WARNING!

Mine VTC at your own risk. Don't mine if you don't have warranty on your GPU.

Last night one of my GPUs started going CRAZY. Fan went to max speed, and in vertminer the temp was 511C.

I read earlier here was another individual who had the same issue who posted on

Quote
A word of warning. I don't know if it's really related, but after mining vertcoin for a few days, 2 of my rigs exhibited a problem. Some of the cards showed 511 C temp and 0 RPM, and then the computer froze. This then happened all the time even after many reboots, after I changed the risers around and changed riser power, it started working again.
2 of my 7950 with this problem, after this, did not hash over 580 KH/s on normal cgminer anymore (previously 620 KH/s steady). One of my 280X now seems to have stability issues and for some reason lower temperature, and auto-fan speed for this card is consistently lower than on all my other cards.

After I got this 511C error. I went straight to my old cgminer with my old config mining the old Doge Coin. After an hour, that exact GPU got the 511 C error. Computer completely frozen. It must of caused some permanent damage.

I wonder if however vertminer uses resources on your card is the reason my R9 270X wouldn't get stable.

Yes this was on one of my R9 270X cards.

This was using cgminer modded for Linux

I actually recall seeing that 511C before, but I don't remember which card it was on. I have actually switched all of my cards back to scrypt for the time being and i'm going to monitor them for issues.

Makes me a little nervous since I'm all in VTC right now.  I wonder how it could damage the equipment, do you think the temperature is getting too high and the fan isn't ramping correctly?  I've had the 511C problem before while mining regular scrypt coins using cgminer 3.7.2 but it didn't permanently damage my card.  It's been awhile but I think I got it working again by rebooting Windows.  It may have been the time I had to disconnect the power, reseat the video card and the pcie power connectors.

I spent a couple hours last night trying to get my ASUS R9 270X HW error free and I could not find a TC setting that worked for it. Considering the lack of temperature and fan controls since i ported it into BAMT, I decided to move that rig back to scrypt for now. I don't know if the issue is with the R9 series cards, that card itself or the fact that I ported it to BAMT, but there's obviously issues and I hope that maybe a vertminer specific bamt version will be made someday.

I'm not having any problems. Vertminer 0.5.3 PowerColor PCS+ R9 270X 2GB GDDR5 TC 9995 I 12 G 1 Gap 2 Stock Clock. Temp stuff working fine. Downclocks/downvolts when it can not meet desired temp. Runs 72C.

The card was not overheating. IT was on -i 12.

It ran 10C lower than my regular doge coin script.

Are you running vertminer within BAMT though or on windows? I was running in BAMT Also, what hashrate are you getting with those settings?

vertminer 0.5.3 on windows 8.1, one thread because the card only has 2 GB. ~160 KH/s ~160 WU. Computer has 8 GB ram. At going rate, ~1 coin per day.

My conf is:

{
"pools" : [
      {
                "url" : "stratum+tcp://mine1.coinmine.pl:6350",
                "user" : "user.user",
                "pass" : "pw"
        }

]
,
"scrypt" : true
}

and my bat is

setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
cgminer --scrypt --intensity 12 -g 1 -w 64 -o stratum+tcp://mine1.coinmine.pl:6350 -u user.user -p pw

I'm using a 6870 but shouldn't I be getting somewhere around 150 k/hs? How do I fix this?

Try this. I'm getting 100Kh/s because I'm running a lower clock (one of my fans is broken).

Only 160 kh/s?? That's like 1/3 of what i get mining scrypt with my 270x. I can't justify putting it on VTC if it takes that big of a hit. My 7950's were almost exactly 50% of their scrypt hashrate with no messing around, 33% is just not going to be worth it. I was able to get as high as 223 kh/s on the 270x but HW errors eventually appeared.

I have conservative settings. I can get higher if I want. In which I do not, $200 is a big investment for me right now. And the noise...
You're welcome to overclock and set to I 13. :-) Besides, it's not all about hashrate...

Yes, it's more about WU as some people say, still, 1/3 the WU from what I was mining in scrypt. My concern is that only conservative settings will be stable in vertminer, compared to more aggressive settings in cgminer for scrypt.

I think he means that you need to consider the price of the coin. I'd get ~$4/day with my 7850 hashing 365kh/s scrypt. I can get $6-7/day mining Vert at 160kh/s. Even if it went down to 120kh/s its still $5/day and better than normal scrypt.

Were you mining LTC before? My numbers showed that VTC made me maybe 12% more than mining scryptcoins. Are you considering the current price per VTC or are you looking at a longer time frame that probably includes when the price was more than 2x what it currently is?

Got my Vertminer (v0.5.3) running stable, but it's far from optimized. Hope to get things running better with some help via this thread. Smiley

Currently running 4x Gigabyte 7950 WindForce 3 REV2.0 (Windows 7 x64, 8GB RAM, Catalyst 12.8 ) @ ~270KH/s each, totalling ~1.100KH/s.

Sapphire 290x (ref) — hynix mem.
...
"gpu-memclock":"1500", //Finally! i've spent two days to raise memclock to this point. Already wrote some posts with this trouble. And solution is — raise it step by step (for me its works), slowly.

Try memclock 1250 (right, lower than stock), you will be surprised. I have Sapphire 290 and with 1250 it's much better than on stock 1300, and a little worse than 1500, but much more stable without voltage manipulation.

Got stable 440kh/s at I:17 and tc:24550.
