Perhaps the penalty is not that significant, but I'm sure that they are aware that what they're doing is against the rules of their contract. As most of these players are already veterans in the league, they aren't setting a good example for young players. Maybe they couldn't resist the temptation to play since the PBA is currently on a break, but as I said, they should be aware of the rules, and that's not a good excuse. Just my personal take about playing outside their contracts, or what we called ligang labas, some of them are earning huge amount as we know they are just like celebrities when they go outside there are fans who love seeing them, in terms of sanctions and penalties I'm sure they are well aware and they are neglecting it and they are willing to go behind their sign contracts knowing that the possible profits when they play outside might be better than the penalties. I mean, it can be covered, and with how PBA is handling a case like this, I'm pretty sure it won't be the last time we will hear about it. Then probably the league has to revise their rules regarding the penalty and make it more severe so players won't break it just because they earn more than the penalty that will be imposed on them. The main concern here is the health of the players. Once they are injured and they are a big piece of the team, the whole team will suffer, and they'll have a bad season. That's what the league is trying to prevent. It's what we call protecting their investment.

Good point and that's what the actual reason why they are preventing players to play outside after signing the contract, they are protecting their investment as we all know how much they are paying for those players just to play and contribute for the team, and once those players got injured, it will impacted to the performances of the whole team for the entire season. Those players who are involved in this current issue are not just a practice players but part of the rotations where they can really give something for the team. If more players will do the same and worse things happen, then it will really affect the league, as what you said better to revise the rules and not just for the organization but also with how teams will implement the rules to make sure if there're newcomers or rising stars that will play for them, they will not repeat that same mistake.

It has already become a major problem, so it's timely to revise the rules and impose more serious sanctions on players who violate their agreement. The PBA should still be considered as the biggest basketball league in the Philippines, and although I'm in favor of revising the penalties or sanctions, I think they should also consider the salaries of the players and ensure that they remain competitive with the current standard.

Yes and the management of thier respective teams will do this rules and like what you said above it has a big impact if those players and especially those star players in different team's have thier contract and play outside the PBA which is once they got injured the team was face struggles and the management want to win but one of thier players got injured so the team didn't win the match which is management got angry so these rules was implemented because of security of the management and the player.

Not changing my position on how I take the added restrictions or the changes with the rules making it more heavy to make sure that the players will not be tempted to continue playing outside the league as the amount for being penalize is not that much and they can still continue playing with the team that they've originally signed the contracts. But giving weight with your last statement about the salary, I think that's something that PBA needs to address, with the huge amount of money that is being offered for the players to play outside while PBA is still resting, if the salary is really decent enough players will not be tempted to accept playing outside knowing the amount of money that possibly they will lose if PBA and the team will sanction them.

Not sure about the status, but I believed there's already a work-in-progress (or should I say already done and will effectively take effect next season) about raising the salary. Last year, it was proposed that the salary cap for rookies should be raised. This is to encourage rookies to play in the country's professional league instead of foreign leagues. Actually, the rookies are the ones who need to have that adjusted salary and veterans should just be the next in line. Rookies are bound to be a rising star that's why they need to be encouraged to just play in the PBA once and signed up as the draft pick after finishing their college. Personally for me, not a good idea for PBA to just increase the salary cap for veteran players as the league is already not balanced. Raising the salary cap will just increase the firepower of the biggest franchises in the league, SMC, and MVP companies. Imagine with the current salary cap, these companies can easily catch big fish thru trades regardless if it's fair trade or not.

Not every player is valuable to the team, and it depends on how useful they are. Quiñahan may have already passed his prime, so the team found a way to terminate his contract. This serves as a lesson for players who are not as valuable to the team that they should avoid making mistakes that they may regret in the end. Now, this opens up an opportunity for younger players who can contribute to the team. NLEX has not been a playoff team, so they need to improve, especially on their defense.

I saw that there were multiple players who were fined for playing outside the league and that's just how it is because they are already on contract and maybe they think they will just get away with it because since then, they were doing this and nothing has happened but right now, the PBA has chosen to tight the rules and become strict because they have all the power to do so and that's really a good idea because those players are in total advantage when they play against those amateurs opponents and surely give them hard time but after this incident, they will back to playing with their old competitors which are in their levels.

Nope, it's not about him being valuable to the team or not. But it was his action for being terminated and it's not just him that did a violation about playing for another tournament. It's indicated on the article as to why he's terminated. Pass prime or not, that doesn't really matter if there's a contract and the management can't just terminate a contract if that's the reason. But the reason of termination is not really tolerable as said in the article.

The Gilas Pilipinas is now ready in action for their debut game on the 32nd South East Asian games on Tuesday led by the first PBA import to be naturalized for the Philippine National Basketball Team, Justin Brownlee. He mentioned after losing his first PBA finals that he will do his best to help the nationals take back the gold medal at SEA Games basketball after the embarrassing loss against the underdog Indonesia last year.
Team Captain: Chris Ross
Official 12-man roster: CJ Perez, Chris Ross, Marcio Lassiter, Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, Calvin Oftana, Christian Standhardinger, Chris Newsome, Arvin Tolentino, Mason Amos, Michael Philips, Jerom Lastimosa
Alternate: Aaron Black, Ben Philips
Out: Jeremiah Gray (injury)
SEA Games basketball is supposed to be just a tune-up game for the Gilas. With Justin Brownlee on board, I'm expecting a clean record for the nationals. No way the defending champion Indonesia, if ever they will meet Gilas again at the Finals, will have a 2-winning streak against the Philippines.

Gilas needs to regain the glory after that last sea games, with Brownlee the chance of winning the gold is very possible and like what you observed this league with serve as a tune up game for the team while preparing for a tougher competition. I like to see the players building good chemistries and will take this as a good exposure not individually but a good squad who representing the country.

Sad to say that I don't feel that there are going to be some good matches with them. But I hope that they'll break my expectation although I'm not that important but I just see that many other basketball loving fans in our country have shown dismay because other teams have greater roster and maximized the ruling of Sea games to have better roster update. Hopefully, they'll conquer this tournament and also be more prepared for the upcoming one which is the FIBA world cup.

What time is the Gilas game today? I checked my bookie, but I couldn't find a specific game for today.
Does anyone know which bookies are offering betting odds for the games today? Or has the game already ended? I just want to place a small bet to enjoy watching the game in case it hasn't started yet.

I think this is the game you are talking. https://www.facebook.com/SMARTSportsPhilippines/photos/a.282090748474442/7137615099588605/I believe Gilas already had their first win, but their biggest opponent in this tournament is likely the host country, as they have a lot of naturalized players. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to watch the game, but I'm planning to watch the highlights to see how the Philippines dominated Malaysia.

I wasn't able to watch their game but congrats to them. It's true that there are still some problems that they need to face with their matches against other countries. They've maxed out the ruling of having 3 naturalized players while the Gilas, only have one. Hopefully that they're proving everything to everyone that's doubting them to have a bad finish in this tournament. Because they're not open to changes and the management, SBP isn't willing to adopt these rulings even if it's allowed. We want all the best for the team but they can't blame their fans if the majority aren't expecting that much. Yes, there's the support but we should expect the unexpected thus, they'll prove everyone that we're wrong about our expectations.

Whatever happens for sure there are critics that will speak out of their opinions, we know how Pinoy fans have their own different views and perspectives but I like that statement and views that you open, it's should be the managements who adjust from the rules as before the sea games it's already been suggested and it is our national team who should adjust and adopt to compete well and bring the dominance back to our country. But likewise, there are supporters and there are critics, so from that we will just need to wait whether our National will win the gold or they will lose because of that new rules where the host country really adopts and maximizes their potentials.

What are the new rules? Is it true that they can now recruit as many naturalized players as they want? If that is the case, they would surely have an edge in this competition. However, the Gilas Pilipinas team is not a team that should be underestimated. They can still win the gold medal with the current lineup, so what's important now is that we continue to support them. Here are the schedules of our team: https://sports.inquirer.net/507998/schedule-gilas-pilipinas-at-sea-games-2023-basketball.

I cannot find the betting odds for tonight's game based on the schedule you shared above. The bookie I checked only displays odds for the women's division. According to the schedule, it is the Philippines versus Cambodia tonight at 6:00 PM. Please help me check the bookies from time to time and share when the odds are out.

Sure, I will bet on this game too because I'm excited about it. I hope the report isn't false because we don't want to anticipate an event that won't happen. The Philippines versus the host country; this is going to be a great game for sure. With Brownlee leading the team, I'm confident that they will handle the host country's team. I did some quick research, and this is what I found: https://stake.com/sports/basketball/international/sea-games/43570437-philippines-cambodiaThe Philippines are favored by 18.5 points. It's not fun since we already know which team will win.
