I was wondering why didn't they spread out the NFactor changes in lets say 5-6 years to go from 1 to 16.
Even if someone is making ASICs for Chacha, 1 or 2 changes per year would be enough to discourage him.

I agree, but on the other hand, when we get into the high NF's, those changes do really slow down.  NF of 17 or 18 is where I'd really like to see some coin be at to even see if we can get CPU even closer to GPU.  It looks like YAC has about 2 months before we'll see how it works in large scale.

If an intelligent discussion of NFactor changes in this coin's thread is not on topic, then I don't want to know what y'all are smoking...

This coin is going to be BIG Wink
Based on?
You'll see, if you don't know already
I've been here since the very beginning so please enlighten me as to what I'm not seeing.

Well the price is going up? Quite steadily.

Double in 2-3 weeks - thats not too bad.

Time will tell the story...................

Thats what I can see.

Is anyone having problems with the wallet? Started getting "Not responding" few days ago after a Windows restart. Reinstalled, deleted all files except wallet.dat, nothing helps. Now blk-v2-0001.dat is growing very slowly, KB by KB, since yesterday.
This problem started happening on an old wallet, downloaded a new one and it doesn't help.

OK. Here's what I see. I mined this coin from the beginning. I started selling some when the priced hovered around $1 USD. As the price dropped I sold enough to pay for electricity and held the rest. When the N-factor made high end cards not worth running I quit mining but still held. The price was at 200 sats a few weeks ago so there was really no other place to go but up so saying the price doubled in 2-3 weeks is pretty funny. I started selling off most of my remaining stash a year ago. My last sales were at 10-11k sats. That's about 15x the current price. Can you see where this is going? The reality is that UTC is now more than 99.7% below it's ATH. Does it have a future? That's anyone's guess. I personally don't see much of a future but that's JMHO and only time will tell. As long as the dilution continues this coin will probably go nowhere other than the occasional P&D.

What are the devs waiting for; kill the inflation and dilution on this thing.

Something must have gone wrong with Windows. Works fine on another computer.

NFactor15 Forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Let's lock it down...Let's lock it down...

I'm one of the biggest remaining UTC miners and going ahead with an NFactor15 lockdown would make me, in the words of Sir Wilfred Laurier, "most happy of best joy long time and the FOREVER!!!!"

Right now we're in talks for locking down the N-Factor, either revert back to N-Factor 14 or stay on 15 (the higher the N-Factor the better the power consumption/efficiency). We would also like to see a 1/3rd reduction in the inflation rate, by curbing inflation and keeping the coin minable and effecient for GPU miners, we will be locking in a very important niche in GPU mining, especially Scrypt-ChaCha mining. An ASIC reistant, established and energy effecient cryptocurrency with both investors (stake minting) and miners in mind. Economically, this will sustain the long term growth of the coin, not to mention stabilize the price. We were planning on doing an N-Factor stall for a long time, but hesitsted do to some negative feedback, however we are more confident then ever that now is the time to lock in the N-Factor, it is also the perfect opportunity to hit the brakes on inflation. Due to the next N-Factor increase taking place so soon (April 29th), we won't have enough time to implement the change, have it tested, and have all the exchanges updated in time. Instead we are going to have to endure the N-Factor update, make the necessary changes to the wallet, and then implement the change at a specific block height which should give us enough time to update all of our wallets as well as the ones on the exchanges. I believe this move will put Ultracoin in a very unique and well desired position compared to our closest competition.

Sincerely,

That sounds excellent.  I think it is obvious my vote is for NFactor15.  I think it's the sweet spot that uses minimal power and thus generates less heat in the house and it is still OK to mine with 2GB cards and excels with low end 4GB cards.

A very nice niche!
  • It is relatively affordable to get into for miners since equipment is much cheaper
  • It is less susceptible to the arms-race effect than algos that favour the best equipment create
  • The much lower amount of heat generated from your miners means MUCH less complaining from spouse

Does this benefit miners or investors? Will more or less coins be minted from this?

 - Freezing the NFactor at 15 would benefit miners.

 - Reducing the inflation (ie number of coins mined / day) would likely benefit current investors if price goes up in response, effect on miners would likely be neutral if price increase matched coin/day decrease.
