Why end of this year? when is next update please devs some more transparency theres very little regards to any deadlines or commitments to long term holders in terms of transparency of how close MAID is to being full tangible and as described in roadmap.

Thank u

The MaidsSafe devs are not on this forum and this is not an official topic made by MaidSafe (I was told by MaidSafe's Nick Lambert). I guess some community member started this topic one day.

But to answer your questions;

there's no official date for Alpha 2 or Alpha 3 or BETA. That's because it's hard to predict these things. They might say "we'll release Alpha 2 in 2 weeks" but when some bug or a security issue shows up they might need
4 weeks to fix it, and even that's hard to predict  Cheesy. Just look at all the cryptoprojects out there, how many delivered on time? How many of them deliver a nice GUI for Windows, Mac and Linux??

So MaidSafe is quite honest, they say: we'll deliver stuff when it's done and tested.

So make sure to follow the weekly updates here:

https://safenetforum.org/c/development/updates

David Irvine talked about the idea to launch Alpha 2 for forum members only, but that's not clear at the moment.

https://safenetforum.org/t/maidsafe-dev-update-july-20-2017/14917/12

As Safecoin is not implemented an attacker could create a script that makes unlimited accounts and fills up the network. So that's why they've made some protection against that. It's not as easy as delivering the binaries and let everyone connect. Some protection (invitation tokens) is needed at the moment.

I'm on TEST 17 (which will become Alpha 2) at the moment and it works quite well. I'm not testing all the mutable data features so I don't know if stuff still needs to be done there. Overall I would say that Alpha 2 isn't like 2 months away or something, should be here in the coming weeks.

They are developing maid for years. That's too boring... I suspect they will never end it.

MaidSafe should be renamed to MaidSafe Forever  Cool like in Duke Nukem Forever (took them forever to finish it and ended with 3D Realms going bankrupt Tongue )

Maidsafe coins (MAID) is traded over the OMNI-protocol. You might wanna use OMNI Wallet or a cold BTC Wallet. Make sure to always be owner of the private key.

TL;DR  TEST 17 is now open to 2000 forum members, not that much iterations needed before we'll see Alpha 2.

I dont think the price will move much until we see some proper release version from the dev team. Its also susceptible to the August 1 bitcoin happenings, just like any other alt coin.

StorJ, Siacoin and Filecoin all have the same goals in some sort of way. They want to provide an alternative to Dropbox and Google Drive etc.

SAFE tries to reach that goal as well but is also focused on online identities and websites. So all onion-sites on TOR could switch quite easily to SAFE and never worry about a
hidden server somewhere. I guess it's like 10 times more secure to have a website on SAFE than on TOR. But people will still use TOR to surf the regular internet. So all these projects can live next to each other.

So someone asked me if govt can ban TOR- The problem with Tor is that a. exit nodes can sniff unencrypted clearnet traffic, b. it depends on centralized servers in the same way as clearnet. Technically it's very hard or almost impossible to find these hidden servers, but they can be shut down. SAFE is different in not having a single point of failure or a concept of exit nodes - all traffic is encrypted and all data stored on the network is encrypted too (if it's not made public by a user specifically). So I'd say it can be even more secure than Tor in a way.

Yeah, this is true. But SAFE won't connect you to the clearnet websites. So people still need TOR for that if SAFE becomes popular. There's a setting on The SAFE Browser to browse the clearnet as well, but that's without proxies like TOR has. So SAFE is the ideal place for filesharing, decentralized websites and stuff like that. TOR is ideal if you want to browse a website behind a bunch of proxies.
