the "criminal activity" behind bitcoin. I saw a new feed just a few day ago "MAN ROBBED FOR LIKE $1500USD IN BTC" < people are robbed everyday for sums of money that are far more considerable than that.

My point, threatened institutions at this stage will do anything that they can in order to leave a bad taste in people mouths when they hear the word bitcoin.

Except its also true that bitcoin makes it MUCH easier to rob people and get away with it. In other circumstances there is always a trail whereas if you use a mixer with bitcoin no one will ever be able to trace a theft directly to you.

Criminality have existed before bitcoin was created because many people specially those who are not contented of what they have or those who are just attention seeker that use criminality as a way to get attention from the government. Ever since the technology innovation, many cases related in using technology in criminality has been listed. Bitcoin may be involved in that manner but it doesn't mean that it tolerates criminality because we all know that people make such things to happen not the modern tech.

Bitcoin is like anything else. It can be used for good or bad. Blaming something is just an excuse and looking for a place to blame.
Some industries and companies might find Bitcoin a threat to them too. So perhaps they spread propaganda to bring Bitcoin down. It doesn't seem to be working though.  Tongue

I think all the major exchanges are taking these things seriously ,as they are strict about KYC and other verification and with the new regulations coming out ,i am pretty sure that it will be a mandatory to provide your identity if you are dealing with bitcoin and the biggest problem will be the privacy becomes a big factor as your assets will be known by the government.

Not wrong... Criminality and Money laundering exist in every part of our daily lives. This means it's normal happening in bitcoin community and transfers as well.

In terms of pornography yes i must say that bitcoin is one of the major reason why this is getting bigger on the market especially the child pornography which is an obvious crime

Even without bitcoin, crime has been with the society since the beginning. It just that the criminals found a way for them to commit crimes more convenient by using bitcoin. They are using it as a mode of payments on their criminal services and by selling illegal things and bitcoin is their mode of payment.
How do you know about paying bitcoins for their illegal transactions? Do you know someone who does it for their illegal transactions? Is it really possible today that they can use bitcoin for their illegal doings? I don't think this is right; you give people some ideas to so illegal doings using bitcoins. It will be not a good reputation for bitcoin if it's possible to do.

There is already criminals that are using bitcoin to pay things or services that has been done by illegal process. Bitcoin has anonymity and that is one of the advantage and also disadvantage and it is just depending in the situation like here, it is an disadvantage because a lot of criminals are taking advantage of it to use in transacting illegal things.
