The thing is that Messi's contract had ended and when he wanted to renew his contract, then Barca realized that they cannot afford Messi without violating the rules of the league. I would say that Barca should have been more calculative about this as Messi is the backbone of Barca but it is what it is. Maybe if the pandemic didn't happen, Messi could have stayed at Barcelona.

I don't know the regulations fully, but as far as I know, if a player wants to renew his contract, the club cannot reduce the wage by more than 50% and that is where the caveat was. this is probably speculation from most people because even though the sheriff can survive this far but I think the 2nd leg will be a little different.
and actually when looking at the current standings the sheriff should just play it safe so that there is no defeat for his team can benefit them at least they still have a chance to advance to the next round.

Barcelona's problem is generic in nature. Maybe financial crisis is being is being fronted but there is not the only problem the club is facing. The club is facing management problems. In the midst of their financial problem, or even before it was to become obvious, they should have made a huge money with Messi. But Messi surprisingly left like any common player would.
Is it because of the financial problem that made the coach less confident and less tactical?
Barcelona should try and bring in a coach that has not experience of Messi. This will go a long way to introduce fresh ideology and strategy in the club.

^ Management problems have been a thing for Barcelona for quite a long time. In recent years we saw a lot of coach change and even president change. A club cannot reach the stability of the management changes every now and then. Also, one thing to note is that every management tries to run the club in their own way so even the players need a bit of time to adjust. And about the crisis,  maybe Barca should have addressed this a long time ago as this has not happened overnight right? The only way they can recover from this is by giving it time. Let 2 or 3 seasons pass by and things will be normal.
