What’s with clams? How does it work? I just know you get clamcoins if you hold BTC or dogecoin, but how does it work? Did you have an ICO, are you listed? It this some kind of utility tokens or just another cryptocurrency?

"I just know you get clamcoins if you hold BTC or dogecoin"

That's pretty much how it works.

For every address on the BTC, LTC and DOGE blockchain that had funds on the date of the snapshot (early May 2014), around 4.6 CLAM was granted to the same address, but on the CLAM blockchain. Once you import your BTC/LTC/DOGE wallets, any CLAM you have shows up in the client.

No ICO. Did those even exist in 2014?

CLAM seems to be used predominantly for gambling on just-dice.com, and until recently, for speculation (via margin trading) on Poloniex.

I think they were either called premined coins or IPO's still then.

I think CLAM was the first coin to be entirely given away to the private keys of previously existing coins, so it really was a new thing at the time.

I don't think the terms ICO or IPO really apply to CLAM, since all the coins were given away for free. There was no "offering".

I didn't mean that it applied to CLAM.  I just meant "that crowd" was using those terms for their stuff.

CLAM was different for sure.  You're right.

Hi!

What is the maximum time you waited for a CLAM withdrawal from Poloniex, from issuing to completion?
I lately got a withdrawal showing "COMPLETE", with even a txid, but coins didn't arrive yet and the txid is not to be found on the explorer.
It is already a couple of weeks this happened and Polo team said they will look into the issue, but nothing changed since then.

Similar experience here. Just a couple of form replies and then it was fixed, without any explanation, or addressing my specific "this keeps happening" concerns.

How long did it take from start to end?

How long did it take from start to end?

Withdraw attempt was on 17th June, I opened a ticket on 18th June, was advised on 30th June that transaction had gone through.

In a subsequent ticket I mentioned: "As per my original ticket, I believe this is an ongoing problem. So I don't just want my transaction kick started in a week or two...how can we solve these issues once and for all?"

The reply said: "Thanks for your patience. We have refunded your transaction. Feel free to initiate the withdrawal again at your convenience."

I don't know if they've specifically been instructed to ignore/deflect queries about the ongoing CLAM problems or it's just the way support works. Twice they ignored my question about a proper fix.

Now they refunded the failed withdrawal, I proceeded with another one, and also this one shows as "COMPLETE" with txid, but the txid is not present on the explorer.
I have had several mishaps with CLAMs on Poloniex in the past, but this time is starting to get ridiculous... And yes, replies from the customer care team are void of useful information.

This is going to happen almost every time... it's a full time job dealing with Poloniex.

Where does Swap get its coins? Last I heard you were buying them on Poloniex and having to wait a long time for every withdrawal. Did you find a workaround?

We buy from Poloniex most the time still, but our customers withdraw directly from our local wallets.  Our customer never gets nailed by Polo withdrawing/depositing waits, but we do.

Our exchange is almost complete... that will eventually cut Polo out of the picture hopefully for us.
