I go to sleep, and i wake up to uther chaos?

1. Airdrop: even though i have some coins, and a possible airdrop would give me more, i have to say no thank you, it will deevaluate the coin, suddenly everyone get free coin for no work? come on, out of my original amount im down to 2 % of what i originally had, the coins mined in the early days have already been redistributed.

2. Name Change? REALLY.. AGAIN? with all these name changes we will end up being the joke of the day, whats the name of that coin this week, ohh it changed again...

It was voted on, people choose darkcoin, deal with it.

How to not give confidence into a coin, look at the past 6 pages, now theres a turnoff from whoever wants to get into the coin, its not the first 24 hours, nor the name, the name tells the function of it, if you want to do something, marketing, is where you go,

Darkcoin, we cast darkness on the blockchain, no more will anyone see what you have...

get a grip on yourself...

IMO there are only two things that will result in the success of the coin - releasing a workable Darksend and getting it noticed by the general public. Everything else is secondary. Brands are built on actions. McDonalds has a PG name but many people think it's one of the most evil corporations out there. If the worriers on this board had their way there would be no Coca Cola. Cocaine was an ingredient of Coca Cola in the early days. It's still in the name but the brand has moved on. Don't even get me started on shiitake mushrooms.

Darkcoin brand will be built on actions - security, price stability, usability + design, marketing, public relations etc. Any possible negative connotations with 'dark' should be ignored. It's already too far down the road. We should all be putting our time into promoting + advancing this thing not focussing on the name.

Same goes for the worriers about the first 24 hrs. Forget about this airdrop thing. The coin would have been dumped to death if there were still big short term holders. It hasn't happened. Focus on releasing a workable Darksend and getting it noticed by the general public.

About name change, the only way to do it (if the decision is made to deal with it) is to hire a professional marketting specialist (as limlim said).

May be he can give his advice on the logo either.

here on the forum, we can only gave our amateurish advice, and the one with the biggest mouth is not necesseraly the one with the right call.

Here's the thing: I accept the fact that the Darkcoin name is not changing, and I stated as such to make people very clear that this has been decided.

All I'm doing is recognising that there is a significant segment of the market that will be wary of the current brand, which we might be able to reach, and brainstorming how we might reach it. If people genuinely believe that us launching a differently branded sister-coin might kill Darkcoin, then the implication that this is exactly what will happen when others inevitably do exactly what I'm suggesting we do. I'm very surprised that people think this is somehow "dangerous" to talk about. Surely it's more dangerous not to talk about it? Or y'know, we could just stick our heads in the sand and hope everything works out.

A sister coin would wipe out Darkcoin, especially if we did it. So it's not a good idea.

Other options are:

1.) Renaming the coin. It keeps coming up over and over, maybe we should really consider it. Everyone start coming up with names and I'll make a voting page to gauge if our user base even wants this.
2.) The first 24 hours of the coins existence keep causing us problems, an "airdrop" could be a solution to this. We could airdrop all holders (uniquely verified) with a equal portion of coin. This coin would come from a block in the future that paid 2.4million+ coins to a specific address that I hold. We could use some kind of verification system like mastercoin (http://mastercoin-faucet.com/github-intro)
The airdrop would be a month or so into the future, so it would give users time to buy coins and become holders creating some demand. Also, we'd have a much larger market cap and the argument about the first 24 hours would become invalid.

As always, we listen to the community. If enough people complain, we'll do something...

I think this is trying to solve a problem that doesn't really exist.

I'm an early adopter, I've been mining since launch (few hours after launch), and during the first 2 weeks I basically sold all the coins from the first 48 hours because at that time the coin didn't seem to have any future. I sold them at ridiculous prices, like 0.05 per 1k XCO, and I'm sure most people who mined during the first days did the same or dumped already, because for many days the coin didn't look like having any future, so after the coin went to exchange markets people dumped huge quantities for quick profit.

Most of the coins I'm holding now are from the 2nd - 3rd week until now, at that time it was easy to mine a few hundreds per day with enough hardware, it was fair and a personal decision to mine this coin or any other coin, I'm sure 99% of the addresses in the top rich list are from people who mined at that time and people who invested in this coin when it was 0.00005BTC per coin, no one should complain about this, it's the way it works, some people decide to risk and invest or mine a coin when it's worthless, hoping that after some time it gets some value.

Just to give you an idea of how it was 2 weeks after launch (I'm the one trying to sell):

To suddenly flood, or eventually flood coins into the Darkcoin economy, when we had a "covenant" as to what this coin's distribution was going to be, would be breaking a major trust that we can never recover from.  This is a huge no-no.  It can not be allowed to happen.  What's done is done, but increasing the supply after people have "bought" literally into this coin is going to cause such a loss of trust, I don't think Darkcoin will survive.
+1. If darkcoin ever increases its supply the developer loses ALL TRUST FOREVER. This isn't a viable option. I will sell and never look back if this 'airdrop' idea is planned. What's done is done; I don't really care if a few people hold a large percentage of the coin.

The only thing that matters now is DARKSEND.

Well the idea behind Airdrop is pretty good ( bare with me ) in the sense that a lot of coins will be distributed more evenly.

This is not what people want though due to reasons but we want it more evenly distributed.

If you have the power to use these first 48h block DRK spend this on hiring the professional marketing team instead.

two birds in one stone. Remove uneven + add publicity = great

Think you misread what he wrote, go and read it again.

Anyway

I think the air drop is a complete waste of time and a silly idea. The first 24 hours that keeps coming up is just FUD spread by someone that is bummed that they did not get in early on this coin.

By all means do it. The block investigation showed the top wallet with 190k coins. But please post your link.

Here is the thing, does that even matter?  Even if the coins are distributed, even if early investors already sold... if Darkcoin has the stigmata of being an instamine coin then that is just one more hurdle that DarkSend must overcome.  I think that is what Evan is worried about and why he made the suggestion.

Now let me be clear, an Airdrop would obviously be terrible, but the idea that the first 48hrs are a not an issue just because everybody in this thread (i.e. the people who have already invested and are hoping for a price increase) thinks so is shortsighted.

Don't forget, there are other anon solutions in the works as well.  Things are not likely to be as simple as DarkSend is first, WE WIN, price goes TO THE MOON.  I can easily imagine a scenario where the adoption of Darkcoin post DarkSend release is slowed by the instamine issue, and Zerocoin, already being more well known, steals the main market share once they release.

tldr; Airdrop is a bad idea, but it is naive to assume that there is no problem with the first 48hrs and that DarkSend will obscure any and all issues with the coin.

About the name - I think the Darkcoin is quite a good name, however if majority wants to change and vote, here's couple ideas:

BitCash
iCash
MyCash
E-Cash

best name is taken:  anoncoin

iCash.

Internet cash. Simple. But only as a name for DarkSend. Leave darkcoin now it has been discussed to death.

Plus we get to wave the finger at Apple.
