EDIT: It seems the closed source thing is a lie. https://github.com/amjuarez/bytecoin
Forking could be an option.

The GUI wallet is closed source.

The coin (without GUI wallet) has been forked like 30 times already, starting back in April last year when the community started to figure out what a joke this launch was.

Hi BCN community,

I am investigating Smooth as a developer who spends his entire day attacking his competitors, with 50 posts attacking 3 competitors today.  I am not here to assess the validity of any particular coin and I have never invested in BCN or know much about it apart from it was the original Cryptonote coin.

Feel free to vote or provide any info on Smooth that might be relevant.

What is your OS? Do you use GUI or reference client? Please, give me more details of the problem.

I already tried deleting the whole bytecoin folder in %appdata% but 0 peers still and I cannot download any block. This didn't happen before. I can download blocks fine on bitcoin and any other coin.
I already deleted %appdata%/bytecoin and went back to 1.0.5 but still the same problem occur. It is allowed on windows firewall.

I tried bytecoind and same thing happens.

Information about the supposed premine would be interesting, too

Monero is working fine.

Even the built-in miner works, but I still can't get peers.

Is this Bytecoin? http://www.coindesk.com/interpol-held-a-dark-market-war-game-using-its-own-cryptocurrency/

Note, that they have also chosen not to answer this:

Or, it is a honey pot.

Ullo, are you or have you been - or anyone else in BCN or CN teams to the best of your knowledge - working with or in co-operation with any law enforcement agencies or national security authorities on the subject of crypto currencies? If the answer is yes, but you are not allowed to answer, then don't, and we will know the answer and you haven't broken your gag order nor lied to us (sting operation / entrapment could get the case dismissed in some jurisdictions so it's in your best interest to not answer if you have to lie).

shortest tl;dr: bytecoin and cointelegraph are conspiring on various levels, are shady as fuck and can't be trusted.

Bytecoin Updates to 1.0.7.1, Enhances Network Stability

Today Bytecoin has been updated to v.1.0.7.1. This release is mainly devoted to enhanced network stability and simplewallet improvements.

There have been several reports on Bytecoin Wallet not being able to sync after the latest release. Today's update resolves any issue that could arise. We urge you to update your daemons and Wallets to the most recent version.

Apart from the mentioned improvements, today's release also defines the internal Fusion Manager interface which will be responsible for fusion transactions. The latter is the special type of zero fee transactions designed for optimizing users wallets. In layman terms, the process will be similar to changing a number of coins into a smaller number of larger banknotes. It will decrease the size of the ordinary transactions, allowing greater flexibility and higher anonymity level.

Fusion transactions are scheduled for release v.1.0.8, which is coming out next week.

Hello everybody.

I'd like to thank the Bytecoin Team for publishing another article that I wrote by popular demand (thanks for the feedback I got after "The History of Proof Of Work").

The article is called Alternatives for Proof of Work, Part 1: Proof of Stake. I've tried to briefly show how PoS works and highlight some advantages and disadvantages of this algo. Again, this is the first part of the article that discovers alternative algos that underlie cryptocurrencies. I'm currently finishing the second part.

Hope you guys will take a look and tell me what you think about it!

The wallet on the website for download is still v1.0.6.1.   What's up with v1.0.7.1 ?
