nothing against piuk and blockchain.info but all of you should consider Armory with totally secure offline wallets and one time paper backups with a deterministic wallet. all the bugs that i could find have been worked out and i'm using it primarily now with multiple wallet interfaces.
I will, when it's standalone, currently it is really annoying to have to run the official client and armory together to make use of it, also it eats away all my memory, so no thanks i'll wait a bit til it's developed more  It runs fine with 1.5G RAM now in Windows 7. I just keep both Satoshi and Armory wallets open all the time on my laptop and i suffer no performance issues. Well, that's good news. Last I heard (I hadn't been keeping too close an eye on the threads) it required, IIRC, around 4MB of RAM. Time to give it a shot. Offline transactions, here we come. due to RAM reduction, he's gotten the requirement down to 1.5 G for Windows and 512K for Linux installs. It's certainly a nice, helpful change. (And looking back at that, I meant 4GB instead of 4MB. Wow, am I showing my age or what?) |

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

What format does blockchain.info use when you export an unencrypted paper wallet?
Trying to import my private keys into strong coin it says "Error: Not a valid Private Key, We support the following key format: Hex, Mini Key and Sipa Import Format."
Edit: It's base58, not sure why strongcoin doesn't support it..

Hello,
So I was just wondering when the site is restored my wallets will still be there correct? Also I have backed up my wallets but a few days before the site went down. Now I noticed that when I would log into my wallet online that there were a few addresses missing and that I had to create new addresses. I never backed those new addresses up. Basically I have used those to play the bitlotto and want to know that I will still have access to those addresses when the site is restored. Please tell me yes because if not it would be a shame to win the lottery and not have access to those addresses.
First time getting scammed? Don't get your hopes up for your bitcoins m8.... |

Hmm, I didn't follow Armory development lately but to me the biggest advantage of the piuks online wallet is that I can access it from eveywhere I want - either via web or using the smartphone app. when i see a statement like this it makes me think that you want the convenience of accessing the wallet from any computer you happen to be around. the problem is that if you can access it this way then so can someone else. and you can never be sure of the security of the computer you use from keyloggers. i carry my laptop around with me pretty much everywhere i go with Armory and Satoshi loaded so i never have access issues. Eto is also going to be writing an smartphone version of Armory in the future. |

i guess i should have been more clear. i carry the Watching Only wallets around on my laptop along with a small amount of spending coins. |

I was wondering if anyone uses the wallet as their "main" wallet to hold more than smaller amounts, and do away with a traditional wallet. I understand the security risks but it looks like the bases are covered very well with multiple forms of authentication, automatic email of backup. Despite the risks I think I would feel pretty secure.
For people that travel frequently or those that don't want to remote into a PC to load up a normal wallet to check a balance this seems ideal.
I bet there are others like myself that are ok with a little downtime here or there and still feel secure about their coins with the backups etc.
Multiple smartphone platforms, website offline mode, I am really amazed, keep up the great work. This could be one of those things that could have a "premium" version with mobile app that you pay $12/yr for. I'm not complaining about free but want to see this continue forward long-term.

I use blockchain as my primary wallet and keep around $100 USD in it. I treat it just like I treat the wallet in my pocket. I use armory for the rest of my funds because it allows me to have a secure offline system. I also have my blockchain.info private keys in armory so I can still move those funds around if blockchain.info is offline. |

Thanks for the feedback, I was waiting for armory to be a standalone client before I take that plunge. With ability to print paper backups from this wallet and all of the other backup/security mechanisms in place I am considering putting "all eggs in this basket so to speak" Has there been any known "lost" transactions with this wallet service? That is the deciding factor for me to utilize it in the highest capacity. The downtime here and there is not a big deal. |
