I must say that I have to agree with the Op. All of these forks seem to be an attack on the unity of the community. Ultimately this is ALL cryptocurrencies have. They are not backed by a government or an economy, they are simply the community that uses them and the value of trust that all participants have in using the system.

If BTC continues to fork it WILL die.

I see a lot of optimism about bitcoin, which is understandable seeing the price recently.
But I have to admit I'm a little worried about the long term future of btc.
The major problems if the currency still haven't been dealt with. I see 2 major ones:

-Block size. Which makes the delay and fees of transaction rise very fast. Smaller transactions are more and more difficult to make.
-The centralization of the market. China got low cost electricity, which make them by far the most bitcoin mining capable.
-And maybe others that I'm not aware of.

Another thing: The Hard forks that are oddly getting much more frequent than before. (BCH, BTG, Segwitx2 etc...) It almost looks like "attacks" in order to divide us. Now called "airdrops" by the community. Even though they're supposed to solve some of the problems.

All in all, this makes me really worried about btc future. I've been a strong holder since 2014, and I made quite a lot of money with bitcoins, but I begin to doubt now, even though the price is crushing ATM. Please help me keeping faith. Or should I switch to another currency ? Really thinking about ETH recently.
If bitcoin does not survive I do not see any other currency taking bitcoin place, so if you want to get out of bitcoin I will suggest to get out of cryptocurrencies completely, and about the hard forks it is very obvious the forks are not being created to solve anything, it is just an attempt to make money with bitcoin’s name and at the same time to attack bitcoin and see if people fall and accept one of these awful coins as the new dominant coin.
If bitcoin does not exist then all altcoin or cryptcurrency will also vanish in my opinion. Because most altcoin is based on Bitcoin. Some cryptocurrency life is dependent on the survival of bitcoin.
I also agree most altcoin is based on Bitcoin but they play different roles. BTC is the gateway from fiat into digital currency. Cryptocurrency coins can make our daily lives easier, they can change the way we live and help the future of this world economy. Don't worry about bitcoin and altcoin.  If something exists , it is present in the world as a real thing.

Why worrying about it's future? We can't predict it's future mate. The future of bitcoin is uncertain. Just enjoy them while it's still exist. Don't bother worry about what will happen to bitcoin in the future. That's why theres a hardfork. Developers will fix and add what factors might be missing in able to develop bitcoin. There's always a way. Even if bitcoin die, people can still be able to create and develop another one over time. Bitcoin is just on it's beginning. Just buy as much as you can.

Bitcoin is unstoppable. The only thing that could kill Bitcoin is to ban this technology globally or shut the internet forever(which is impossible). Anyway, you're wrong about China. Bitcoin can stand alone without China. Japan can take over. Japan right now is focusing on mining. So don't worry.

I 100% agree with you. I see that more and more Government start to accept and regulate Cryptocurrency as a kind of fiat currency such as South Korea tax income Bitcoin, Russia release CryptoRuble and so on. I believe that we should continue to invest in Bitcoin.  Grin

So far, the future of Bitcoin looks very bright as more people, businesses and governments recognize it, BUT yes, something can always happen that'll negatively impact BTC, like a war or recession, etc. This s why it's always a good idea not to put all your eggs in one basket. Don't invest too much money in BTC.

Nothing to fear or worry about the future of bitcoin. All that's happening with bitcoin is positive and till date haven't shown any signs of destruction. If it is towards the end, now the entire technology advancement should have come to an end without new usage implementation.

Well there are many people who are always ready to give bad names to bitcoin whenever they can and spread FUD news about it. I have been in the crypto market for sometime now and I believe that bitcoin has the capability to grow and be even bigger gradually. However this needs time and those traders who have that patience can see the effect - because of the forks the market dominance of bitcoin grows and the people are investing in it as well. If you feel you are not willing to invest then dont but in future bitcoin will be an emerging economy.

I'm not really worried about those problems, and I don't even see as problems, some of the things you've listed.

First I don't see why we should get bigger block sizes right now. You already have bcash for that, and as you can see people are not really turning to it as a solution and prefer to stick with bitcoin. I'm confidant that the LN will solve those issues, and both fees and transaction times will be minimal after it gets implemented. Bitcoin should be able to compete with visa, mastercard, paypal, etc, and with really low fees. No other method of payment or "currency" will really be able to compete with it.

As for the hard forks, why are they such a problem? Ethereum is on it's 5th hard fork if I'm not mistaken, and will have at least another one, and it doesn't seem to be worrying them. Not saying I agree with these forks, but they should not be a problem if they are done well. For instance the community is really not approving the segwit2x fork, because it's not being handle properly, and we are already seeing mining pools and exchanges withdrawing their support. If things continue like this, the fork might not even happen, so the community if proving that is able to handle these forks, if they pose to be a threat to the network.

I think bitcoin has a great future right now, and I don't any reasons for you to be worried right now.

I am not worried to the bitcoin because I know that bitcoin has a great future. Many people like me are believing to the bitcoin. If we exert a effort to the bitcoin, probably we can earn many money.

Bitcoin is just the first cryptocurrency that became very popular. There are tons of other now. Many of them have their own technology that is better than Bitcoin. It is only a matter of time until another much more developed crypto comes along and outshines Bitcoin and takes it over. It could even be Ethereum. ETH is an amazing development and allows for so much more than Bitcoin does.

I think the community is strong enough and passionate enough about Bitcoin to ensure its survival. Although there is some uncertainty at present I trust the wisdom of crowds - especially knowing that people have skin in the game.

Bitcoin is the king of cryptocurrencies and it will always remain the same in future also.despite of launching of differnt hard forks people prefer BTC as they trust in it.If take a look back we notice that bitcoin value has grown 10-15 times the value of other currencies.I suggest not to switch to ETH because its price is $322 and at the same time BTC price is $5500 and it will grow in future so have faith in BTC and make it more popular.

Transaction fees and times are known issues of BTC, nothing new, and that is why as you say BTC is constantly 'under attack' by BCH BTG etc etc. However those attacks make BTC stronger when they fail and anyway if one of those new coins will ever replace BTC, all you have to do is keeping your BTC on your wallet and same with the new tokens.
ETH is a completely different thing and not as strong as BTC.

I agree to some extent with your concerns about bitcoin. But as you pointed out, the core issues are nowhere to be solved any time soon, I guess with its value going high, the smallest transactions are gonna keep on harder by day. So maybe there is a place for some of the alts for that, and bitcoin in the end may remain for the elite to use.

I think that you should guys doesn't need to worry for the future of bitcoin because the future of bitcoin is already bright and it is not stoppable because bitcoin can become one of the best cryptocurrency or currency in the future because as you can see that the price of bitcoin is going up and that is a great indication that bitcoin is having a good progress.

No! There is nothing to worry about bitcoins future because I believe that bitcoin will exist in the market and still continue its journey. Doing great and creating a remarkable history in this generation, even another hardfork is coming but it could still stand for it.

I do no think that there is any reason to worry about bitcoin future. In fact bitcoin is still very new and less than 2% of the totally population know about bitcoin, but now the popularity of bitcoin is spreading too fast and therefore more people are entering in the world of bitcoin. So we can expect that the future of bitcoin is too much secure and bright. I think it is a good opportunity to invest money in bitcoin and get a good profit in near future. I myself have invested a good amount of money in bitcoin and still going to invest more.
