Is there already a pool for this coin?
Or is it only possible to mine this coin solo?

Pools are linked from www.vertcoin.com

Please follow the advice there and mine at a smaller pool to balance the load.

No, are you using the correct cgminer?

Windows: http://kilovolt.co.uk/Vertcoin/VertCoin-CGMinerCPU-Aleks_N.zip

Linux x64 binary: http://www.sendspace.com/file/yc8eys

Source: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/iu1ieqz2th5kfhj/o_G3gRnGMa/cgminer-vertcoin.tgz

If so, set your thread-concurrency lower than usual, and try dialling down core and memclock if necessary to get stable at first, then work your way back up. Especially thread-concurrency will need to be lower than normal scrypt though.

Thanks, but 'm using the settings of the first posters, Should it be ok?

I lowered thread concurrency a lot (to 4096) and it worked. Thanx!

Yes should be fine. What GPUs, and what hashrate are you achieving?

I'm using a Sapphire R9 280X hashing at 218K at average, Intensity 12, because at 13 it throws too much hardware errors, and doesn't seem to submit shares.

Here's a tested config with this card:

cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://s.la.vertcoin.org:3333 -u metraque.R9280X -p x -v 1 -w 256 -I 12 -g 2 --lookup-gap 2 --gpu-powertune -20 --temp-target 65 --temp-overheat 75 --temp-cutoff 80 --gpu-memclock 1500 --gpu-engine 1000 --thread-concurrency 3072

Be sure to mine to you and not to me.

and BTW

DON'T PUT A .BAT STARTER FILE WITH PREVIOUS STARTERS IN THE SAME FOLDER.

It's because it causes errors due to a .bin file created before running this new version of cgminer, which is incompatible with previous mining .bin files.

Getting 325 with lightning BE and 370 with Matrix P.
Odd, normal scrypt it's both 752 kH/s. Like, dead-on the same.
Using
-g 2
-I 13
-thread-concurrency 8192 ( any higher is nope, unless <11200, but then lightning has single digit hashrates )

Kinda underwhelming actually, especially the lightning  Tongue

Edit: 8191 increased it to 355-385. Still no HW errors and reject rate <1%

Double edit: 4095 increased it to 380-385, hurray! However, HW galore  Angry

Thx Nostras Cheesy

Getting ~330kh/s with the thread concurrency adjustment

the optimum updated settings for my Sapphire R9 280X are

color 02
    setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://s.la.vertcoin.org:3333 -u metraque.R9280X -p x -v 1 -w 256 -I 12 -g 2 --lookup-gap 2 --gpu-powertune -20 --temp-target 65 --temp-overheat 75 --temp-cutoff 80 --gpu-memclock 1500 --gpu-engine 1000 --thread-concurrency 8191

Be sure you're not running more than one instance of cgminer, then change intensty to 13 in the black window. Also be sure to change the pool and credentials to yours.

anyone here is using the windows one? (http://kilovolt.co.uk/Vertcoin/Vertcoin-CGMinerAleks_NR3.zip)

if you try to set the windows one tc to above 4k, it will claim not enough memory and just quit.
if you set below 4k, it will result in all hardware errors.

Tried it with 270x, 280x, different pc same result.
It's just doesn't work.

try to set

setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 200

I am getting a stable 240 kh/s with your configuration and the same gpu ...
Have you done something else ?
Not anything significant that I can think of. I did crash with intensity 20 after a few hours though, switched to I 19 and so far running stable at 300 kh/s. I have Catalyst 13.9 and I'm on Win7.

I was running on catalyst 13.4. I switched to 13.12 with a thread-currency of 20480 and now I have a decent 300 kh/s.
Thank you  Smiley

Strange that you can't connect to the pools, but I do notice you have -u and -p set twice in that command line, maybe that is doing something strange?

You might also find that the work the pools hands out is different difficulty (because of vardiff) than solo-ing, and that this is causing the GPUs to HW or something odd like that. You seem to have a pretty extreme overclock there - try backing it off a bit, or just running stock to ensure you can connect to a pool, then bring the overclock back on by working your way up.

Did you compile from source? If so, it sounds like you didn't have the AMD SDK installed and GPU mining support hasn't been compiled into your binary. Install the AMD SDK and rebuild with:

CFLAGS="-O3 -Wall -march=native -I/opt/AMDAPP/include" LDFLAGS="-L/opt/AMDAPP/lib/x86_64/" ./configure --enable-opencl --enable-scrypt
make

thank you for reply. yeah i did try multiple gpu memclocks and gpu engine. it doesnt work

k nvm. i ran it the same setting again. only this time i removed any additional .bat i had in the folder. i read it somewhere last night that having more then one .bat file in there confuses the mod cgminer

Good to hear you got it fixed - I presume you mean the .bin files cgminer generates?

Yes, modded cgminer for vertcoin should be run in a different folder than regular cgminer, so the bin files from the wrong version don't get picked up.
