Dash is a crypto currency that was created by Evan Duffield in 2014 under the name Darkcoin (before that it was very briefly named Xcoin), with a focus back then on
providing optional anonymity on its transactions (PrivateSend). It is a proof of work (X11) crypto currency, where miners get rewarded for their work in Dash.
Dash is best known for its creation of its masternodes. Numerous other projects have now copied the masternode concept from Dash into their own crypto project.
For 1000 Dash you can setup a masternode and earn passive income / revenue (6,73% on annual base / 1.67 Dash per 8 days).
With regards to blockrewards Dash has made a change in comparison with for example Bitcoin, where 100% of each blockreward goes to miners.
With Dash it is as follows :
45% of each blockreward goes to miners
45% of each blockreward goes to masternodes
10% of each blockreward goes to its decentralized budget system
With a masternode you can vote on budget proposals that benefit Dash.

Lately Dash has been gaining adoption as a fast decentralized low cost transaction-provider in Venezuela. Mainly because of its speed, low cost and and due to grassroot efforts that were deployed
through Dash budget system (by funding meetings, funding a local exchange to create a dash pair, funding a helpdesk and other fundings that helped with the adoption there).
Dash is working on a very large update named Dash Evolution for a few years now that should make adoption far more easy, it should be scheduled for release end of this year (Q4, 2018).
