Don't be naive, it's only one big player (or team of guys) and you - gambling with the coin.

The problem here is that there is a really big amount of volume so even with a huge crash it will spike back up. Always does and always will

Just don't forget, this isn't "yet another $shitcoin".

We've resisted dumps after pumps 5 times already, no other coin did that.
Every coin which is just the trading tool gets dumped to pieces and slowly dies.

Darkcoin only grows - because this crypto has a purpose.

I was actually one of the people promoting integrating ring signatures into DRK, but someone (AlexGR?) noted that one issue is that it renders masternodes obsolete. This is a problem when a significant portion of the total coins is held in masternodes and they would no longer be 'locked up' - i.e. supply shock. It also removes the interesting quasi-PoS aspect of DRK, which might be a powerful economic factor in DRK's value. On the other hand, if the masternodes were retained, then it's an antiquated 10% tax on miners, which (in the long run) would be passed on to users doing transactions.

Thoughts, eduffield and others? The ideal case seems to be to improve DarkSend with another solution that retains the utility of the masternodes.

(In unrelated news, Zerocoin/ZeroCash is releasing a conference paper very soon with significant changes that some of you may be interested in.)

I had the exact same thought, but Masternodes are also going to be the private I2P relays.  So there's that at least.  They have a lot of potential outside of the coinjoin aspect.  Decentralized exchange, decentralized marketplace, whatever else Evan thinks up.

Darkcoin vs Zerocash/Zerocoin

With the recent rise in price there will be a lot of people coming here to learn more about the coin. So I am quoting selected posts from eddufield so people can find it in the last pages. This is a comparison between Darkcoin and potential competitors like Zerocoin and Zerocash, take notes. Dark has a very solid value proposition and competitive advantages over their approach.

I love Darksend but you have to realize it will be replaced once someone starts a zero knowledge proof coin.

While I've been working on DarkSend I've been thinking about this alot. You know what the problem is with a zero knowledge proof? There's a secret key that will be attacked by governments and it will eventually be cracked. That will make every transaction that ever happened in that blockchain cleartext and allow every future transaction to also be viewed as cleartext. I'm going to venture to say the government is working on quantum computers and such crypto can be solved with shor's algorithm. When they do, they're not going to tell anyone. So it's a giant honeypot.

DarkSend is immune to such attacks, all involved crypto functions could be cracked and the mixing is still done off blockchain by the masternodes. Off blockchain means that the information is lost and that's the only way to secure it, you can't do it with cryptography.

Plus Darkcoin would of still been way better had it not been abandoned.
