I just saw a TikTok video of Mr. Ramon Ang being interviewed by Anthony Taberna. In the interview, Mr. Ang mentioned that his company is spending at least 1 billion pesos a year on their teams in the NBA. It seems that these teams aren't making a profit, but they can't remove them because it would upset the public. He also pointed out that the Bay Area Dragons vs. Ginebra Game 7 Finals had more attendance from fans compared to the opening of the FIBA WC or the first game of Gilas Pilipinas.

What are your thoughts on this? Is he telling the truth that these teams aren't making money? And what should the league do to make every team profitable?

IMHO, Boss Ramon Ang was telling the truth but the teams were already there so he had no choice but to continue what others before him (Danding Cojuangco) have form. Money is not an issue I think at their level because if you have a team on the PBA, your taxes will be adjusted so i think something is coming to the pocket of the owners.

I also saw that interview and was amazed at how Boss RSA lived a simple life.

But if they aren't making money with their teams, I think it's essential for them to consider a long-term solution. In my humble opinion, I believe they should revamp the rules system of the PBA, perhaps by starting to phase out farm teams. Even Helterbrand, who played for Ginebra before retirement, suggests eliminating farm teams.

I was also inspired by his interview about living a simple life. He stated that he wants to become rich because he wants to help people, primarily by creating jobs and engaging in charitable activities. However, business is business, and I agree with your point that this team might not last long if they continue to operate at a loss, which isn't good for any businessman.

Regarding Helterbrand, yes, he is a popular player, and his remarks are true. Even within the basketball community, there's awareness about farm teams, and it doesn't present a good image. Especially considering that people now have other options like the MPBL and NBA, with various sources to watch other leagues, the PBA should seriously consider improving their league. The world is progressing, and they should keep up.

Just let Pido all the job for him. LOL. I wasn't surprised that he'll get in to PBA and I was thinking that it's gonna be any team from the league because of what he's got in the issue before. That's a plus factor for him because that seem to be what PBA today is.

What a coincidence but I've just watched some cut parts of it. NBA? Maybe you mean PBA mate. Anyway, about the spending and funding for their teams, that's certainly a lot of money and I think whether they earn from it or not what matters to them is they have become a household name. I think that he's not lying, he's one of the tycoons in our country so it make no sense for him to lie. Running a franchise in the PBA is really costly and that's why we've seen some teams got out of it.

He's already drafted by the SMB therefore and obviously he will give a live contract, an official contract being a professional PBA player playing at the SMB. It's really good as a rookie to be drafted by one of the giants in the PBA as even though there's a rookie cap, once he shown good performance right away, there's another reward under the table.

Not expecting too much from him since what he did in his Pheno days will be hard to do at the PBA.

The problem is, what companies are willing to put an investment in the PBA?

I agree with you that the system should be changed but SMB, as a big foundation that made PBA where it is now, might not allow their counter companies to join the league. Even if they opened up an expansion, maybe only a few companies will be allowed to join and that needs big money to enter the PBA.

Farm teams were being called farm teams because they don't have the capability to keep the considered star players on the team for long and big companies like SMC and MVP are those who are only capable of giving that player a good contract after their rookie period. These players will obviously take that big contract instead of staying at these considered farm teams.

IMHO, it's better if a weak team has taken him so that he can showcase more of himself and have more playing. Well, no doubt that SMB is a good team but there are a lot of good players there already and in the same position as his. Whilst if he's been picked by a weaker team, it's more exposure and better improvement for him to be there. But as we're saying, it's better to get drafted than not.

Yeah, it will be harder on PBA as there are other better players than him, and they have proven themselves. But I guess once he's given the chance, he should take that seriously and make fewer mistakes. And again, the farm team has got it, Terrafirma and then won't be surprising that the time will come that the 1st pick will be traded again to SMB, TNT or Ginebra.

Speaking of Ginebra, Ahanmizi has been taken by them with a three-year deal.

I do hope that he will be given a contract and playing minutes but knowing SMB on how they treat their rookies in the past who mostly were benched until traded but still hoping that Kyt will excel and surpass the talent of TR7 and CJ Perez which for me is the spot he will be playing.

I observed that Rain or Shine has picked several bigs which I think is the way to go as seldom we can see a pool of draftees with height like last night's draft. ROS may have prepared for the retirement of Belga or he might be traded for some guard.

Since we've been invested into our national basketball team, they should give all the support that they can give to it and allow as many players as they can and those who are willing to commit to play for our nation team. But it seems that's not the case and many are avoiding it because of the politics that's happening on it from time to time. I have no info with who are those 8 players kabayan but it seems Abueva is out, I've just relied on their post but it seems genuine. There were some comments that there should be a 60 pool of players but Chot failed to submit that or whoever accepted that proposal didn't approve it.

There is really no issue with the players because the majority of them are willing to play for our country. But the issue here is the higher-ups and whoever is handling the team and has a different interest for the team. It's just sad that the other leagues and Asian teams are excelling when it's PBA and our country have been so good all over these years but we're now seeing the downfall of it.

He didn't receive many minutes during the FIBA World Cup, but I think that's already an indication that he is really good defensively in a game that is very physical, as we know international games can be. CJ Perez needs to improve his defense; he is still young, and I believe there's plenty of time to develop his skills. I'm glad Pogoy was added because, despite some fans not liking him and calling him 'baldog,' he was very consistent during the World Cup.

It was the typical Gilas that we've seen in the FIBA world cup and it's actually an interesting pool but I don't know why this has to happen that we're now problematic with the roster prior to Asiad. It is also notable that Onyeka Okongwu from Atlanta Hawks was on the list so it's most likely that he should be there being the naturalized guy. Interesting list but we're falling short of players. I even thought that the presscon a while ago was all about pulling out to the Asiad.

Dude, that's like a roster that's hard to beat, and as usual, they really do. As the concern goes with KYT, it's a good spot that he's with them since we can't alter or undo anymore what has happened. While it's such an inspiration for KYT to be with his idol. I am sure that he's also going to have that momentum with them. They won't take him for nothing right? and as the other teams have passed for the draft, they're for sure just going to look forward to trade some of their players in their roster for the newer ones after a year or two.

That's true; you can find YouTube videos from our very own vloggers, and the topic of discussion often revolves around these two players. It's not just about these two, but since they are the popular players, the spotlight is on them. I share your disappointment upon hearing the news. I was looking forward to seeing Romeo's last dance with Gilas, but this unfortunate development dashed our expectations.
