..Who wouldn't want the leader of any organization to make changes to improve it. I for one would not want someone who rests on his laurels, and blindly sticks to the status quo, even if it is inferior. A leader with vision, who makes the tough decisions to improve the project is an asset.
summed up for both ends but by definition only one side can see it, “The measure of intelligence is the ability to change.”~~ Albert Einstein ~~ “Those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”~~ George Bernard Shaw ~~ “It is a narrow mind which cannot look at a subject from various points of view.”~~ George Eliot ~~ “Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Dash is 27.3 times faster with syncing and updating than Bitcoin and 93.7 times faster than Monero. Bitcoin (v0.11.0) has a Tao ratio 11.2% faster than bitcoin (v0.10.0) release. Dash (v.0.12.0.49) = Tao sync ratio = 0.15 seconds / hour of update || Dash (v.0.11.2.23) = Tao sync ratio = 0.24 seconds / hour of update. V12 versus V11 speedup = +36.5% Bitcoin (v.0.11.0) = Tao sync ratio = 4.14 seconds / hour of update || Monero (v.0.41.1) = Tao sync ratio = 14.2 seconds / hour of update

Reference link to crowning's two excellent sites (crowning's masternode worldmap & crowning's masternode count), i just put a little Dash banner on top of it. http://qwizzie.1apps.com/dash/note : press refresh if crowning's worldmap does not load first time.. i may put some more Dash related info in there in time, currently i'm just messing around with this website .. see how all this html stuff works.

I just tried to sync two wallets that had been offline for a while. Nothing unusual, but the performance factoids may be of interest. The BTC core wallet started first and reported that it was 2 weeks behind. The DASH core wallet reported it was 13 days behind - close enough for a casual contest. After 14 minutes the DASH wallet was synced and I shut it down. After (checking now) 23 minutes the BTC wallet reports it is 2 weeks behind, but I can see the block count has changed a bit. Tons of other variables - lots of other processes running - this was just for fun. DO try this at home, folks.

Updating the Bitcoin client has become painful here, I'm usually a couple of weeks behind whenever I need it here too and tend to leave it until I don't need the PC for anything else as RAM and HD usage makes the PC unusable for anything else for at least an hour. Hopefully the changes planned for Evolution will take serious steps towards addressing it as it'd be the same for any coin with a blockchain the size of Bitcoins but the DAPI stuff should entirely sidestep any need for a local copy

My impression is that the DASH team is very much on top of the issue. When I posted, the BTC client had not yet entered its data-hog phase. Task Manager never reported more than about 1-2% CPU usage, for instance. However, I knew that would come eventually and sure enough it knocked my Antminers offline after a while (replicable behaviour, not unexpected) and is now reporting 11 days behind, 51 minutes into the run. Looks like it will take a lot longer than an hour this time.

I recently reindex it, took me almost all day. DASH reindexing takes ~45 minutes edit: my PC is unusable as well during the syncing, cpu and ram goes to the stars and I have a good performance PC would say.

I'm glad you brought it up because I was wondering if it was just my setup causing it to be so slow, I've the blockchain on a logical volume on RAID and it's always been thrashy but it's saved my dataz a few times, I guess its not helping but its not the cause at least. I'm not that sure its simply down to the blockchain size either though, it was bearable until around the time of the transaction spamming "blocksize limit testing" thing, I thought it would clear up after but it hasn't. Not sure why, might look into it someday but for now just putting up with it and blaming it on trolls in the blockchain :/

For the sake of closure - every story needs an ending. My BTC client has now synced up after two hours, 27 minutes (started two weeks out of sync), very much slower than the DASH client, as expected. CPU usage had peak bursts around 60% on a core i7, but was generally not bad. Download demand swamped my rural broadband capacity after about the first half hour, knocking several antminers offline. Disk usage seemed fairly steady at almost half a Gig(!) according to Task Manager - I'm not sure whether to believe that figure. What several of us are reporting (I think) is that the BTC client has become very weak when it has to catch up. It is well-behaved once it is in sync, but it has become tempting to leave any BTC wallet "hot" or to stop using it altogether. Ouch! I agree that this performance hit seemed to start at about the time of the "stress tests" (and the intense blocksize debate) but I have no opinions on actual causality - lots of variables in play. Anyway, BTC has a serious problem atm and DASH appears not to share it.

I compare it to downloading a torrent movie, everyone wants to leech and no one wants to seed, no incentive and if the client is using too many resources this will mean less peers for full clients, only SPV wallets will remain.

Yup - the original Napster had that problem too back when it was going to Change the World Forever and give music back to the people without giving anything to the musicians. Chilling parallel, come to think of it, at least in part. Hmmn. SPV for the little guys and increasingly centralized full-feature BTC wallets "to secure the network", eventually leading, I speculate, right back to some version of Greenspan/Bernanke/Yellen. Fiatcoin is not my idea of progress, and I hope they fix BTC soonish, but even if they don't, DASH is looking very robust. Evolution is a bitch (I hope). Memo to self: stop blabbing and get another MN.
