I have watched some very strange luck for pools over the year.

Right now with 6 hours and no antpool block found is approaching one of those times.

That would be only 4 blocks per day Smiley

Luck will turn around but it is concerning when you go way out of the ordinary, especially when hashnest is experiencing problems.  It always makes you wonder if the hashnest part of antpool is actually hashing.

BUT according to antpool it has been up, just at a lower hashrate probably from small farms pulling hash off antpool.

Edit- That is going to be one heck of a negative earnings block.  Going to be a lot of of upset people soon who don't fully understand pool luck ( if that is what it is, just bad luck ).

Dear Bitmain Customers,

This morning we received a concerning email from a group of hackers threatening Bitmain and our services with a DDoS attack and demanding a ransom payment to prevent the attack. Bitmain is committed to providing the best service possible to our users, and will not invite future attacks of this sort by giving in to the demands of hackers.

The hackers have demonstrated that they do possess the capability to execute a DDoS and that this is not an entirely empty threat, although we do not know the full extent of their capabilities. During the next few days, Bitmaintech.com, AntPool, AntPool.com, and&nbs p;Hashnest.com may experience intermittent outages. Our team is working hard to ensure that the effects of any possible attack will be as minimal as possible.

For those customers mining on AntPool, please make sure that you have configured your backup pools properly in the event that you are unable to access AntPool.

For HashNest users, mining payouts will continue as usual and there is no need to worry about lost revenue.

For sales, if you are unable to access our main website, you may contact us directly at info@bitmaintech.com.

Thank you for bearing with us during this time.

All the best,

Bitmain

Thank you for the update but it seems obvious that there has been downtime today. What do you mean payouts for Hashnest users will continue? Will there be compensation for lost time?

Thanks for sharing that, makes sense..

I missed that.

lol Smiley

I only have contracts at the moment on hashnest and some btc.  I don't think contracts are affected by bad or good luck as you get paid for time without maintenance I think.

If anyone does have some ant2,3,4,5 would be very curious to how big the negative blocks was for 6 hours. Especially umisoo or ant 2 Sad

I agree with Bitmain, you can't give in to hackers or it will just invite more extortion.

Hope Bitmain puts enough resources and effort into fixing the holes so the scumbags can't keep attacking us Sad

Edit - Site looks to be running fast as of 1:15 EST.   Hope bitmain figured it out and didn't pay off the hackers Sad

Edit 2 never mind unresponsive again...

From my understanding though ddos attacks might hurt the front end, but have very little affect on the actual hashing.

It means the miners there aren't affected and are still being paid for blocks found.

Antpool was going up and down during the last 12 hours so mining was affected. I have physical miners on the pool also. We will see if Bitmain will own up to that fact.

Not trying to start trouble but we are promised 100% uptime and that hasn't been the case today.

External miners would be affected in a DDOS attack, yes.  That is why you have alternate backup pools that switch when a pool is having problems.

Internal cloud mining wouldn't be affected much I don't think as the information that gets transmitted is very little. Most of the process is done on the physical machine, but I could be wrong!

Now if a ddos completely shut them off from getting work from the network for our cloud mining ones then that would be a problem.   It is too bad you can't really know and with a 6 hour block right at the same time it does cause you to wonder what the situation is.   ( I have witnessed plenty of pools get ddos attacks in the past and the front end would go down but the pool still would find normal amount of blocks )

BUT again if you have your own miners, problem solved switch pools until it is fixed.

You all realize that Hashnest is on Antpool right? When Antpool is down we are not mining. Look at the homepage of antpool and you will see the drop offs in Hashrate. Compare that to long times between blocks.

With 1 block found in 8 hours it looks like it is starting to go way beyond bad luck and we are experiencing less then 100% uptime.

Will see how it all pans out when we know more.

Hey guys, I'm a serious noob here but am wondering what exactly the difference is between Hashnet and Antpool. I'm trying to get into this cloud mining and I've got a pretty good grasp on what hashnest is and what to do on there. But I'm confused as to what exactly the antpool site is for and what I do on there. Sorry for sounding so ignorant, if someone can just summarize for me what the differences are I'd really appreciate it....

It depends what part of antpool is down. IF its the frontend it wont affect us but the backend or the whole server would

I am going to have a hard time swallowing that it is bad luck that just happens to coincide with a DDOS attack. After the last few days being down it was more likely that we would have a better day. Not that we were going to have the worst day in months.

Hopefully since it is morning in China we will get an official statement.
