But Aussie chickened out, may be for good reason or may be not, who knows but its hypothetical situation so everything goes. In case of UAE, if group system is a thing then it seems possible.
It was the Australian board which chickened out, and not their government. The government was favorable, but the board probably wanted to give preference to the IPL. UAE do have a large number of cricket facilities, in most of the Emirates. Apart from the three main Emirates (Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah), they do have good stadiums in Ajman and Fujairah. @bryant.coleman there’re two things that we all should understand here, firstly CA turned down the opportunity to host the T20 World Cup, due to financially difficulties, and if we think logically then it would have indeed been difficult for them to host all the teams in a pandemic due to financial issues. Secondly CA knew that they would earn revenues if IPL took place, and for a board whose finances were hit they knew that IPL was their best bet to earn much needed revenues, and therefore I feel that they did the right thing as they needed the money from IPL to survive in the long run. As T20 World Cup is a big tournament, so Australia and New Zealand can jointly host it. They have previously hosted the ODI World Cup jointly. So, they have got experience in working together. It will be a fascinating tournament, as both nations have got a solid team and a large fan base.
Obviously that was the original plan. They won the hosting rights together. I don't think that there are a lot of countries out there, who can host a 16-team tournament on their own, especially when the pandemic is surging. The BCCI would have hosted the tournament in India, but then the politicians and the activists would appear and make a big issue out of it.

They are just copying IPL. One of the most exciting part of IPL is a team can play at most 4 international players in a team. Which gives it an international feel. It makes it popular in the countries of the players participating as well becomes more thrilling to local users.
The exciting part of IPL according to me is the level of competition and the quality of players and they should increase the number of foreign players in a team for the real excitement but they have their restrictions and we assume that they are doing that to help the domestic players and it is a good thing as it is giving them a financial boost as well. You cannot call other tournaments copying IPL, club matches are not a new concept and Soccer is more popular in the club circuit than International matches other than World Cup and Cricket is just trying to replicate that in the T20 format.

If they increase the number of foreign player in a team, then what is will be the benefit of holding a T-20 competition? The primary goal is to find aggressive all rounders and to earn money for BCCI. In my opinion it is okay to have only 4 foreign players and put an age cap to avoid the oldies. There are many young foreign talents who are not getting an opportunity here because IPL allows franchises to buy old or retired players. I think they should also do the same for Indians as most veterans are now playing as if it is a domestic cricket.

Because the main goal of BCCI is to find talented young players. And after every IPL we can see BCCI has got a lot of young talented players. As a result, the Indian squad is always strong. I agree with you, older players should be avoided and young players should be given more opportunities. Because the youngsters will lead the next Indian team.

I would personally go for a 5 player per team limit for foreign players. It would mean that low quality players such as Kedar Jadhav, Piyush Chawla and Dinesh Karthik are weeded out from the playing XI. Right now the limitation of 4 overseas players is only benefiting these oldies and not any younger player. Also, there are plans to increase the number of teams from the current 8 to either 9 or 10, and that should give room for fringe players.

There are some young talents that were in display and if not for the IPL we would not hear from them and there was one player from MI who was consistent throughout the tournament and did not get a place in the Australian tour and there was legit heat from everyone for not including that player, if not for the IPL no one would know about him or his performance, it is helping the young players as well as the retired players ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) .

Obviously with the domestic cricket in India not being in good shape, the IPL is the primary platform for the younger players to showcase their talent in front of the selectors. A number of good young players were noticed during this edition of the IPL. My only concern is that the test format may get overshadowed by the glitz of IPL. Everyone is after T20 these days.

IPL is really created to find the young talents in India and we also have to accept that it changed the cricket era to the next level after the introduction of IPL but now IPL is now turning into more business than sports so we may see the increase in the overseas player limit but I don't think there will be an increase in the teams because they tried it in the past but it didn't worked.

Nope. IPL was not created to find young talent. We have various domestic tournaments, especially the Ranji Trophy to do that job. The main purpose of the IPL is to provide funds to the BCCI, so that they can develop the domestic cricket tournaments. IPL was always a business and will be so for the remainder of its lifespan. They are considering increasing the number of teams to 9, and a number of industry heavyweights (especially Adani and Goenka) are making their moves. Let's see whether the new team will be permitted from 2021 or not.

It was Subhash Chandra who came up with the ICL, because the BCCI under Srinivasan and Sharad Pawar would award TV rights only to their cronies. BCCI never expected the ICL to be successful, but it was able to generate a lot of revenues. Ego was hurt and the BCCI decided to destroy the ICL once and for all, by starting a league of their own. So they revived the idea of a franchise based league, which was discarded multiple times earlier. In the end, it turned out to be a boon for the BCCI. The IPL now accounts for the majority of the BCCI revenues.

You are right. But whether those players are suitable for the national team is tested in IPL. Because all the best players in the world play in IPL.

And that's the reason why it may be logical to increase the overseas player limit to 5. It will remove the useless players such as Kedar Jadhav, and replace them with quality international players. During IPL 2020, I noticed a large number of quality international players, who didn't got enough opportunities due to the 4-player limit. Some of them are Mitchell Santner, Imran Tahir, Sandeep Lamichhane, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Hardus Viljoen, Mitchell McClenaghan, Adam Zampa, Mohammad Nabi and Fabian Allen.

Yes, you are absolutely correct main purpose of IPL is to generate revenue for BCCI and the second one is to test potential T20 players for the A team. Seeing the revenue earned by BCCI through IPL most boards started their own leagues and to date they have not been able to equal the revenue amount of IPL.

And this is where things go wrong for the other boards. Everyone want to copy the IPL and establish their own franchise T20 leagues. They never do proper research on the viability of such leagues. Even smaller boards like the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have jumped in with their LPL. In most cases, these leagues end up as loss making ventures, because the boards overestimate the potential revenues.

Many of the sports boards in India have successful franchise leagues established by them. Some of them are well established, such as the Tamil Nadu Premier League and the Karnataka Premier League, while others are still in their infancy. But these state leagues don't feature any foreign players and the salaries are low. On the other hand, Sri Lanka is having a population of around 20 million (less than one-third of that of Tamil Nadu), and they have launched a glitzy T20 league with international players. I would be glad, if the league is successful. But I am skeptical, given the limited size of the market in Sri Lanka.
