I have the first beta version for 1.5 ready. I'll put up the full change log on github in the next day or so.

https://github.com/Tranz5/HoboNickels/releases/tag/1.4.7.0

Although I have had no issues, I do highly suggest you take the time (after you shutdown the client) to backup your wallet(s).dat, blk0001.dat and  database/txleveldb directories, before starting up the new client.

Please let me know if you see anything odd or have any issues.

Enjoy!

Great Job. No issues.
Thank you!

Second Beta release of 1.5 is ready.

Most of this dealt with the Block Browser.  It needed a major work over.

The code has been cleaned up and is now working with both PoW and PoS. The transaction page will now allow right click into the browser.

https://github.com/Tranz5/HoboNickels/releases/tag/1.4.8.0

Please let me know if there are any issues.

Thanks!

Installed 1.5 beta 2 today. Looks good so far! (no issues).

The network tab with the block explorer is really cool. Also like the new info screens (block/node/stake). The block explorer currently supports block and txid lookup. Are there plans to enable address lookup in the future?

Stake for charity UI is another great addition. I noticed the icons for 'send' and 'charity' are the same which can be slightly confusing but no biggie. I've set it to donate 10% to F1TranzWqFGZyFeTMu6iLbtTQgdXuJPsiL this month as a way to show my appreciation and support the dev :)

Thanks for the feedback and donations. Not necessary at all but thank you. That wallet has S4C running for Songs for Love so that will help support them as well.

The info screens were available in 1.4 you just had to click the icons in the bottom right.

Changing the S4C icon is in the works for final 1.5.

I do have other plans for the block browser, including Address look-up. But for version 1.5 this is probably about it.

Just realized I missed a commit for walletdb.cpp. Just one line but an important one.

https://github.com/Tranz5/HoboNickels/commit/e5cdb6d284fb86350f9185b3b14f79c9bc16028d

It turns on the S4C after starting up the client.

So you can re-grab the version here : https://github.com/Tranz5/HoboNickels/releases/tag/1.4.8.0 which is fixed.

Or you can just hit enable on the S4C page after it loads up and that will start it going.

Thanks!

Also installed 1.4.8.0. Just copied the executable and everything seems to work just fine straight away.  Impressive.
One question about the change generated by S4C: does that go to the custom change address or is it still a newly generated address?

Question for everyone.

I am going to be making a choice about IRC. There are 2 options that I see.

#1 Remove it completely from the code. It is already disabled and will only use IRC if the users forces it with -irc=1.
#2 Or we can also keep it in there and I can add to it, so it will connect to a IRC channel and allow users to chat with each other. The wallet will not use it to look for peers though.

Do we remove and forget about IRC, or keep it and expand it's usage?

My personal opinion is to lose it. As I don't think the wallet needs the extra bloat(code wise) and it could open up an additional security concerns.

However it is probably mostly safe and could be a fun addition to have.

So I'll let you all decide.  Let me know.

Thanks!

At this time it is still pulled from reserve in the wallet. I do have this on my list to look at. So it may still make it into the final 1.5 version.

I think you should disable IRC. I see it as a security hole. Smiley

I'm for having as basic a wallet as possible. No reason to have text chat, VoIP, video chat, and all this crazy stuff wallets are trying to do nowadays. Since a lot of these high PoS coins have pretty quiet communities, I'd recommend they all band together into a single high PoS channel, say #crazysteak or #posinvestors or something.

Good feedback. I am pretty much feeling the same way.

Is there anyone that wants it?  Speak now or forever hold your peace!

What about other features? Like market data, or watch only addresses, or other things. Are these something we want to try to get integrated?

What would be the descriptions of watch only addresses or "other things?" Market data seems interesting, but a lot of places already do that.

Things like integrated block-explorer seem popular, but since these only review the blocks downloaded by the wallet, it doesn't necessarily help to see if you're on a fork. Before I move large blocks off exchanges, I always like the check my current block hash against an explorer (like say CAP and HBN's on cryptocoinexplorer, which is really nice since it seems to be updated versus the old explorer).

Same as others, no need for fancy stuff on a wallet.
People that want to use irc can use many already existing tools like xchat, mirc, mibbit etc if they really want to.

Only a strong and stable wallet is needed. Less cpu/ram he use, better it is Smiley

Btw, will it be possible to get rpc commands to get info about "our weight", "network weight", "% chance of producing a stake within xx hours" ? Smiley

Watch only means you can put in another address to which you do not have the private key, and watch how coins come in and out of that address. You can't spend them, but just watch the action.

Market data could be used to tag the coin at time of mining, reciving, or spending. This way you could know exactly what the value is at the time.

True about the integrated block browser.  It maybe possible to create a "verified" version by going against the CCE API for example.  Plus this will give you historical hash rate/netweight by block number.

Lower mem/cpu is ideal. I have plans to lower CPU, but lower memory usage is still a bit off. Perhaps version 1.6 or 1.7.

getmininginfo will give you all the information you request except % chance.  I can add that..

Probably best to keep things simple. Bells and whistles introduce overhead and can cause unexpected issues.

otoh, I don't mind if HoboNickels-Qt is feature rich as long as hobonickelsd remains lean.

Having a trollbox integrated in a wallet would certainly set HoboNickels apart from the rest and might be a great way to build an active community. (I imagine most people that download the wallet won't discover this thread).  Of course, it might also open the doors to IRC phishing bots preying on users right inside of the wallet. That might be somewhat undesirable Smiley
