Was that a stupid fork question. To whom do you think you are making software? To other crypto specialists?

Sorry for rude answer, not my best day.
I expect readers of this forum to know at least basics of crypto currencies.
(SOFT) Forks can happen all the time (like with any other crypto currency).
They are resolved based on chain score.
Highest allowed (soft) fork in NEM is 360 blocks height [1].
Although in reality you can consider yourself lucky, if you'll see fork deeper than 20 blocks (in NEM I mean).
[1] - After that software won't resolve the fork, and the only way to get proper chain is removal of db, and resync.
HARD forks (the one that we occasionally announce here and on NEM forum)
are the forks introduced by changes in the software.
They are programmed to happen at some certain block. If you WON'T update
your software you might end-up on a fork.
Those are really the basics...
