I think this is an eye-opener for anyone who is using either online wallet and hardware wallet. We must always keep in mind that we need to backup everything. keep multiple backups of it and also, always do safety precautions when using your wallets because hacking is very rampant everywhere. That is very unfortunate to lose 103 bitcoin tho. Let's hope he still can save his bitcoins.

This guy has lost 103 bitcoins he mined back in 2011 and then lost his wallet dat file similar to what I have done but wow this guy must be gutted the amount of money he has lost compared to me

His Address    166BuLPWHUjqoqiYp5rGE3B5r5AmqgHpoL    Final Balance   103.20832384 BTC

So many people have the same problem and I wonder just how much Bitcoin is stuck not being able to be used Sad

He says "I used to mine Bitcoin back in 2011 and I lost my wallet.dat file (through several stupid moves on my part). It's got approx 103 BTC in it, anyone is welcome to it, I've given up trying."

That's a lot of bitcoin considered its value and how sloppy he was to lose all of it. Have he not had any secure ways or some kind of encrypted apps to protect his wallet?

There are thousands of bitcoin which were lost like this and every day there is someone who just find his password and take the amount that he had holding for such a long time, it cannot be counted how much bitcoin are stacked but this amount is for sure very huge.

There is nothing more anyone can do to access the fund. The blockchain has taken that one. So sorry for your loss. That is one issue with bitcoin once you lost your keys it will be lost forever. There is no need to try randomly whether you can guess the keys, you can try for the next 10yrs.

lol in 2009 even I also mined BTC from my university desktop and it still belongs to the university. as I remember I had some considerable amount of BTCs in my wallet those days. after we all forgot BTC for several years and yes the wallet passwords too:/, not worrying about something which we can be never seen in our entire life again.  Undecided Undecided Undecided

ask him to forget all the incidents and restart what he was doing... no worries pal  Roll Eyes Tongue

I already check the address and yes he had 103 bitcoins sadly that he lost that file to restore his bitcoins. But is there other way to take it back? 103 bitcoins will be a millionaire now. If I have skills to do it I would do but sadly don't have any idea about that.

Um, this is a very ridiculous situation. I wonder if you can contact the developers? Although I don't even know how to do it. Very sorry for the guy.

I know how vexed this guy is. To understand that you are potentially rich, but have no access to your wealth. Hopefully it will solve this problem and be able to recover your bitcoins.

This guy is not to be envied. It's a shame to lose such money. Especially if you can't get them back. I haven't heard any stories yet so someone can recover lost keys. Unfortunately.

I'm sure that he's not the only who did mine or bought a lot of dirtcheap bitcoins back in 2011 and then forgot the file to access it. I know this is strange but this is a usual thing to happen because of the fact that not all of them took bitcoin seriously and expect to go big like what it is now today.

if I make it I will be devastated ... how much bitcoin can it do, and if that is the current time ... because it is already well known ... but if it was in the past when bitcoin didn't mean that to me it only caused a little regret

I'm really just sad though to see someone lose a lot of money because they don't believe that bitcoin will skyrocket, we have to really protect every detail of our wallet so we can enjoy the results of our hard work.

I honestly pity the person when I hear this news,
This might be useful if distributed to the mining forum to be careful and stay alert with the mining wallet address,
I suggest to keep it in the safest place, I still remember when in 2011 mining bitcoin was still fast and easy,

What a sad story that guy must be very sad. The value bitcoin in 2011 is so small but right now the price is fantastic. Is there any solution for that man problem?  I hope he can get his bitcoin back. Lips sealed Lips sealed

Wew! This is really one sad story to hear.  It's more heart breaking than the scene of Titanic sinking (I guess).

Imagine the value a 103 bitcoin holds (especially December last year when it rose to USD 19,000 a piece).  The guy must have been pretty devastated.

But this is the reality of a lost wallet in return for stronger security.  That is why it has been overly stressed to never lose your details relating to your wallet access. That is why one should never be careless of these wallet-related information.  Keep a local or online copy whenever possible. Better yet, write it down somewhere safe and hold dearly on to that.

Hoping the guy you are talking about learn from his mistakes.

It is so sad to see someone lose this much. This is clearly one of the downsides of decentralized systems. The blockchain can be very good but once your details e.g passkey are lost, you can't retrieve it, meaning you lost your entire assets. I feel so sorry for this guy. I'm sure he didn't think the Bitcoin will surge in value this soon. People should learn from him by securing their details
