First of all, the world championship is not held during the summer but in the winter when the weather conditions in Qatar will be much more favorable.

I wondering how much the difference of the fans when Messi and Ronaldo already retired, I think it does have a big difference. Many fans only watch a club when their favorite player play, although not at all.

Ramos, Suarez, Cavani, Modric, and Benzema also a top players, but they're doesn't have enough popularity than Messi and Ronaldo, so I believe whether they're retire or not, it wouldn't make a change.

Well, the world cup is more than just the 90 minutes in the field.

In July the temperatures in Doha can get up to 40+ degrees, so that's not really nice for all the tourists that will be around the city.

Instead, in November the median temperature is 26, so that makes it an ideal place to visit.

Remember that this is a massive investment and they will want to have some kind of economic return, with people there spending money locally, with a comfortable weather.

And also, it's nice for the fans in the Southern Hemisphere to get to see the world cup closer to summer time there.

Tell me if I am wrong, but I don't think they are pursuing a direct return on investment from the World Cup in Qatar. In my opinion this is much more about sportswashing than it is about making money from tourism. When you are allowed to host an event of such size and importance, it has a lot of influence on how people around the world perceive a country. Qatar is trying to create memories and influence the mind of the global society by presenting themselves as those liberal hosts who want peace and freedom for everyone. Especially for a country that suppresses women and many minorities so hard, an event like the World Cup can have an enormous effect.

We should be careful in believing what we just see with our eyes and instead listen to critical journalism as well.

I know what you are talking about. 2010 World cup, quarter final match between Ghana and Uruguay. But it was very controversial. Suarez made a foul, which prevented Ghanaian player from scoring. He got a red card for that, but the penalty kick was saved by the Uruguay goalkeeper. In the penalty shootout, Uruguay won by 4-2. Suarez attracted a lot of criticism and a lot of people thought that Ghana was robbed of a place in the semi-finals.
