LTC is crumbling. People are diversifying now that the silver propaganda is finally coming to l now that the silver propaganda is finally coming to light
Whats "the Silver Propaganda" out of interest. Is that where people try to promote LTC as the "silver" of crypto ? What has "come to light" ? Basically yes, that LTC is the silver to BTC's gold. For the most part, it seemed to trade at a similar ratio, about 1:60 like the current gold:silver ratio. Hard reality for a coin that has to deal with 28,800 new coins daily and no new features to boot. People are missing the point. Its less about features and more about usage. I could argue that every new coin to hit the market is "better" than Bitcoin because its got something Bitcoin doesn't. Litecoin is basically a faster version of Bitcoin secured by a different algorithm. Nothing special there, but Its key feature is its community. More people are invested in litecoin than any other alt coin, and more people transact with litecoin than any other alt coin. To think people are all of a sudden going to start selling Litecoin in mass, and buying another coin is not thinking clearly. The way darkcoin overcomes litecoin is by outgrowing it. Usage is everything. When day to day darkcoin transactions become reality, the coin will have a shot at #2. Right now more people speculate on the price then actually use it as currency. I agree with this. Everything takes time.

1 9 0 0 pages! WOW 2k comming ! EDIT: 195 active MNs so far.... will we hit 500 MN friday!?!?! I don’t think we will see that many masternodes by Friday. In my case I will have my clients running the latest version to support the fork but I wont be firing up my masternodes until next week after the fork and I guess a lot of people will do the same, I expect the masternode count to ramp up quickly in the days after a successful fork. Like everything in life people with the masternodes running from the very beginning will get rewarded with extra coins, this time around I prefer to wait until the dust settles and everything is working smoothly so the first week should be really profitable for early masternode ops. Now I am getting ready for Brasil vs Mexico should be a fun match to watch.

If you are an LTC man, I respect this post even more. I don't know how it happened, but I started with LTC really and started with Litecointalk more than here as a matter of fact. Two things changed my entire perspective and I started to become more disciplined as an "investor" rather than a blind crypto believer. 1) Coblee announcing affinity for Scrypt ASICs. It absolutely blew my mind when it happened and I suddenly realized that it was all an "egalitarian" scam. That "silver" is brainwashing and stupid subservience. How do people stand this? 2) The fucking arrogance of Litecointalk. Everyone behaving as if they are born with a silver spoon up their asses. Their heavy headedness could put bitcoin holders to shame.

When day to day darkcoin transactions become reality, the coin will have a shot at #2. Right now more people speculate on the price then actually use it as currency. You can talk all you want about usage though, but it's not a store of value if price continues to decline. And yes, mass traders are selling Litecoin for another coin... Bitcoin. You can talk community all you want, Doge has that, but look at where it is today. It's hard to sustain any sort of stable price when the inflation is just too much to overcome. I'm not saying DRK is going to immediately take Litecoin's spot... LTC has held that position for as long as I can remember. But if you start seeing DRK hold the #3 spot and more and more continued features start coming together for DRK, I wouldn't rule anything out. I'm certainly not saying it's going to be a mass exodus of LTC overnight. I just question where the "value" of LTC is over BTC when BTC has the first-mover advantage, a larger merchant adoption, bigger brand recognition and more capital investment (in both services and infrastructure). EDIT: It's ridiculous at the pillar the LTC community stands on over on Litecointalk. I understand they are proud of their coin but they come across as a bunch of douches automatically disregarding any coin other than their own it seems. DRK has new features that LTC does not. DRK fills a niche that one way or the other would be filled. I'm certainly not going to start attacking those that want to hold LTC, I just want to know where you guys are seeing the value in holding it.

Doesn't Bitcoin and its supporters do the same thing? Why would they continue to hold BTC when new coins with better features are released? Because its more about the stability of the network and how the coin is utilized than how fancy or shiny it is. People are not selling Litecoin in mass, not even close. Its down about 10%. Darkcoin fell that hard on two separate occasions in the last 2 weeks alone. What's more ridiculous are the people that think darkcoin is somehow so special it deserves to be on top. Darksend is great and you're right its filling a role. But there are a number of other coins that have anonymous transactions in testing or in the works. What will make or break darkcoin is the people using it, just like the users who made litecoin. I believe whole heartedly in darkcoin, but its naive to think it should be number 2 simply because it exists. EDIT: Full disclosure I own a good amount of DRK and LTC.

Bitcoin and its supporters can act the same way (not saying it is the right way to act), but rightfully so, BTC has very much established itself. I've never been one to believe an altcoin will replace BTC. That's my personal opinion, but I do think valuation-wise, DRK can, at some point in the future take the #2 spot. You're right, it only works on the backbone of users deciding to process transactions via darksend and enjoying their privacy, but I don't think it is terribly unreasonable for a percentage of existing BTC users to be attracted to a coin that allows them anonymity. It would take less than 5% of BTC's current market cap value in terms of users that want that feature to overtake LTC's current market cap by a large margin. I'm not one to get ahead of myself... we first need to easily hold the #3 spot, then the $100M area before even thinking about setting sights on anything higher. Back when DRK was 60-65 cents, I always believed that privacy as a niche was worth at least a $50 million market cap. Here we are only months later seeing that as a reality. I'm also a believer that if by Q3/Q4 we see Wall Street offering a true ETF (one that is structured in the way that the fund has to outright purchase BTC and hold it), BTC will easily set new highs. I see $2-2.5k as a reasonable, logical target. All of 2013 you had the average investor reading about how far and how fast BTC ran up but for most, investing in the coin wasn't easy. Give the Average Joe a chance to easily get exposure and I think new highs will easily be reached.

Can anyone help me with setting up MN issue. My trouble is on local side (Ubuntu). For some reason, darkcoind / darkcoin getinfo only runs after i sudo su - . . . But that gave version as 91001, blocks were correct. Then I exit su, cd ~/.darkcoin/ , and wget http://www.darkcoin.io/downloads/rc/darkcoindNow, I can only run darkcoind + commands in su and still on version 91001. When I try run darkcoind from regular user, I get : Error: failed to read block Error: failed to connect to best block Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Any help is appreciated

Go back through the guide (I assume you are using chaeplins guide here for local/remote setup: https://www.darkcointalk.org/threads/how-to-set-up-ec2-t1-micro-ubuntu-for-masternode-part-2-3.241/ ) and make sure you've followed it exactly if you're not 100% sure what you're doing.

Could somebody help me with the masternode setup?
Everything seems to be set up correctly, but it takes forever to find connections, and the log is full of connection timeout messages..
The blockchain is up to date, and its syncronizing (current connection count is 1 after an hour of running the client), I just don't see why connections are dropped. Is it because of incorrect iptables rules?

Can somebody plase help me out on the text file editing parts of the chaeplin's guide ?
What text editor are people using for adding the extra lines to the ip routing table there - gedit ?
I only ask because the guide is so literal everywhere else - every step included - but if I call edit at step 6 it says it isn't installed. Are the text-editing sections implicit ? (i.e. it's assumed that we know how to download and use our own command line text editor make the appropriate changes as described).
Another thing that confuses me is this line seems to throw me into some kind of text editor which I don't know what is:
/etc/default/sysstat : "ENABLED="true"
When that's called, the cursor chafes to a ">" which I assume is because I'm in the text editor. CTRL-X does nothing and CTRL-C gets me back out but doesn't save the modification. With me not being a linux geek, I'm assuming the line of code above is some shorthand for editing the file without explicitly calling the text editor in the code.
I'm obviously missing some basic step here. Thanks for any tips which can resolve this !
