Of course not. It is used to reward all of the pool's miners, based on how much work they do. That's just how pooled mining works.

What you say is true, but it doesn't change the fact that nowadays mining Litecoin with anything other than an ASIC is unprofitable. If you're not convinced, I invite you to do the math. At the current price of $28, and assuming you pay 0.06 $/kWh (which is very cheap), in order to be profitable at 7 W you would have to do at least 125 kH/s. You didn't mention your Pi's hash rate, but if my memory serves it should be lower than that by at least one order of magnitude.

Dogecoin) because of its Scrypt hashing algorithm in order to prevent ASIC miners from mining those coins. However it is said that by the end of this year, Scrypt ASIC will enter the mass market."

I can't tell what year it means by "end of this year" but sounds like ASIC has already entered the LTC market.

I'm still really interested in mining and like the way this pool works (litecoinpool.org) but I honestly have no idea what ASIC miner to buy, where to buy it, or how much I need to pay to get any decent return. I saw the calculator, but I am stuck at knowing what basic hardware to start with. I don't even own a desktop PC, just a few laptops. I understand you can't even use a laptop, or does that change with ASIC?

I find so much info online about various "getting started" things, but nothing seems to start from scratch on equipment. Hoping you can help and understanding you're just sharing knowledge and aren't responsible for what I buy and results I get with it.

If I remember correctly, the very first scrypt ASICs started appearing in early 2014.

Nowadays trying to mine Litecoin with commodity hardware is pure folly. You would only end up losing time and money.
You should know that most ASICs today are standalone machines. You usually just have to plug them into your local network and connect them to an adequate power supply. They are typically configured via a web panel that you can access using any computer with a browser, and the whole process tends to be pretty straightforward.

I really prefer not to name any particular brand or model because I've never personally operated a Litecoin ASIC, but you can definitely make yourself an idea of what other people are using by reading this and other threads.

My question: My Antminer control panel has been consistently showing 502 MH/s with very little variation. But, on my Litecoinpool Account page, the hashrate can vary +/- 50 MH/s.

What would be your opinion on why there would be this difference? I am running only Litecoinpool, and no other pool on my Antminer.

I have restarted my miner twice over the past 20 hours and it made no difference.

Do you think that it is because Litecoinpool is using some calculation to guess what my miner's hashrate is, instead of knowing what it is?

The hashrate is based on the shares that you submitted to the litecoinpool. So maybe this time if you submitted lots of shares then the hashrate will be higher and vice versa. The real hashrate speed is in your antminer control miner.

Yes, that's exactly it. Miners do not communicate their hash rate to pools, so pools can only estimate it based on how frequently shares are submitted. You can find a little more information in this FAQ.

I'm not sure what your question is, to be honest. There's an option in the account settings that allows you to hide your username from public statistics, and if you check it you'll show up as "anonymous".

Not all L3+s can run at the same speed, but right now for 500 MH/s the expected daily rewards are about 0.1028 LTC (see the calculator). Mind, however, that the difficulty is going to rise again in a couple hours.

I'm curious and there may be something I may be missing, but for LTC mining it seems the L3+ is being pushed as the only way to mine LTC now, yet my Rx 580 is doing better(~800mhs) than what is listed as the average mhs rate for the L3+ (~520). I literally just started mining LTC again as I post this so I have nothing mined recently at the moment and am waiting to see. Been mining FTC heh. Should I not even bother or am I right? Is my RX 580 actually worth using?

Feathercoin is NeoScrypt if I'm not mistaken.  That is not the same algorithm as LTC.  I think your card runs around 30Mh/sec on the Scrypt algorithm, or about 17 times slower than a L3+.

I'm not doing anything special, just copied and pasted the info. My machines are running default settings, one is at 503.9MH/s for the last 24 hours, the other 505.0MH/s.

The last 2 diff changes really sucked, I'm assuming it was when the batch of L3+s that mine were in all came online, coupled with Nicehash shutting down.  I went from .1LTC every 6 hours to now .2LTC per day =/  Thankfully LTC spiked up to compensate for that.  I just started mining with them on the pool on the 7th, before that I ran them on antpool for a day or so.

Don't even bother. If your GPU is doing 800 MH/s then you must be on a different algorithm, or possibly you mistook kH/s for MH/s.

I think your card runs around 30Mh/sec on the Scrypt algorithm, or about 17 times slower than a L3+.

Last time I checked, the fastest GPU on the market could do something like 1 MH/s on scrypt, or about 500 times slower than a L3+.
