...to whom the UK police immediately paid a visit after I contacted them. As BTC is not regulated, the fraudster was given the opportunity to return all funds paid, which they did. unfortunately it's not going any further than that, as none of the BTC were actually exchanged for £UKSterling. This was again, an effort of the community in making sure all JNBitcoin seller accounts were frozen (localbitcoin et al) Yes, Avenger did most of the hard work in tracing the funds. this effort to catch a crook is now complete, why are we still rambling on with hate messages and conspiracy theories? It was a UK fraud, nipped in the bud, and to which - the police have no obligation to follow. Where I'm from it would work another way. They would be punish for their criminal behavior anyway. Based on public interest. Even if the victims would say "nah, leave them alone" - they might be under pressure to say so and criminal behavior is criminal behavior which needs to be persecuted..

This is the information I have, the police never release details of prosecutions until a court judgement is made - especially to the media, within which industry I work... if this court case ever occurs, which is unlikely as the victims and witnesses are global and not easily accessible for court hearings, until BTC is regulated as an asset (there is talk that it will be covered by capital gains tax), the law does not cover it. We might see it as a form of currency, but at the moment it's not that, it's just something called a 'bit coin'... which doesn't in any sense, mean it's money. It's looked upon as ' internet vouchers' similar to how, if I have a pile of tesco vouchers taken from me, the police would make all effort to return the vouchers to me, but would be under no obligation to prosecute. this is why this community is important, we can ensure these frauds don't go unchecked, and we are able to put a stop to them. |
