Sportsbet's Bitcointalk World Cup 2022 discussion


The general summary of all the rules can be found in this thread.

A short overview is as follows:

• Cro2 team (Trofo & cryptofrka) will be hosting Bitcointalk's World Cup sponsored by industry leader Sportsbet
• 32 players will be divided into 8 groups – we'll be using the same system as in the actual World Cup
• The points will be collected by answering a questionnaire (to be filled in Google forms before every round)
  It will consist of 10 questions per round that will require some football knowledge to answer
• Total prize pool will be 3500$ in BTC
• The timeline is the same as in the actual World Cup – with competition lasting until the WC final
• There will be 7 rounds in total (3 in the group stages, 1 for R16, QF, SF and final/3rd place)
• To participate in the round, the player has to play a 0,5 mBTC ticket on Sportsbet before the start of that round.
• Rank Member and higher can participate, with Trofo and cryptofrka excluded from the competition
• The registration will be on a FCFS principle, if we will have more than 32 players we will keep them in reserve in case that some people fail to participate in the 1st round.
  After the 1st round is complete, the registrations will be fully closed

This thread is intended for all the discussion regarding the competition. If you don't understand some of the rules, ask here. Later on when the competition starts come here to gloat over your defeated opponents, you know the drill

• 0.5mbtc or equivalent, right? Or it has to be BTC bets?
• What's the approx time for answering questions? In other words, how able will people be able to Google answers, haha. I prefer really fast rounds so no one has Google advantage
• Just curious but is it football team+player knowledge or general World Cup trivia? e.g., will it be "Better xg stats, Ronaldo or Messi?" or "Who was the mascot in World Cup 98"... I'll suck at both but may have a better chance if it's more general knowledge rather than obscure trivia.

I think 0.5 mBTC  equivalent can be ok. Important thing is that you play the ticket on Sportsbet. Good question and I believe we will change that bit in the rules. Especially now when Sportsbet has binance promo would be stupid the make the restrictions.

I thought about time factor, not sure it will get implemented though. Not so important since all the questions will be in regard to upcoming games, google will be able to help with some stuff for sure but we will try to make them in a way where person who actually watches National football has the maximum advantage. Hope that covers it all.

I registered to participate in this competition, but I am not sure I will be active in all rounds, and I am not exactly thrilled with answering questionnaire in google form all the time.
We talked about World Cup competition and I hoped more we are going to have some form of result predictions for matches, and I don't know anything about many national teams participating in this World Cup.

That means anyone who makes it to the final must have spent around 3.5mBTC? Because each player can only play seven games in a world cup competition. 3 games in the group stage, R16, Quarter, Semi, and Final (7 games x 0.5= 3.5mBTC) correct?

Whoever fails to place a bet is disqualified in each round, right?

Is this a question about individual players or about the team? What platforms are we using for this quiz pool?

I was expecting a World Cup prediction pool, but this sounds cool with a few limitations if you ask me. I've reserved a spot and hope to be a part of this if I'm still breathing during the World Cup. Life stinks.

That's something new, I'm interested to try. It will be interesting how it will work. As I understand, we have to answer questions before each round in Google forms and then you with Trofo will manually count results. World Cup will have very intensive calendar with 4 group games played each day and some games will start quite early. So, there won't be that much time to fill questions. And it require a bit more time than making score predictions on Superbru . But prize pot is worth efforts.
Anyway, I still would like to play classic pool where we predict scores on Superbru (or kicktipp). I already can't imagine big football tournament without it .

There will be regular pool and it will be sponsored, don't worry. This is just cherry on top.

10 questions per match day, there is 8 groups so every round will probably last 4 days. We will take care to carefully choose games and always leave you at least a day to put the results in. Probably even 2 since we can post new bunch before round ends if necessary.

Why look at it as spending 3.5 mBTC. I guess you should be able to win most of those bets and this competition is intended for active bettors that should actually play much more than that and then requirement can be seen as just sharing one of your tickets. Places are limited so apply as soon as possible and then drop out if necessary.

Well you can always join the pool and not this one. That will be regular result predictions.

As I said above you will have at least 24 hours to enter predictions for each round. Probably even more but 24 hours for sure. That way time zones should not matter. You will not be able to see each other picks before the round starts. We will make them public only after entries are closed.

And you are answering 10 questions for whole match day not for each match. So first match day will have 16 games over 5 days I think and you will answer in total 10 questions for that whole bunch. Don't worry, there will be time to do it and it won't be too much work.

There will be a prediction pool as well, but for that one we'll pay the entrance fee as usual.
This one is extra, the only requirement is to place approximately a 10$ bet per every round during the World Cup.

The idea behind this is exactly to make you more interested in football in general, and the questions are supposed to make you research a bit how the teams play and who are their main players.
For some that will be boring because they are not much into football, but for those that are I hope we'll make it really interesting.

There are no yellow caps here, the rewards will be Bitcoin to personal wallets - no free bets or anything similar.

Regarding the time element - you will have plenty of time to submit answers for each round (day or 2 before every round for sure). The questions will be something you can't really Google, because all questions will be about the games that will happen. Google will be able to help you make a better guess - because the players with better knowledge of how the teams play will have better odds of guessing.

I checked that thread and saw that this is something different so I am opting out of here and will definitely join the World Cup pool.I am not comfortable playing any other type of game,I love the Superbru app and their way of scoring,I am also a Premium Member there and I don't like new things (that is just me,I am a classic).

There will be other promos on Sportsbet site, at least world cup fantasy, this contest is envisioned for bitcointalk members, rank requirements are here to stop people absuing multi accounts.

I will not answer you with yes or no at this time, leave your application and if there is space I belive you guys from Clubhouse Chat will be inclueded but if we have more than enough legit application...then you are out of luck.

Thanks for the answers Trofo, yeah am really looking forward to a new format, different areas of expertise to compete in and I actually believe we may see a different set of winning bastards.

Personally, I think I know less about national teams than club, but sometimes that can work against you. How many times have we seen world cup heroes come from club flops, right? (That's rhetorical).

Also look forward to seeing Clubtalk peeps come to bitcointalk. Saw a bit of interest in chat there last night!
