In two short days it'll be time to put the ROI to the test, especially with the new CGMiner 4.6 and latest firmware. I'm still a believer, and even if it's only "close" to ROI, I'll be a happy camper. The whole point of a hobby is for it to be fun.

I don't have the build environment to create a full binary image, and the code will need a LOT of work to actually become part of mainline cgminer it seems, but for the time being here is a link to a bugfixed binary of cgminer 4.6.0 for the S3 based on the bitmain code. Copy the file into /usr/bin/ on the S3 overwriting the existing one:
http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/antminer/s3/4.6.0-140908/cgminer

@ ckolivas: You my good man, are a LEGEND! I'll be sending a small donation shortly - excellent work & many, many thanks  Smiley

It's amazing to think that it took you less than 5 hours to produce something that Bitmain failed to do after promising to do so over 3 weeks ago...... Huh Anyone who uses this, please consider giving ckolivas a small donation for helping secure your S3's from security risks, improving their performance & ensuring your hash power goes where it's supposed to go.

@ Bitmain: Please upload updated firmware releases for both S2 & S3 units that incorporate the latest cgminer as you said you would. Not everyone of your users has the technical know-how to install ckolivas's latest work, a firmware update image is much more user friendly and will enable everyone to benefit from the latest cgminer fixes & improvements.

Thanks, in anticipation...... Wink

Thanks for your support and help getting this issue fixed. I am one of the less technically inclined who would love a easier / safer way to make the update.

Let's go Bitmain! Stop worrying about how you will make the next dollar, and fix what you promised weeks ago! This looks really bad that a community member could fix the issue in less than a day, yet Bitmain let's it go for weeks, if not months. You clearly have the resources to fix this issue. But don't for what reason? 1 community member fixed your issue in less than 1 day!! Where is Bitmain's team? Working on the next pre-order?

What is more important, making the next dollar, or keeping your current customers happy? If you keep throwing us under the bus to make a dollar, you will continue to have more unhappy customers.

The few reasons I liked Bitmain have quickly deteriorated. I'll be looking for a more reputable company for future purchases!

Yeah, you can tell they where about to ship... Hash rates been dropping for days.

That month + test they did on those S3's must have required a lot of.... profiting by Bitmain on your investments =/

Good news is, we found out where all that hash came from weeks ago / and where it will go in the next few weeks.

Just updated my 2 from batch 6.  Wow.  Huge improvement.  I went from 470 G and 450 G @ 250, to about 520G on both.  Nice firmware upgrade

updated with bitmain's update or 4.6.0?

Firmware updates rendered 2 of my 4 units inoperable. No hashing. I had to roll back to original firmware for them to hash. Anyone else see this?

This one:  antMiner_S320140811.bin

I had this on antMiner_S320140811.bin.  I resolved it by re-applying the firmware and unchecking the box to keep my settings.  Something about the old firmware settings was causing the issue.

Could you report hash difference (if any) after 24hr?
I sure will (and that is why I said "still early days ...".

Well, it has been a few days. Can you report any increase in hashing on 4.6.0 in comparison with the stock version?
Thanks.

ive been running with cgminer 4.6.0 for the last 24 hours, and my hashing seems to have increased slightly one of my antminer S3s was usually at 460ish at 237.5 now has been stable at 478 avg for the last 12 hours with error rate of 0.008 %

Does the antMiner_S320140826.bin version work with pre batch 8 S3s?  Or does it only work on S3+???

I'm using it on a B5 with no issues.  It looks like it just added support for the S3+
