You don't have to invest in an ICO to join the crypto market. You can also invest in solid / well known coins. so the ico debacle shouldn't be the reason to gain more crypto investors. but you are right, ico scammers should be followed harder and get a fair punishment.

Yes, and i believe that was the real reason for the big scamming situation in 2018. Think about that, you steal money from the public and no one can stop you or punish you. ı believe that after the first Scam in the blockchain history started this because there was no penaalty for that. That's none reason to not to invest. Scammers to some extent are being sought after depending on the jurisdiction they belong to. But as we realize the crypto nature, it's largely the investors who should research enough before investing in any project. Crypto was a get rich quick scheme in the past but is not as now.

That's one of the risk in joining crypto specially if you are joining ICOs wherein it is not regulated by law so that means it is hard for us to prosecute those scammers with bags of money. Then try to encourage your friends to invest with bitcoin and other altcoins than to introduce him to fake projects and scam ICO's, he might be missing something if he will only focus on the scam projects. We know that those scammers are there with shitcoins so if you are a wise investors you will put your money on those sure coins that is already in the market. From what i know CEO of Zenminer and Paycoin (XPY) Josh Garza was arrested in past. I think for now, scammers or maybe bad developers, not means to say all developers is bad. But some of them can run free because their disclaimer in Whitepaper that said if investor take responsibility of their investment by themself.

Scammers can run freely and easily after they make to scam people because there are no consequences on what they do, or there are no offense put unto them so they can get right away on doing fraudulent act. I agree. This is one drawback of crypto being (pseudo) anonymous is that people behind can just run off with investors money. So that's why we need to DYOR and investigate first before we invest our hard earn money here. There could be crypto regulations that can help at least minimised those scammers, however, this is a on-going debate in the community. So just be careful out there.

I have been saying this for long...the whole industry has to do concrete steps to contain these scammers otherwise the bright future we are looking for can be compromised as many victims are scared to get back into investing again and the reputation of cryptocurrency is being damaged. The problem starts with the fact that it is easy to start a project and proceed to crowdsale without getting vetted or getting the necessary permits to show that the people behind the project are real and not hiding anything. There must be a way a KYC for these project proponents instead of just requiring us to submit documents I think we should also require these people to do the same.

we need regulation of ico's, for the developers of the project atleast, so if they try to scam their investors they wouldn't get away with it, and hopefully they would be able to give their money back to the investors, you should tell your friends don't bother investing in ico's because most of them are scam and if not the developers are lazy with their project, it's better to invest in established projects instead.

Yes this is the only one reason for that many countries Government try to avoid crypto. If the cause will be solved in the future then crypto will be more popular in all country. According to the articles that I've read online a few months back and according to my experience, ICO is a very dangerous kind of investment since you're not either sure if after the ICO the project will be successful or not, many will use the project/coin or not, etc. also there are some professional scammers who are making a promising project and have a professional whitepaper as well as fake team but in the end it will end up a scam.

If the project is successful and listed on exchange, I've experienced a 95% loss from my original investment... So I may say that if you're going to invest just invest into trading and to a coins that has a large volume such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, EOS, etc.

The scammers will always try to steal people's money in many ways, and it is our job to be careful to decide. I think there have been few that got arrested as well but it all depends on the country and the laws.

For example, if I am not wrong there was this cloud mining operation something like zenhash or something, I am not entirely sure about the name but they scammed their customers via cloud mining operation far exceeding what they had and built like a ponzi scheme on that and when they couldn't pay people and suddenly crashed all prices they were sued and authorities were given the information and they got literal jail sentence for it and in jail because of it.

Now that is not common but mt.gox was sued as well and I guess karpeles has some jail time too (not sure about this) but definitely got sued and went to court, so there are examples of trouble for scammers but that is not stopping them at all in third world countries for example.

Scams have taken over ranging from the floating/introduction of fake projects with dubious intentions down to porosity of project security leading to unscrupulous elements defrauding and hacking people's wealth and assets. There's nothing you can do about it except if you know who it is and where they are living, then you can decide to go after them since you have their identity and you can easily trace. I also agree that scammers should get arrested but I know its very hard to do since you are dealing with crypto which is very discreet. My advice is not to invest in ICOs if you are too worried about scammers. You can still try crypto market if you invest in trusted coins like bitcoin and ethereum.

This is the thing that should be regulated, those people behind any crypto project must be accountable with all the money they get from each of their investors, there should be a body that regulate and enforce penalties for those who would just scam a project intentionally. At the time of registration of the project, they certainly had an address with the country where they founded the company. And in that country, of course there is legal legality about crypto or refers to public fraud. So you can report to the authorities in that country.

it is very difficult to destroy scammers in crypto space even though regulations can be implemented, it is just a warning and most of them do not care about that. The Crypto Community should be better able to understand the risks experienced from the past and not support all forms of suspicious ico projects.

Indeed scammers make many people afraid to invest in the cryptocurrency market. But if they do research first before investing, it is less likely to participate in a scam project. Hopefully the government will issue a regulation that can punish scammers

Well, this is the part of the challenges facing investment in cryptocurrency. Ever since I joined crypto investment business, I have never seen or hear how scammers are arrested and jail for defrauding people and this is the reason why there has been increase in the scamming rate because a lot of scammers think this is the best way to scam people by creating fake ICO with fake team. Even I have come accross project that are registered in some international countries turning to scam also. depending on the country the scammer is located and how the country treats such people or how the country react to such crime. You know in US they take scammers as a very serious crime and will not waste time to prosecute them. So if some countries take this very likely,  then you would see a different approach.

But most of the projects in ICO are not in the US, there are only few projects like CENTRA that was considered as they violated the law in the US, and they got jailed IIRC, so other projects are now smarter, they learn from the big mistake of CENTRA and they run their project in different country where crypto regulation is still lax.

This is the sad thing about this one. When fake ICOs launched and scam people, we cannot do anything but rather report it to the community and warn others not to invest in it. Sadly, those scammers can easily get away with the money they gathered without no trace of their personal life.

Experience and knoledge are everything, scamer have both it. when caught by people, they can change profil and replacing another project and do trying to scaming again. this is cyrcle situation.

Well i think there are still so many scammer that are running freely after they do scam to others, specially in crypto, in crypto there are so many ways for scammer to earn by doing a lot of scam things. I guess the scam rate now is getting lower, AFAIK, most scams are from ICO but since investors have found IEO a better way to invest than ICO, so those random teams who will just create to scam will not be able to attract investors again.

Once bitten twice shy. It is not only you that have those that are scared of ICOs because of one or two investment in scammer project. I think, tougher rules or penalty should be applied on ICO to scare these project scammers out of crypto space.

It depends on him creating trust for greedy people who want to make money quickly with easy x5 or x10 prices. They should accept such risks

Those victims that patronizing the scam attempts are really hopeless once being victimized, scammers are everywhere and always looking for good chance
to take their advantages, if you want to avoid them before doing anything make sure to have full understanding of what investment form you are going to support to make sure you can do good precautions.

I really don't think they are, some countries deal with scammers and give them the punishment they deserve. So I would say that it depends on what country the scammer is, as I know very well that the United States don't tolerate scammers
