More detailed information about what happened to the BTC-e service.

On July 25, 11:00 the FBI staff came to the data center where our server equipment was located and seized all equipment, the servers contained databases and purses of our service.

Almost for 6 days we could not get from our hosting provider the sane information, what happened to our servers because of this information we publish only now.

July 28, the domain was confiscated.

To date, part of the service facility was arrested by the FBI

The next update will include information on what options are available to restore the service, and also the procedure for obtaining funds, in the event that the service is not started. In the current situation, if the service is not started before the end of August, then from September 1 we will start the process of refund.
In the next 1-2 weeks, we will evaluate and publish information about how much money fell into the hands of the FBI and what amount of funds is available for return.

For all those who buried us, I will remind you that the service has always worked on trust and we are ready to answer for it.

Well, I'm happy that they finally said something, and their words -- particularly coming from Russians -- are encouraging. I'm still trying not to get my hopes up. They haven't "come through" ... they hopefully will. But I've also seen a lot of bitcoin services collapse, and they always say they are coming back before they disappear. I'm not trying to be a downer; just trying not to hype the expectations at this point. I lost a shitload of money on BTC-E and I was just starting to come to terms with it...

BTC-e was the most reliable exchange with the best running track record and the one I trusted most far above all others.  The record also shows that BTC-e has acted with integrity when its service was compromised and it restored customers' funds (the 2012 incident).  Just because there might be a few rotten apples on the site doesn't make it even remotely acceptable to take everyone else's money (and life savings mind you).  I really hope BTC-e pulls through this.

We don't know that most was seized by the FBI. Just servers with database and access to "purses." One would hope those keys are encrypted in which case, seizure doesn't necessarily mean anything. And we should only be talking about client wallets and hot wallets, not cold storage, in theory.
