Change in hands, from MVP to SMC hahaha.. what we will going to expect, another business matter? Hoping it' for the betterment of the national squad and not just for the business behind, though it's too early to judge things out, for me if it's for the betterment I won't mind if this takeover take place, I like coach Tim and with the big influence of Al Francis Chua, it will be an easy negotiation with players/target prospect to deal with.

First stop, ASEAN game if this newly form squad wins, it's better to keep the players and continue to work out with practices that will establish good blends among them.

If all is for the benefits of the country, for sure they will stay and they will dedicate their time for good improvement of the program.

Change of hands indeed, they used to call our Philippine team as Smart Gilas but they removed the word "Smart" as it is the national team and not a team solely owned by MVP hehe.

But I'm sure that Boss RSA's goal here to give Gilas a fighting chance in the Asian Games, not just to represent but the objective is to be on the podium that is why they changed the roster that was first released and the good addition to the lineup is the inclusion of Mikey Williams, a good scorer that can complement the scoring of JB.

Mikey Williams is a good player yes adding him in a lineup is a plus advantage to us we are all know the ability of Mikey Williams he can assist Justin brownlee and the rest of the team cause he is a good scorrer and not just a good scorrer also a tough defender so  gilas  has a strong lineup for now and for sure they can compete to other countries. And the only thing they need is a good plan and play so that they can win.

That's the sad truth that we're seeing for our national team, the interest is no longer for the national but just for the interest and benefit of the few people that are sitting on that throne. Anyway, we've got some new news about Tim Cone and Justine Baltazar and it was coach Tim apologized to Balti for the quick remarks that he did that Balti doesn't want to play for the national team. See, I don't hate coach Tim but it seems that the style of remarks and early statements of Chot/SBP was passed down on him.

Since it will be SMC taking over the business, will we see Romeo again?

I mentioned his name because I've seen some Facebook posts praising his performance in the FIBA games before, and some commenters mentioned that Romeo would be a good fit as a point guard. Although he loves to hold the ball longer in his hands, he can generate points on his own, unlike the point guards who were chosen to represent the team this year who are afraid to shoot the ball. I've also seen highlights of Romeo, and I can say I agree with the comments. At the same time, I realize that politics have played a big role in FIBA, as despite Romeo's stellar performance in international games, he wasn't chosen to be part of the roster.

I believe it's not politics but Terence Romeo is not fit to play in the international stage this year.

If I remember it right and anyone can correct me on this, even back in the Gilas' window games in this year's FIBA World Cup, he is sidelined because of his injury. He missed lots of games in the San Miguel Beermen during the previous conference or if not missed, only plays limited minutes especially on what we see on his playing time in the PBA On-Tour.

Anyways, just curious here bro, who among those point guards you are referring to that's afraid to shoot?

But honestly, I haven't heard his name in the conversation to be part of the national team. There are some injured players, but they are still considered. I think Romeo wasn't injured all the time; there were times when he was capable of playing. Well, this is just an observation; I could be wrong though. Based on what I've noticed, Coach Chot doesn't seem to favor SMB players.

Anyways, just curious here bro, who among those point guards you are referring to that's afraid to shoot?

Maybe not all of them are literally afraid to shoot, but they lack the capability to generate points unlike Romeo and Castro, who can really be trusted in tough situations. I just find the old Gilas more exciting to watch than the current, and that was under the coaching job of Coach Tab.

Yes, for me coach Tim will be enough in case super coach Chot will be true to his words that he will let go the post, I mean coach Tab is coach Tab and his contributions to the development of young generations really bring great outcome to the players, though his greatness is just wasted by the fact that super coach Chot can easily manipulate as he's the golden son of the SBP, hahaha just kidding but hopefully just still hoping for the best for our nationals and for the future development of this program.

For coach Tab, wherever he is, I believe that he respects the management and he will continue to be an inspiration to those who manage to work and play with him.

Coach Chot Reyes and assistant coach Tim Cone will still be the official coach and assistant coach this coming Asian Games as their names were submitted by the POC before July 25, the deadline for the roster's submission, and whomever they put on the roster will be the official players and coaches so coach Chot Reyes is not yet officially retired from Gilas coaching job.

What's up with his statement that he stepped aside after the game against China? Does it mean he will still be part of the coaching staff but not as the head coach? If that's the scenario, I don't find it helpful, as the old system might still be in use, and it's possible he could still influence the head coach's decisions in practice. I don't understand it; please enlighten me if you know.
Their win against China is speaking that Gillas has a chance to win every game if theres an teamwork and good coaching staff then for sure we can compete to other country. And about coach can't Reyes the good decision he made is that he is not focusing on Jordan Clarkson to carry the team and like in that game, Other player has a chance to shows who they are in the court like abundo he is very good player and he shows to us in their game against China.

            -   Honestly speaking, I don't like coach Reyes' strategy of ignoring the talent of other players such as Rex Abando and Fajardo.
That's why he was bashed by most Filipino supporters. Then the thing I hate the most that he said is that it is not necessary to win,  that's why his reason is so stupid.

If I'm one of the Gilas players, then I'll hear from the coach, What's the point of enduring the hardships of the training we went through? The honor of our country is being talked about if winning is not important to him. So he should be replaced as a coach since he has always been the one who has lost our country with the way he treats the elite players.

So he should be replaced as a coach since he has always been the one who has lost our country with the way he treats the elite players.

Well, in fairness though to Coach Chot, he did already bring a good improvement on the history of the National Team competing globally.

However, it's just that his current system is not applicable anymore to the current generation of Gilas. There are only a few players left in the current Gilas pool that he handled long during his prime coaching years as a National Head Coach, to name a few, JuneMar Fajardo, Japeth Aguilar, etc. Obviously, he should make some changes and shift some of his strategies from old to new since he is handling a different set of players now compared to several years before.

I am also not in favor that Coach Chot should still continue his position as a national head coach but still, we should thank Coach Chot for his overall contribution and the good changes he made in the National team since his inception as a head coach. Coach Tim Cone will now be the coach of Gilas in the upcoming ASIAN Games but the question is, it is long-term? Let's see.

I want to point that out just in case that coach Tim will consider him, he loves handling the ball and create his shots, something that is missing during that last FIBA run, If coach Tim and the management will call him and ask for his service I'm pretty sure he will accept it right away, just for my opinion since TR7 is also part of SMC maybe that consideration can be taken out.

Let's see if there's an update that may take place regarding to what coach Tim will bring to his squad.

Since there is no limit for naturalized players, I do hope that they will include CStand in the lineup to add more muscle in the front court and also Justine Baltazar, hope the issue with him and the Gilas coaching staff will be resolved and he could be in Gilas as this kid is very promising and he adds ceiling to this roster also.

Since this is only the Asian Games, I do think that this current pool is competitive enough sans injuries on the core like Junemar Fajardo and Justine Brownlee.

Calvin Abueva and Terrence Romeo are back, and both have played well in the past, so hopefully, they can still contribute significantly to the team's success. With Justin Brownlee, I think the ball movement will be better, as the style of play will not be the same as when JC was their import.

We have players here who I think can generate points on their own. I believe Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle would be a big help for Justin Brownlee.

Personally, I'm excited to watch the tournament, and based on my research, it will start on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 8:00 PM and run until Sunday, October 8, 2023.

Though they are smaller compared to the last squad, I hope the scoring capabilities of the players will give them the win, TR7 and Abueva brings good boost when they are inside the floor, I believe that coach Tim call them to help and bring that interest back to Gilas, not saying that they are superstars but I hope that same impact with both the floor and the fans adds up to the hype of the National team.

Looking forward to see them performing and hopefully they will manage to continue and represent our country if possible to reach the olympics.

Not sure why CStand is not in the lineup as for me he's really good protector /defender inside, plus his connection with Junemar, Mo' and TR7 really adds up for the team, same faces with JBL administering them, it's something that we as fans will enjoy the Asian Games. Like you, I'm also in that same thinking that this squad would be enough to bring pride for our country.

Maybe CStand is on vacation in Germany that's why he is not included in the pool but I think that the recently released line-up will change a bit because i have read an article that they will invite Justine Baltazar, an agile big man who could also help Fajardo on the boards since AJ Edu is not available. I prefer to have Balatazar in the squad rather that Mo Tautua, who is for me not fit in an international kind of play.

Is this the player that Tim Cone said was not interested in playing for the country? Because if this is the one, I think he should be given a chance. Tim Cone made bad remarks about him, and it's only fair to include him as he is a great player. He could be very useful for the team since he is still young and in his prime. I trust Tim Cone's judgment in choosing the roster that will represent the country, so I won't question who the players he will add are; I'll just support them.

Yeah, that was him, we can read some article regarding that.

Tim Cone apologizes to Justine Baltazar for ‘hasty remarks’ on Gilas Pilipinas availability

Therefore I think there has been no more issue between them, afterall Tim Cone is the coach and Baltazar is the player, so it's still up to the coach if he will pick Baltazar to be part of the roster. Personally, I'm more excited to see the veterans, particularly Romeo, as I'm sure the team will be entertaining to watch.

The roster of Gilas for the Asian games is truly the typical players that we wanna watch. This is more different from the other one that has participated in the FIBA World Cup. But no offense to them as they are both great rosters and have represented our country in the best that they can. Also, the PBA draft has already happened, did you guys already see the names of the draftees? I have seen a lot of popular names there.
128 players are there and it's really time for PBA to step up and add more teams for them to cater all of these potential talents.

I'm wrong in my speculation that Baltazar will join the Gilas for the Asian Games because per Spin.Ph, coach Tim Cone is not gonna pick this guy at least for this Asian stint because he is not familiar with Baltazar's style of play and they have no more time to adjust therefore the list that was released the other week is final.

For sure we will see Baltazar in a Gilas uniform after this Asian Games, maybe in the FIBA qualifying tournament as he will be part of the pool by that time.

A 6'7 young guy who can play with or without the ball, I think if given a chance again he can be useful knowing how coach Tim drives his players, for this Asian games since preparation is not that long coach Tim and his gang needs to have someone who's he already familiar, and same with how you see it, I guess Baltazar can again join the National when they start the call again, hopefully he keeps on improving and be away from any hard injuries.

By the way, Baltazar skip the PBA draft, not sure for the actual reason, but maybe he still wanted to continue his game playing with his Kapampangan squad.

Perhaps he has other goals. The PBA is no longer the best league where our young talents ultimately dream. I'm sure they will be attracted by the salaries offered by overseas teams, just like Abando, who achieved success and earned a lot of money. So, if Baltazar believes he can showcase his talent internationally, the PBA may not be needed anymore.

To many speculation regarding on his decision to skip on PBA draft but maybe he just realize that maybe he will go to corporate super teams and sit on the bench. This situation can totally waste his talent so maybe he decide to stay on MPBL and wait better contract like in Japan B-league or in KBL where he can get a better compensation and exposure. Let see if his decision will change and he decide to get draft on PBA next season.
