Portugal will be sending a very experienced side to Qatar 2022. Apart from Cristiano Ronaldo, they have players such as João Moutinho, Rui Patrício, William Carvalho and Pepe, who have more than a decade of experience in international football (I will be missing Nani BTW). But the difference between Portugal and Italy is that the former is heavily dependent on Ronaldo. Italy doesn't have any such issue, and IMO they have the best team bonding for any side from the UEFA confederation. Anyway, Portugal is lucky. Italy failed to qualify, but Portugal managed to do so.

Yes it could possibly happen in the group stage. But I personally quite believe that Portugal can get through that phase with the players they have now. It is difficult to get the most out of every match that is run, it takes hard work, especially since this is a World Cup where every country wants to get the maximum results possible.

Yes it could possibly happen in the group stage. But I personally quite believe that Portugal can get through that phase with the players they have now. Italy are a really interesting team now. They have a great squad full of very talented players normally but they have still been eliminated by North Macedonia. We are talking about the World Cup in the end and they aren't here. I don't know what went wrong with them but I hope they can return to the next biggest tournament stronger. If they were here now I would see them as one of the favourites to win the title for sure.

Portugal also didn't have the best elimination process maybe but they are here. I'm curious about their performance in the main tournament. This must be Ronaldo's last national tournament as far as I know.

Yeah, that was a last minute attempt to qualify from Chile. Apparently they were wrong.

But if they were right, it would have been Chile the one that qualified, not Italy, because they would have forfeited the points won by Ecuador, and give those to the rivals. After you do all the math, it was Chile who would have ended up in a direct qualifier spot in that group. That was the reason, not just because it was "unfair" to them. So there would have been zero chances for Italy for example, as it was even from another qualifying group.

Yes, you are right, in my personal opinion and comparing with the previous year, almost all countries are filled with equal players. This is a great improvement in football. Even so, there are still many countries that are superior. But it will be more interesting to see them at the same level, it will make a competition that will not be easy to predict.

In the end it's now correct, the hosts start the first match, at 7pm, so fireworks should be fine. Weird that it took literally years for people to realize this.

You hit the nail on the head with your analysis. I never actually had a look at the schedule for the World Cup, but now that I read it in the news and all the reasoning behind it, what the heck have they been doing, and who made that schedule and got it confirmed?

I mean there usually isn't any doubt the host starts the event with a ceremony. I was thinking about whether or not there have been other reasons at play at first? Couldn't come up with potential conclusions really, but believing that it was just a simple mistake in scheduling just seems a bit silly to me. That would never happen.

I would prefer watching the world cup at home or at a bar. They apparently will ban the sale of alcohol in Qatar, and other rules that are not common in the west, so it wouldn't be the same as how I usually watch football.
