Is anyone buying 1080Ti for mining only?

To me that doesn't make sense as there are cards that offer more mhs per $ invested.  I guess you are buying 1080Ti for gaming and mine when you can?

On the assumption you could get a 1080 for 450, i'd agree

But can you?

That's what I paid for my one and only 1080

i don't think you've done the math

ya haha i think your missing some factors, as 1080ti will win if your LONG, everytime Cheesy

sure you can get better "hash per watt" but you will fill a WAREHOUSE to have the same hashpower as a 1080ti army Smiley
you will build x3 as many rigs to equal your farms capacity in hashpower if you use 1070's
you will max out your location and/or end up paying for space using 1070 over 1080ti
put THAT into your $$ calculations ;p

another factor: soloing

You CANT really solo on a 1070 rig for too long, you dont have enough hash :/  but you CAN on a 1080ti rig, i do on SIGT and have made a KILLING still today, no 1070 rigs can still solo at this point (unless 10+ cards)
my 1070 rigs mine inna pool ;p

1070's WERE king, but times change man, especially since 1070 prices are STUPID now (i paid 400USD for my 1070's brand new form newegg, they are WAY higher now)

No have not done math, but it sounds like 1080Ti mining is legit. Wow.

Wonder how Vega Rx will change the game.. I'm hearing 70 mhs from $400 cards

1080Ti are very promising i have 3 1080Tis coming from newegg for a rig not sure if i will buy another one to add it to the rig the only constraint i have is that the rig has 1000watts psu even with 70% TDP i am not sure if i want to draw 4 1080ti cards on that power supply will test it out with 3 cards see what the load is like if its around 600 or so i will add 4th.

o hey! funny you say that! i had the SAME situation, here's how it went:

x4 1080ti will NOT even BOOT windows 10 , it just kills the PSU, powers off. (1000 watt G2 GOLD), i HAD to move to a bigger PSU (i put on a 1600 watt Hercules)
i was able to ADD another 1080ti once i had the 1600 watt PSU, and after tuning, it only pulls 995 watts for all 5 now
I assume it needs to pull some full draw on boot maybe?
Please let me know if you get 1000 watt PSU to boot x4 1080ti (one of mine was a zotac they are 320 TDP, more than a usual 1080ti)

That was a quick reply funny thing I have the same 1000watt G2 EVGA gold...lol... glad i posted saved me the hassle of buying 4th 1080ti and than scrambling to find a space for it. Now i know i made the right decision for only buying 3 gTX 1080ti.

Thank you thank you thank you... you inadvertently saved me a lot of hassle

Just found it on github , +20mh/s more now 😊  thanks dude !

Which one are you using?

I'm using one of Paglins and I get 48 MH/s

Did you get 20% more on top fo that, or a lower value?
i have 40+ ( cant remember i was sleepy ) with 70%, and stock mem & clock.
Before, i was 35 max , even at 100 % power.
For the moment , i dont wanno O/C or tweak, even if that card was free for me

Mine is 43-44mh/s at 80% PL, founder edition 1080ti, ccminer version 1. Version 1.1 and paglins version doesn't seem to increase hash rate for me. It's one of the rare times I think is worth to overclock your gpus given the current earnings.

But i'm running 5 1080ti on 1200W psu, so I can't  Sad

For the 1070/1080/1080ti question, if space is no issue for you, and you can get 1070s for reasonable price, like $370, 1070s still win out imo.

Since 1070 is 50% of 1080ti for compute bound algo (Skein, SIGT)
65% of 1080ti for Equihash
80% of 1080ti for Ethash

Extra maintenance is also not a problem for big farms as they have employees, and at their scale, extra warehouse space is cheap. Note that you'll have twice the hassle and shipping costs when selling cards too for 1070s.

Well, during huge eth growth 38mhs eth + 1200 sia was not bad also ))

Wow! Great numbers!!!
Could you please share make, model and configuration.
Is ETH solo speed even faster?

Cheers.

-Space IS an issue for most
- 1070's havent been found for over 2 MONTHS at 370$, whaaaaa?
-"extra employees to do that" -- costs $$$
- "extra warehouse space is cheap" maybe if your ALREADY have a wearhouse Cheesy

i admit it's situational, but i dont see the validity in 1070's for the average miner buying TODAY :/ they bring in what now, 3$ a day per? :/

Just started following this post last night.... Switched over to SIGT.

Starting to think I missed the SIGT boat... Using CCMiner-Skunk 2.2 with 8x 1080ti's (2 rigs) I am only getting around 130Mh/s on each rig.

Looking at my stats on Yiimp I am getting about half of what "What to mine" has me listed at on that hash rate.

From what I see I am basically making what I would with the rigs pointed toward Zec?

I'm looking to buy 1080 or 1080ti from EVGA. I really like this company. Does anybody here mine on these cards? Is the performance good vs other brands?

EVGA are nice but their upper tiers tend to not come cheap

Their black and sc2 i believe are the reasonably priced ones, on reference pcb too i think, the ftw (premium line) and maybe some newer ones i never see on sale. The FTW is the only ones i would buy beyond the founders edition

Be sure to check what power pins it takes. I bought some with 8/8's, huge mistake messed up my plans. Cost me some money and labor to fix

All comes down to money and noise IMO

Thanks a lot for your answer! I want EVGA because of worldwide warranty (I'm in Russia and if I will order cheaper cards from Europe, I think they won't be covered by local warranty). I'll take a look at FTW models Smiley

better late than never.
if you want you can also buy the coin directly instead.

one of the reason you get lesser coin is because as time passes, more and more miners are adding to the hash rate, increasing the difficulty. in example you just added to the total hash rate just now.

another thing is if I understand correctly, you are only getting 16.25mh/s per 1080 ti card? if yes, there's a problem on your setup as I'm getting 50mh/s per 1080 ti card of mine.

No I am getting around 33Mh/s on each card.  The rigs are set up with 4x 1080ti's in each rig.  What miner are you using to get 50Mh/s?

Been mining with Nemos lately. You guys should check out SniffDog, it's optimised for 1080 Ti.

Do you use PCIe 1x - 16x raisers? Or you slot them in right on the mobo on your 1080ti rings? I had a rig with 4 x 7990 few years ago with 1x to 16x riser had two gpus die on me, bit paranoid if maybe the risers were at fault but probably just heat and overuse. Planning to build a rig with 1080tis now got two platinum 1350w psus that still run like a charm maybe I can load 7 or 8 of these bad boys with risers or maybe just slot 3 or 4 right in the mobo and have two rigs.

Palgin's modified ccminer (which is free) will do 45+ hashrate @ 80% power... spmod (costs $ to buy) will do 50+ reportedly on a GTX 1080 Ti.
