Wow what a crazy 24 hours or so since the name change announcement.
Personally I like the name darkcoin but I do agree a name change is required to really capture the market in the same way bitcoin is slowly growing.
DASH? Well I'm not sure, it's kinda ok but a bit lame. At the end of the day it is just a name and the technology behind it is sound. So if the decision has officially been made by Evan and the team then let's just move on and run with it.
So is DASH 100% official then ? Can Evan or a dev confirm coz if so then the debate needs to stop now.

Absolutely nothing has been settled, though a lot of ground work has been done to answer
"What do we need to do if we want to do X,Y,Z ?... oh, name change? then what do we need to do if we do do this?"
We are not officially changing anything, just the main Dev feels highly motivated to do so.

First of all I'd just like to give a big sarcastic thanks to the scumbag trolls who have added way too many pages to the discussion, especially those pretending to be supporters of the coin. You know you're trash.
I am totally in favour of rebranding. I don't mind the Darkcoin name myself but I can see for some it is problematic.
I have been unsuccessful so far in offering services for Bitcoin, even at a discount. I do some work as a private tutor and even offering up to a 10% discount, nobody has taken me up on the offer. I haven't offered it to all of my students, but to those who I thought were more likely to be interested. If they have reservations about accepting Bitcoin because the concept of non-government-issued currency is so foreign to them, can it really be expected that will accept another cryptocurrency called Darkcoin? I offer a discount on payments with BTC because I really believe the move to private money will benefit humaity enormously. That said, I believe even more in Darkcoin and some of its features, but was waiting for clients to show enough interest in bitcoin before introducing them to Darkcoin. After rebranding I would be happy offering to accept payments in Bitcoin or Darkcoin at the same time, in order to highlight the aspects of DRK which I feel are technically superior without the possible negative connotation of the word "Dark".
It could be argued that those who would be foolish enough to let the name influence their decision to use a cryptocurrency or not are not worth taking into account, but the reality is that they are probably in the overwhelming majority at the moment. I am happy to explain to people why I think anonymous money is necessary but I am not able to change the experiences in their lives which have led them to associate "Dark" with crime.
It's a real shame to see vertoe leave - he's made some amazing contributions in the last few months. It's also a shame to see wozzek23 go, I've really enjoyed some of his contributions in this thread. I just want to reiterate - to you guys especially - what others have mentioned. Nothing about the underlying tech changes with a different name. If you (or others) had promoted Darkcoin in the past and insisted that the name were not important, it was the underlying tech that was important, the shoe is now on the other foot. The cryptocurrency world moves very quickly and overcoming the name "Darkcoin" just adds an extra hurdle. Perhaps if the world had begun to adopt Bitcoin more quickly, it would be easy now for the general public to overlook Darkcoin's name but I don't believe that is the case.
