I'm curious to see some pictures of those mining rigs. Share your pictures of your rig and then details of build and mhash/sec. Let's get a frame of reference up here with some visuals. Wish you had posted this last night, I just added my third 100% mining rig to my little cluster. Total count is now 4 mining rigs (one doubles as a webserver for my store) and 1 gaming rig which spends most its time mining. Will post a picture in about 10 hours  . |

What kinda hardware/cooling is going on in those server boxes? I looked at setting up a true cluster like that, but it just seemed like the computer wouldn't be able to vent the heat of the cards efficiently. |

I am fortunate enough to have a shop with space for me to setup my mining rigs. So far I've just gone with the open "bench" setup to save on costs and to make cooling easy. In the photo you can see the bench with three rigs (a mix of 5870, 5970 and one older 5840) on the floor is the Bitcoin solo server running in -server mode, which also has 2 5870's. There are a couple of other machines in my office with 5870's elsewhere. I am at 3.8G/hash and adding about 1/g/hash per week buying up cheap used cards via craigslist. I am working on building a good Ubuntu Live ATI ISO file today in an attempt to eliminate all of the hard drives by using USB thumb drives, that'll save on electricity as well as hardware costs going forward.  |

MSI 890FXA-GD70 is my guess. Some of the capacitors don't match a MSI 790FX-GD70.
Yes, I believe that is what it is. The 6990's appear to be in slots 1, 4 and 7. The bottom card is hanging off the end of the mobo, which is not a problem since it's in a Cooler Master HAF-942 case, which has 9 slots. Nice job. |

at home, i have a 5570 that gets 63 MH/s(.063 GH/s) going to the slush pool. i run it when the PC is on. and I'm glad just to be getting that 64mh
at least I'm mining when I can when at school.

"I feel so outmatched." you have no reason to. how many people on earth - out of a population of somewhere around 7 billion - are doing better than you are? two or three thousand? i note that you can probably get $50 bucks for your 5570, and pick up a 5770 for an additional 60-70 dollars or so. that would triple your hash rate. 40ish BTC/mo in slush's pool. go for it. you're a student: it's not like you have to eat or anything... |

However, keep the case open and point to the cards a largish table fan and than it could be quite a nice rig ...
The side panel on this one almost is a box fan.  yes it is but that fun is so slow, but not noisy. HAF in reality is not high airflow, but half passable and not noisy airflow yeah. i have an AZZA Hurrican case like that: tons of very slow airflow. my cards are touching 80 C, which is a bit warm for my taste. i have a couple of fan voltage regulators on the way... |
