Hello People of the DRK!

I am very interested with setting up a Master Node at some point in the near future. I currently have about 850 DRK's to my name and I am working feverishly to scrape up funds to acquire 150 more, now at what seem to be a pretty damn good value. However, once I reach 1000 DRK what should my plan of attack be to get a Master Node started? I am not proficient with code and the last thing I want to do is loose any of my 1000 DRK just because of lack of node knowledge. For the average dude, where should I look to make preparations for a safe Master Node setup? I am venturing into relatively new investment territory and I am not in a huge hurry. I just want it to do it right with no mistakes. Any advice will be greeted with open arms. Thank you. Smiley

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

There are several people who will set up an MN for you for a fee (usually 10-15 DRK).

And while the correct versions are there for download it still says RC2 on darkcoin.io
You are absolutely right.
There should be another person better two who has editing access of darkcoin.io and bitcointalk.org thread. So Evan can do the more importand things than these...what doesn't mean they shouldn't have to be up to date.

Darkcoin.io has several issues.  I will have access to edit it directly at some point, right now things are sort of in flux as Evan is consolidating his online properties after the official pool intrusion - as well as dealing with the fallout from that and making sure everyone gets their DRK out.

Incidentally, this is why he hasn't popped up in the past week or so, in case anybody is wondering.  He's been swamped cleaning that up.

Im an average guy and I found setting one up easy. I just followed each step of chaeplins guide for Amazon EC2 servers but every step I googled to work out what its doing.

look here for chaeplin and others guides, just keep asking the guys questions and youll get it set up

No reason to worry about loosing coins with cold wallet. Use the guides on darkcointalk to set up a MN.

Is it unreasonable to have Evan or someone in the know to post here (or twitter and replicated here) every 2 days, around the same time, about what hes worked on and what hes working on? Would shut everyone up  Tongue

In the weeks leading up to the initial RC3 launch, we put out a "Development Status" newsletter every Friday.  Since that initial launch, there has been something major going on almost every weekend, with some sort of announcement to coincide.  That information was used in lieu of the Dev. Status updates.

Last week Evan was dealing with the official pool issue, so I didn't want to bug him about it.  That was a major undertaking - I'm sure there are some here who understand how major.

So basically we've had about a two-week lull between major information releases, but I hope people understand that it hasn't been without reason.  I'll make every effort to get a Development Status update put together for this week.

Did Evan said he was reworking the voting system?

Who the hell knows. There is too much confusion and uncertainty about development status.

Apparently if you have time to hang out on IRC all day you are privy to material information that comes from Evan in snippets. Otherwise you are stuck guessing and interpreting out of context quotes and other third or fourth hand information.

Markets don't like uncertainty. Evan should post a few sentences about current status and current plans here or on twitter.

Dammit why don't we have an useful official source of develoment info for this community

The official sources are only useful if you choose to use them Smiley.

https://twitter.com/DarkcoinCrypto/status/482011593891262464

Edit: Is there a legitimate lack of understanding as to where to obtain official information?  If so, I apologize as I didn't think there was, and I will make a concerted effort this week to make it more clear for everyone.

I've been busy working for the last few days and obviously haven't been spending much time on the forums and IRC. I just read through the last few pages and it's obvious there is a serious lack of information and a good deal of misinformation. So from this point forward I'm going to be filling in eltito (our community leader) on the development status as it happens and he's going to be the one posting official replies and filling in the community. I'm hoping this helps form a clearer picture of what's going on and the status of everything.

I hate that Evan is having to spend his time cleaning up the official pool mess. It's surely frustrating to him, and it's a massive waste of his talents. In retrospect, it's probably a bad idea for a dev team to divide themselves between development and pool administration. But I guess hindsight is 20/20.

Frankly, I think the market is reacting to that fact more than anything else: development on DRK has slowed considerably while the devs spend a great deal of time cleaning up a mess that's barely even an adjunct to the actual currency. Don't get me wrong--I'm sure development is proceeding, but every hour spent closing the pool is an hour of brilliant and innovative ideas that are delayed.

EDIT (6/28/2014)
New clients have been released and more changes have been made. Current versions are v9.11.5 and v10.11.5. It is important that all solo-miners and pool operators update to the correct clients! Miners make the network work, and as such you need to use the right client versions, stay up to date and keep our blockchain healthy and stable!

You can find the new client software on the official downloads page of www.Darkcoin.io.

You're absolutely right. And I'm sure they just took it down for that same reason. Hashrate health is incredible, and hash spread is beautiful ! No need to bring it back up. It was a "Kick-starter" thing worked magic!

And I'm sure InternetApe could use a little time-off to kick back and re-charge energies Wink

It's very true.  We don't want to bug Evan to post on forums etc.  But if information can be passed down the ranks, and people can post on here, and the official website (then people know it's official even if not from the horse's mouth) that would go a long way.

Good to see that we can expect  from updates from Evan via Eltito.  Hopefully some tasks can be delegated to the other core team members such as myself.

Evan checks everything at least once a day, so all he needs is a list of bullets with things to check or update... like

- Need to update OP with this and that
- Need to communicate with X for Z matter
- Need to clarify this on darkcointalk / bitcointalk, thread X, post Z
- Website needs to change link from X to Z

...so he gets input once or twice a day and he checks up the list of things to-do, and does them.

Sure. To be able to delegate powers is essential. It's hardly ever a good idea to centralise all tasks and decisions.
