Have you guys read the article from Spin.Ph which said that the PBA is planning to expand and per report they could go as high as 16 teams, but what about those franchise that were rumored that were up for sale hehe. On the other hand this news is music to the ears to those players who were displaced every year because of rookie drafting and good news also for those kids that wanting to be part of the PBA someday.
Or maybe the PBA have felt the effect of MPBL unto them that is why this plan was conceived.
This is a positive step; they really need to change the system within because it's no longer viable for the fans. If they want to retain their fanbase, a significant improvement is necessary, and this could be it. One additional point I would like to add is the hope that they will not permit a single company to own more than one team. This way, we can ensure that games are played fairly, eliminating any instances of 'bigayan,' as they say.

What's the purpose of having 16 teams if owners like MVP and Cojuangco each possess 5 teams? This would undoubtedly lead to evident manipulation, potentially relegating the other teams to mere farm teams. Such a scenario would be uninteresting and fail to attract fans. Thus, Kabayan, I appreciate your suggestion, and I sincerely hope that the PBA management isn't under the control of these two team owners, enabling them to make impartial decisions.

I don't know Kabayan if you are still convinced that these two giant corporations are not controlling the management of PBA, we seen how things happen especially those trades that take place, what both SMC and MVP wants will surely happen, so even PBA will add more teams around the league there's still a doubt that both SMC and MVP will continue to dominate the league,. Without proper management from PBA governors, the league will continue to lose their fans and supporters.

Without proper management from PBA governors, the league will continue to lose their fans and supporters.
This poses a significant question: if the PBA governors can be influenced by these two giants, then the PBA isn't ensuring a clean and fair competition. The dominance of SMB and MVP teams will probably continue, which can be discouraging for other team owners. This dominance might extend to referees potentially showing bias as well. One potential solution could be for MVP and SMB to consider selling some of their teams, leaving only one team each. This might entice other team owners or aspiring owners to join and be part of the 16 teams.

We heard a lot of rumors about game fixing but PBA managements are good in killing the issues. Now that they are planning to add more teams/franchise, it will be a good in terms of numbers of games but the outcome in the interest of fans, it will be still questionable.

The good catch here is when MPBL gained attentions from big companies and start to support teams, something that may offer a good amount of money to each player who deserves the contracts, for now, players still aiming to enter to PBA because of that hope for easy access to earn a huge amount of money, it's no longer for the love and passion for the sport itself but more on the money, not generalising but thinking as being practical and in the sense of new rising stars to sign overseas contracts for the sake of making more money instead of staying in our own country to entertain the fans, something that PBA needs to address if they wanted to stay strong for the next couple of years.

I just hope that the dominance of PBA will soon be gone and newer and better leagues will also adhere and replace it. The politics on PBA is at its finest and even the national team is affected with that. I think it should be from the roots coming from SBP and PSC so that those dominance of teams, doing farm on other teams will also be stopped. There are better formats which is shown by the MPBL that represents places to places and this gives the NBA vibes. Unlike in PBA, it's more really in the business franchise and if it is not for having the record of the oldest basketball league in Asia, it wouldn't be there anymore. Look at the other foreign leagues, they're upgrading and not sticking to the old method and policies to their leagues. So without a doubt that MPBL is a huge threat to them and people are already hearing the league's name and its popularity is widely increasing.

With the same vibes I mean with giving each places to represent their talents MPBL may gather more attentions, like what I mentioned before if there's already decent amount of fans who will going to support this league, for sure ads will flow and sponsorship will also come up I guess it was the intention why Pacman is really eager to make a good reputation for this league he wanted to change the game, change that will bring talents and not just about money but some pride in representing your origins.

If the league will be properly manage and well marketed for sure sponsors will come to them knowing that they will be promoted on each cities which those teams represented. For sure sponsors will think about how far they would reach with that set up. PBA is losing fans attention due to politics and unfair situations so MPBL should take advantage on the downside of PBA so that their league became more famous to basketball fans.

I'm an avid fan of MPBL and following the league since then. It's really no doubt gaining popularity since their inception but guys, don't make it a big hype to the point that it might replace PBA. It won't happen, believe me, even if it will be backed by strong companies. The tickets here are being given free in most cases that's why we always see a jampacked crowd at every game. If there's a price, the ticket price is really cheap. If MPBL games will be held in some big arenas like Smart Araneta or MOA Arena, etc. expect only a few live audiences and won't bother to spend money on purchasing tickets. And surely a worst to expect if we talk about having a game in PH Arena. Soon over, when MPBL will almost reach the popularity of PBA, hitting revenues the same as PBA, the same politics we do see in PBA will also rise here especially since there are now big companies involved in the league. See what will happen next? The cycle will just repeat. PBA still has lots of fans especially Ginebra fans that can fill big venues without a doubt. They just need to clean those sh*ts and open the possibility of expansion without being influenced by giant companies like San Miguel.

If that would be the scenario then it would be like just like the PBA, unless if the Smart Araneta Coliseum is the homecourt of one team then i think it can drew more crowds which is match better than the PBA, i think. The owner of Blackwater has proposed that PBA games will be held in a home-away format, following i think the format of the MPBL nd the defunct MBA but i don't think they can sustain the logistics in doing so as it is very costly to move a team to another island that is why MBA was short-lived. The PBA will stay as is, only this time more teams but still MVP and SMC companies will have influence on the new teams, that's for sure.

There's no doubt that the PBA has greater resources, but if they ignore the critics, I don't anticipate them maintaining their top position in the future. Although the MPBL might not be on the same scale as the PBA, with increasing supporters and investors, they could potentially evolve into a significant league. Sponsors play a vital role, and in today's age, broadcasting their games is not a challenge, ensuring widespread awareness. While it's a journey from the outset, I wouldn't underestimate the league's potential, given the strides they've already made.

Back to Gilas update, they might release the final 12-pool roster 2 days before the official tip-off game of the country vs. the Dominican Republic on August 25. As per the report, that will be after 3 more tune-up games of Gilas before the FIBA World Cup. Those 3 games will be the final testing phase of who will be chosen as the final 12.
Currently, the pool is consisting of 16 players. Who do you think will be left out of that 16 pool?
If I will give my guess, the 4 players for me that somehow should be left out are:
- Kiefer Ravena (lots of guards already) - Thirdy Ravena (not that athletic and versatile) - Calvin Oftana (not being used that much so don't know how can he blend well to the team) - undecided

I've read an article where Quinito Henson has picked Kiefer Ravena over Rhenz Abando, does this affect the selection process hehe. I don't know what's with Keifer that he picked him over the high leaper and defensive specialist Abando, Kiefer has already been tested but not much good result which i think it;s time for him to retire from Gilas duties. That undecided of yours could be between Pogoy and Parks. Speaking of tune-up on August 18, does anyone knows where to bet, have not seens any odds on my favorite bookies.

As for the rest, I think they are suitable representatives for our country. I just want to ensure that the fans' voices are heard; they want to see Rhenz Abando representing his country due to his significant effort in defense and even rebounding the ball. What we truly need is energy, so having some dynamic players who are also team players is essential. Speaking of tune-up on August 18, does anyone knows where to bet, have not seens any odds on my favorite bookies. Let's wait for 1 day before the game. Do you have any information regarding their opponents in the upcoming tune-up games?

Not being rude but if both Kiefer and Thirdy don't deserve the position it's been a while since most of the fans are criticizing how chot pick his players and how these two bros continue to get that position even there are more deserving players that can really help the team, if they Kiefer will get that position and Abando will be remove then so be it, chot can manage that and we know how the management will support him with his decisions. Whatever it is for Gilas, the show should continue and support from the nation will be there whoever the players will be. We know how we great the fans will be in terms of showing love and support to the National squad.

Speaking of tune-up on August 18, does anyone knows where to bet, have not seens any odds on my favorite bookies. Let's wait for 1 day before the game. Do you have any information regarding their opponents in the upcoming tune-up games? Below are the schedules of the tune-up/friendly games of Gilas in which after these games, the final 12 will be selected so everybody must do their best to be included in the final 12. August 18 against Ivory Coast August 20 against Monte Negro August 21 against MexicoThe game against Mexico I think is for Gilas to be acquainted with the South American style of basketball.

Are these teams also participating in the FIBA World Cup? I can't seem to find Ivory Coast on the list, So, I would also like to know whether they are part of it or if we are discussing other teams here. Regarding the betting odds, I'm quite certain they will be available 24 hours before the fight, as this is part of a significant event (even though they are friendlies). Many fans will be watching this.

Sure that many will be watching these friendly games as this will be the first time that Jordan Clarkson and Kai Sotto will be playing and I think they can beat two of the three so I'm intrigued by how the bookies look at these games.
