Do you think Monero is a good choice for a long term?

Things are interesting today after JP Morgan's CEO  remarks, and US bill about crypto currencies. Market is really volatile after that.

Hello !
I'm mining monero with a new rig, on Nanopool but i may have done a mistake...

What if I indicated an address + a payment ID on Nanopool while i have a Monero Wallet on Mymonero ?
Because now i understand that payment ID is optionnal and usefull only if you want to be paid on an exchange account !

On MyMonero wallet, i clicked on the "Receive" button, then I copy-pasted the payment ID that appeared and use it to mine on Nanopool with my Monero address.

But now, the payment ID that MyMonero is showing is different from yesterday...Is it an issue ?

When Nanopool with send me some monero, will it be ok ? Or it will be lost cause i gave them an outdated payment ID ?

Thank you for the help !

If you are able to get on IRC (chat software), someone can probably help you out better than I can. http://webchat.freenode.net/ Give yourself a nickname and enter #monero for the channel.

Don't worry about it, as long as you hold the address the payment id can be anything, even if the address is with an exchange, the exchange will still get the coins even if payment id is omitted, just they'd have no idea which user to credit.

When is the date for the hardfork? I heard some hardfork is coming for Monero with big updates.

And where can I learn more about it?

Tomorrow! Hard forking tomorrow, make sure you update your wallet https://getmonero.org/downloads/ as soon as you can, best to do it before the fork.

Wow that is quick, luckily I only have Monero in an exchange, I could not figure out the wallet yet, but I'll learn that after the hardfork.

It looks like the next days will be exciting.

Ah those VAT taxes, you gotta love them. You can't consume though without paying off some bureaucrats first....

Monero Price Jumps by 6% as Other Cryptocurrency Markets Struggle
Considering how all cryptocurrencies are struggling right now, it is pretty interesting to see how Monero is effectively in the green. This is the only major cryptocurrency with an established reputation in the industry to note any gains.  IOTA is also in the green right now, but it is still on the brink of dropping out of the top 10 very soon. Monero is on the radar for traders right now, thanks to the 6.19% gain over the past 24 hours. Cheesy

That is true .. sadly, the entire market is being ripped downwards because of China.  Once China gets their act together we can all carry on as usual.  The market is probably heading towards 80 - 100bln market cap.  Once steady, and Monero heads downwards with the pack, I'd say in the range of $40 - $60 USD, then is a good opportunity to buy.

The whole market is unstable.  North Korea, China doing their utmost to smash things up.  USA all the way leading the light, holding firm!
The market will steady eventually, once China is finished whatever it is they are trying to do.

Interesting times.

I just set up a notebook with ubuntu (deleting windows 10), and the 0.11.0.0 GUI.  This is an offline only computer with minimal storage, so no blockchain/updates.   Getting this far has expanded my experience drastically, but now I'm stumbling...  Can I set up my online computer's GUI to show a view-only version of the offline wallet(s) without entering any private keys or seeds?  Doing so would seem to defeat the purpose...  Also, is there a concise tutorial for creating transactions from the offline setup?  TIA

Monero is effectively in the green.
You're living in a dream world.
Anyway, please go to Monero Speculation thread for discussions of price.
