Benzema scored again and he is really a beast now.    He is 33 now but he is still a very great forward surely. Real Madrid owe him too much this season. I expect Real Madrid to open the gap more in the second half as long as they play like this and win easily.

Real Madrid have definitely qualified and won this match. of his mastery level reaching 80% and watching Bilbao just trying to defend against attack after attack. Until the accuracy of kicks against Bilbao Real Madrid is very superior. If they manage to win, Bilbao will automatically drop their position and be replaced by Espanyol under Barcelona.

I have got nothing to say about Xavi's game for now. it's not yet attractive. Most players are still very inconsistent and they are still displaying the individualistic play. I feel like singing Xavi praise after just three games is like praising someone who just gave you food after starving for days.. Let's wait till February next year, then we shall know how good he is. Barcelona may look like they are back to winning ways, hope this form will be maintained. From what i have seen this Barcelona team is very toothless and blunt. keeping up possession without scoring is a thing of the past. They can only get better, they are truly work in progress.

I would say it is at least a bit more attractive then what they had. I mean surely it is not "attractive" in the sense that they are not dominating everyone all of a sudden but they were a team that lost to almost everyone and they had a very bad start and now they have been playing a bit better.

The attractive part is that they are passing a lot better and they are defending a lot faster as well, those two things are very important in a team that is not greatly over talented, I am sure Barcelona even with a lot of financial trouble would still be able to get a few good players that could change things up and fit Xavi's playstyle better during off-season, for this year all I am expecting from them is to be in champions league entry level by the end of the season, after that the real test for Xavi will come next season. I never judge any manager based on a team they did not build.

A great opportunity for Real Madrid to strengthen their lead. I think that Real Madrid should win today, but the victory is unlikely to be easy and we are unlikely to see many goals - judging by the statistics, Athletic has the best defense in the championship at the moment. They conceded only 10 goals in 14 matches. We can say that today Real will have an exam on the ability to pass a strong defense.

Benzema with his angry from Ballon d'Or will play aggressively in this match and can destroy Bilbao goal. Benzema and Lewandowsky are some of unlucky players who have talent, outstanding performance in their career but because of they are playing in a same era of Ronaldo and Messi, their talent are not rewarded by big personal titles like Ballon d'Or.

Mbappe is different because he is young and he will reach to his best when Messi and Ronaldo will be in last seasons of their career. Mbappe and Haaland will have more chance to win Ballon d'Or than Lewandowski and Benzema but it does not mean that are better players.

As expected, the game was rather difficult and Real won with a minimum score. Benzema proved again that he is able to give results when needed.
I don't think that today he thought much about the Ballon d'Or and that somehow influenced his game. It seems to me that it is better to discuss this topic in a thread specially created for this - there are too many different deep points ;-)

Yes, it is a hope but seems realistic with the current situation in La Liga, right?
Real Madrid players and Ancelotti have done a great job so far, they are leading the table with 7 points ahead of Atletico. While Sevilla and Sociedad seem to decrease their performances, so it is the right time for Real Madrid to make bigger point gaps. With this reality, I believe that the chance for Real Madrid to stay at the top table is very open.

Looks like Xavi is doing some clean up, given how players at the club have been getting injured numerous times. Let wait and see if the player fitness levels will improve.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the club's head of physiotherapy, Juanjo Brau, will quit the club almost 25 years after joining to work with the club's junior system. For the past 18 years, he's been a part of the first-team setup.

Brau was close to a number of Barcelona players over the years, including Lionel Messi.

It was a great performance on the first half they managed to score with those many chances and benzema performance is no new news he is on fire this season but in the second half real madrid team did not risk going to the offensive they let ath bilbao team lead and they almost lost points either way they are still the leaders with a confortable lead.

I think that Atletico Bilbao was rushing things. In the second half where they had a dominant performance, I thought that they could have made one or two more passes before shooting the ball. They had a lot of shots but if they were on target maybe one of them could have ended in the back of the net.

Real Madrid had a quite difficult game yesterday against A. Bilbao. But fortunately, they managed to win 1-0.  A. Bilbao tried everything they could in the second half but it was just in vain. Barcelona's rise in the La Liga continues. Xavi is the best thing happened to Barcelona for now. But I know that it is very early talk about it like this. It has been only two league matches. And they won both of them (vs Espanyol (H): 1-0, vs Villarreal (A): 3-1).  And the next one is against Betis three days later. Betis are one of the strong teams so far. There is a 4-point difference between Betis and Barcelona and Betis are the team ahead. A tough game is waiting for Barcelona but I believe that they will still be winning.

Well i think Barcelona got lucky against Espanyol and lets now see what they can do against a big team such as Betis.Betis has really good quality players and i think they can even win this match.Should be also lots of goals between these two teams.

You think so? To be honest, I don't think that Barcelona got lucky in the Espanyol match. Because they had the control of the match most of the times. A 1-0 score shouldn't be misleading for anyone. They would have scored more than this but they were newly recovering. After some time, I believe that will start seeing again the matches Barcelona score many goals in.

The match stats look interesting. If you look at Madrid's possession of 63% of the ball, it should be impossible for Bilbao to make more shots than Madrid. but very few shots on target from Bilbao. they actively attack even though they are unable to create very dangerous opportunities.
while looking at Madrid's performance in that match I think there should have been more than 1 goal. although they could only make 7 shots on target.
However, Madrid managed to win. and that makes Madrid more solid at the top of the standings.

And they should be taking every opportunity as they cannot really afford to leave out there the points that need to be taken not just from the very weakest of the rivals, but also from mid-table rivals such as the recent Athletic de Bilbao or even some more serious contender like Seville that may very well mark the difference between achieving the title of getting to the point in which you need to win the last three games and hope for someone else to fail. As of now, there seems to be a clear performance line, is just a question of keeping up and resisting.

Therefore I say Bilbao are not lucky enough, because with the opportunities given throughout the second half at least if Bilbao have good luck I believe the end result of the match will be a draw. I just can't wait to watch the next big game in the league: Real Sociedad - Real Madrid. It is a big game as Real Sociedad are also having a marvelous season now. They are at the third place in the table now and there is a gap of seven points between them and R. Madrid. R. Sociedad lost their last game and obtained a draw before that. I think they will do everything they can to win the game. But I see that they weren't able to beat R. Madrid here in the last two games. The most secure option looks like both teams to score for this one.
