Yeah I already recommended that as a good starting point for correcting wallet issues.

Have you tried 'repairwallet' in console?

I certainly have. Just tells me everything is fine from what I can see.

I think I'm going to need a new bootstrap. Ever since I upgraded my router, I can't synchronize my Bitstar wallet. It's over 21,000 blocks behind and I get gradually kicked off the network after the wallet has been running for a few minutes. I have staking turned off (although I have a lot of coins "trapped" in the staking state) but it still won't sync. I've tried restarting the wallet and it just does the same thing. My other wallets are working OK. Please post a new bootstrap ASAP. Thanks!

Any rough ETA on when we'll get the new BITS wallet?

It shouldn't take too long after the new coin has been distributed for the dev team to issue a basic wallet for BITS on the new codebase. It will of course be necessary to verify that the burn/buy process has been reviewed and accepted by the community as all correct and in order, before tackling such things as issuing a new chain for BITS.

One of the factors in the dev team moving Bitstars to a new codebase and chain, asides from accommodating for the burn and coin-count adjustment, is that the Blackcoin PoS v3 staking calculation removes the coin-age from the equation and implements a static block reward. What this translates into is a staking process which rewards users for actually staking and supporting the network continuously, not simply leaving their wallet offline and benefiting from a windfall on the occasions they deign to load it up and unlock it, as a result of their network 'weight' being excessive due to the coin-age (How long their coins have been in the same address without being moved or staked).

The wallet for the new coin is nearing completion but we'll make sure to check beforehand whether anybody is still having trouble getting their Bitstar wallets caught up and synchronised so that nobody feels they will miss out on the chance to participate.

Doe you have Map port using UPnP checked in wallet's network settings? If not, try checking it.
I don't use any nodes in my conf file and still have 16 active connections and sync up just fine.

Thanks T3C. Glad to know that work is in progress in the background.

BTW, It's great that BITS doesn't get hyped up. But maybe it does need a little bit of promotion by the devs?
e.g. For the last 8 months, I'm pretty much the only person who actually tweets about BITS! (excluding bots/pools)

Promotion for the sake of creating speculative interest is frequently harmful in the long term to altcoin projects, as experience has proven time and again throughout Bitcointalk's history.

It is a difficult line to walk to generate sufficient community involvement without stepping into the realms of hype.

I have Universal Plug 'n' Play disabled on my router (as should everyone, really for security reasons IMHO) so that wouldn't make any difference. Honestly I think I may have forked somehow, and that's why I can't sync. That's why I think it will take a new bootstrap to get me fixed up.

But in this world, without promotion, nothing sells even if it's very good. Also, new investment is usually based on potential & speculation anyways.
It can't hurt BITS if hype is based on truth IMO. Only hurts when those hypes never eventuate or dev disappears. (like so many scam coins did  Grin)

Dev, what's the block time for BITS?

Could we get the actual block number ranges for each annual stake rate put on the OP's Extra Info section to make it clearer?
I'm trying to figure out when PoS rate of 25% switches to 10% but not sure exactly which block/date it'll do it on that's all.
Also remove "Currently 18m in circulation" as it's incorrect now. Wink

From this:

Quote
POS interest: 35%, 25%, 10% and 1% changing annually.

To something like this: (copied from another coin)

Quote
PoW Phase: [0000001-0000002] Premine amount if any
PoW Phase: [0000003-0259200] Mention end date
PoS Phase 1: PoS [0259201-0518400] 20% Approx. 180 days
PoS Phase 2: PoS [0518401-1036800] 10% Approx. 1 year
PoS Phase 3: PoS [1036801-1555200] 05% Approx. 1 year
PoS Phase 4: PoS [1555201-2073600] 01% Approx. 1 year

I can answer this, it won't. The replacement wallet/chain that is being issued for BITS after the experimental coin has been distributed will replace the existing PoS mechanism for an APR which will be predominantly dependent on what percentage of coins are being staked across the network.

How does one perform the exchange to new bits ?

Nothing is happening to BITS until after the burn/buy has taken place for the experimental coin. This new coin is *not* a replacement for Bitstarcoin, it is a different project entirely.

Perhaps I should ask dev to include some of my posts in the OP which fully explain what is happening.

Thanks for the update. So who will be the main developer for the new experimental coin? Same dev as BITS?

Also, will the updated BITS wallet have a proper launch/promo/campaign or just a link to a new wallet and that's it?
It's just a little frustrating to see such a good dev team & coin be known to so few people with small market cap.  Cry

I have 4 or 5 active connections, but my QT wallet doesn't sync anymore, since block 1542223 (3213 blocks remaining now).
I've deleted peers.dat, run "bitstard repairwallet", tried "bitstar-qt -rescan", but nothing happens.
Is there a problem on the network? (other wallets sync fine)

No problem with wallet here.

Recent issues were solved by deleting everything in the %appdata% bitstar folder except for wallet.dat and extracting the fast-start pack into it. Run the exe with -rescan and leave it do it's thing.

I think some of the older wallets being fired up in preparation for the burn process may be causing too much network weight due to the coin-age and resulting in some forks being broadcast in places.

I second that - I know everyone is busy, but it's time for another bootstrap. Pretty please?  Tongue

On an unrelated note, I've been really impressed with the recent Decred (DCR) project, and I'm wondering if some of their ideas could eventually be implemented into BitStar. As a simple example this website: https://dcrstats.com/ gives a great simple overview of what's happening with the Decred coin at that moment. The code for the website is open source. It would be awesome to incorporate something like this for BitStar.

I think BITS needs a clearer road map to lure new investors. I guess all will come in due time.
