Given the trend at the beginning of the year up to now, some altcoins have a good run and many become millionaires because of that run. In ethereum perhaps, price at the beginning of the year is around $8 while now, it is almost $500. Litecoin has a price of around $4 and even reach $100 few days ago that's why if you invested in alts that has solid foundation and feasible projects then it will have a good future. No, its not that hard to choose the best altcoin.  The best altcoins are those which are old and proven themselves in the past and in the present. The  example can be Ethereum, litecoin, Ripple and even dogecoin. None of these coin is going to vanish in 3 years time. Rather these alts will really be rising in next years as we are moving towards the real digital world, the importance of these coin will be more significant.

Not trying to tongue lash any Alt, but truth can be bitter sometimes but it does not mean we cannot say it. There are some coins that should not even be looked at when considering investing. Personally, I would not even bother holding a coin like XRP, (you can scold me if you want), but considering the fact that it is a centralized coin and that is one coin that can burst anytime, I would rather just be doing my short trading on it.
I only picked on this because I had to lay some emphasis, XRP is not a shitcoin but for me, I do not like it. You should look out for undervalued coins with very good projects to back them up, those are the kind of coins that would end up being useful and also stand the test of time in the long run.
