That means 1 Monero = 10^12 "picomoneros". I guess that our friends under the imperial system strongly dislike picomoneros. (don't like it myself much, it's long and unwieldy) So what are the other proposals? It's easier to use the "-nero" suffix, so just piconeros. You can see this in action with Tippero, the tipping / gaming bot on Freenode, where the dice game gives you feedback in the appropriate unit - [11:44:05] <@tippero> moneromooo loses 640 millinero on roll #133. 0.7268251371569932 > 0.33 [11:44:13] <@moneromooo> !dice 1.28 2 [11:44:13] <@tippero> moneromooo loses 1.28 Monero on roll #134. 0.3441599474754184 > 0.33 [12:14:54] <@moneromooo> !dice 1.998309411355 2 [12:14:54] <@tippero> moneromooo wins 3.99661882271 Monero on roll #135! 0.1800830094143748 <= 0.33 [12:15:25] <@moneromooo> !dice 0.001 0.7 [12:15:26] <@tippero> moneromooo wins 700 micronero on roll #136! 0.3154929496813565 <= 0.5823529411764706

Probably the opposite. Moore's law in memory continues unabated. The growth in the blockchain is fairly slow and so far linear. More to the point, today in January 2015 the 4-6 GB you need for the blockchain is increasingly less of a big deal. Less than it has ever been even over the short lifetime of Monero. Nevertheless, the database test builds also work better than ever.

Apparently its adaptive - i've seen it move between 300 and 600. I'm speculating that the last hurdle is windows implementation - and if I didn't have this dang dayjob I'd be at home playing on my windows box helpin the devs

Just to clarify - how much have you personally donated to cover the hundreds of man-hours that have been spent on the blockchainDB and lmdb implementation? Because hey, buddy, if you're not commensurately paying for it then you don't have permission to demand anything. At all. Ever.

And there *IS* a practical way to donate, it is in CryptoKingdom the Game Just tell to donate to Monero House, and every day a sum that you choose, no matter how small or big, is given to the developers! My donation is 5 XMR/day

I have to say I think Tippero is awesome.
This is the kind of thing that can really make a coin stand out in a crowded space.
Nice work.
+1,000 I'm having a ball with it (was gifted a couple XMR to play with).

Might be a bit of an ignorant question, but I can't seem to find this simple info anywhere (neither in OP nor on the rather broken monero website):
1) What is the smallest unit in monero? Is there an accepted name? Moneritos? Matoshis?
2) How much of these units make 1 monero?
Amount IS in the OP: 2^64-1 Smallest unit: piconero https://xmrmonero.com/node/88This is the MEW (Monero Economy Worgroup), mainly ran by yours truly, core dev, so almost as good as official. The FAQ will be expanded with your questions.

I tried it out, despite the fact Firefox gave me an untrusted error. Lost about 5 XMR and invested the rest (everyone knows Saddam has terrible luck). Seems legit. All in all, still having more fun in #tippero with all my Monero friends. Edit: The SSL certificate is working now, bet & invest away!

In this particular context, cryptocurrency utility to development cost ratio is a race to the bottom. So was this an impulse response to me neglecting to mention the hard work going on, or was it to cover some ineptitude? I pointed out a truth, not a demand

I pointed out a truth, not a demand You didn't point out a truth, you merely asserted an opinion (which was promptly demolished). Hectoring coders while one does nothing to help is a long-time pet peeve of FOSS devs. There is a canonical quote on the matter, which I can't find ATM. But I'm certain smooth, fluffy, pa, or Taco (who doubtless all know it by heart) can provide it. Please try out the shiny new Win64 DB binary and provide feedback. Then you will have some (non-zero) standing to cast FUD about.
