Hey wizkid, you see the news about shellshock bash vulnerability today?  You may want to take a look at it.  I don't know enough about mining to know if that could be used to exploit a mining server but after that person used an exploit to steal all that NMC from Eligius, you may want to look at what this new exploit means for the webserver (if anything).

That vulnerability is being overblown to epic levels.  It requires something else on the server to allow an external connection to run commands on the local shell.  I'd call *that* the vulnerability, not bash.

I don't know enough to know how dangerous it is but it sounds pretty bad.  People say it is wormable which would put it on the bad end of the spectrum.  Also from what I have read it sounds like a number of fairly common CGI scripts can be exploited and you don't have to be using them in your webpage they just have to be in a path that can be called via URL.  Of course having CGI scripts in a path accessible via URL that aren't even being used would be a little sloppy but if a default apache implementation left some somewhere and they were never removed it could mean the server is vulnerable.  Regardless, always better to be on the proactive side of these things.

NMC setup?

I put my address in the address field but after hitting saved changes! it says that my signature fails? When I exit out and go back into My Eligius it shows my NMC field blank again? Is this normal?

I have tried it in Chrome, Firefox, and IE 10 and gotten the same results each time.

I never signed any message, I have only used my BTC address to start mining and never have made changes to any of the settings on the config settings page.

In case your not sure how to sign a transaction  Wink

This example makes it easy :

Post # 410:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=195052.msg2087551#msg2087551

It is confusing, until you do it once

Open notepad:

1.Go to your "receive coins" button, click it,copy & paste that addy in notepad. This is YOUR wallet addy, any BTC sent to it will end up in your wallet & no one else's.
I only have one receive addy,if you have more than one...........I don't think it matters, just pick one.Someone correct me if I'm wrong

2.Now,go to "transactions" button, click it, find the transaction you want to sign, right click on it & click on "show details".Copy & paste the "Transaction ID" in notepad.

3.Your ready to sign a message,go to "file",upper left corner, click it & click "sign message".

4.Copy & paste YOUR wallet addy in line 1.........In the body copy & paste the "Transaction ID".Put your info in there too, what the BTC was sent for & how much (EXACT amount),name, shipping address,etc...

5.Click "sign message" on the bottom,it will generate a unique ID #.Now copy & paste the info from all 3 sections in an email or PM,keep them seperate in the email (don't just bunch em together) & volia!!!!

You just signed a message

Greetings Miners,

I just want to repost the announcement made on our website about the meeting scheduled for discussing mining policies at Eligius.

Quote
The discussion has been tentatively scheduled for Saturday, October 4th at 4 PM UTC in hopes that this is convenient for the greatest possible number of miners. This is 9 AM for west coast USA, noon for east coast USA, and 8 PM for Moscow. It is also Lamboary  at 9.99T by the Tonal calendar and clock.

The meeting will be in our #eligius channel on Freenode IRC.

Basically want to have a discussion with current miners about different aspects of transaction policies and spam filtering on Eligius and make some determinations on how to move forward in the short term.  Ultimately GBT will facilitate this in some form to all miners directly, but the details of that aren't yet ironed out.

Hope you will join us!

-wk

Did something happen to the connection at Eligius 12 hours or so ago? I noticed my miner just failed over to my other connection. Checking PRTG I don't have any indication my connection dropped off.

Must be getting a lot bad blocks over the last couple of days because my status show a flat line on the maximum reward graph, after 1/2 a day to a day it starts moving up again.

Since you have no control over luck at any pool, this is counter productive IMO.  Consistent mining at Eligius is always going to yield better returns in the long run than hopping, unless you're hopping broken reward systems like proportional.

I guess the status page is temporary broken, after what happened earlier (15h ago or so). No reason to hop pools IMHO.
I'm seeing the hashrate averages stuck at the same values since this morning, no matter what the interval are they calculated over.
I guess your charts follow the stuck values.

Later Edit: Everything is frozen there, including the balance, .. we hit a block 18 minutes ago and there are no changes in the stats, except the round duration.
