The ads only appear for < 0.5% donators.  Adblock or not, they will not appear unless your donation is at the lowest levels.  The site is not "plastered with ads".  It has one wide but short google adsense banner ad.

Other ways to make money?  I'd be all for it!  This was just a way to get something out of the continued growth.  The pool's donations per block have been slipping consistently, and these ads on 0.0-0.4% donators are a very good way to normalize the revenue coming from people who don't give back to a pool that is currently demanding many dedicated servers.
Funny, this was an easy way of finding out which forum members dont donate to the cause
All ad-complainers are not donating (or at least less than 0.5%).. sheesh...

API/Website were having connection problems, which would be why your charts freaked out.  UK cluster had an error in their sync code when they hit US East.  It ended up flooding the server with MySQL connections which made it so the other servers could not get a response, making API/My Account not work for about 20 minutes.

If it was my pool I'd announce a minimum .5 or 1% fee... You are big enough now that you may lose a few people but slush is 2%, deep 3%, and no one else comes close to the size. Losing a few of the people who never contribute when you keep taking on additional costs is better than sooner or later going to make you quitting the site if you don't make a few bucks bitcoins off it. Everyone who doesn't contribute can hate me and call me a troll all you want, but for all the economics posts on this forum people sure hate to hear they have to pay a measly 1% fee for all the work you do. Just my humble opinion.

EDIT:
I really didn't proofread this as well as I normally would. Strikeouts throughout.

I have been mining with the useast server for the past 24 hours (200-300 mhps), yet nothing has been showing up on my stats page. Shares are being accepted and I don't see any errors.

The UK server isn't showing shares or rewards for blocks again.
Hope its just a front end issue because we just got lucky with a nice few rounds.

As far as not paying for electricity; I assume you are either young and your parents are actually paying for it or you are using hardware/electricity from somebody else [school, employer, church, etc] and in which point, I hope you have made it 100% clear to them that you are doing this or it is stealing and can be treated as such [employers tend to just fire you, but other organizations ... up to them].

You would assume wrong.  I'm also running 24 6xxx/5xxx ATI cards at my home.  Again, same free utils.  I do own the hardware tho.  Make what 100% clear?  Not everyone is so nosy about everyone elses business.  Doesn't even include the massive amounts of power I use from my 'normal' PC or daily activities.  Who should I let know that my 140TB+ personal home file server is sucking more power then a mining rig?  But then you wouldn't believe that either since I must be young and living at home without a 6-digit (I do admit, it's very low 6  Cry ) income to pay for this hardware.

I've been here for years.  My electric use now has been nearly the same now as then.  Several extra mining machines a few months ago draws what?  At an extra 4kw from me for the past few months.  That's bearly a bleep from me.

I was giving you advice to keep you out of trouble if you are doing any of these things.  If you live with somebody who pays utilities, then it is between you and them about whether you need to discuss it.  Free utilities in almost any situation is pretty much unheard of these days [meaning, rent an apartment, own a condo, home, whatever].  I am not saying it can't be part of a "rental" or "lease" agreement, but it is very very rare.  Far more likely, somebody is paying the bill.  Since you run the computers in your home, then presumably, somebody in your home is paying the electrical bill, just not you.  You can be sure that mining is noticeable on the electric bill, but heading into summer, many people may not notice the difference [due to use of A/C] until later or maybe never.

I was not suggesting that you are doing anything wrong.  I assumed the scenario as it is the most likely cases where electricity is free and made suggestions about how to avoid trouble.  I would rather have mentioned it to you and be scolded by you than not have mentioned it and you get fired for mining on your employer's dime.

I am not sure what your income has to do with this discussion at all [is it supposed to suggest that you are not a kid?  If so, I believed you when you wrote that you are not].

Use adblock, and you wont see any ads Smiley  I never knew the account page or any other page had ads on it Smiley

And why would you do that? If you don't donate to the server the least you can do is allow a small ad on the page to help with server costs. There are times to use adblock but this isn't one of those times.

I refuse to look at ads in my browser. Sorry.  Especially when I am donating 2.5% to the pool, I despise the idea of having to look at ads.
I run adblock on every single site I visit. There are many many other ways a site can make money other than plastering the page with ads.

Same here .. I don't like cookies, trojans and all the other crap that comes along with them if you do a search and hit the wrong site.  I allow ads when I browse using other browsers [specifically locked down for security].  Some sites rely on ad revenue to supplement other income, often to keep prices low for some service or other.  If that is the case, a site should note this so that people can choose to let them through [most likely a site that you frequent like a pool website, is not going to have off ads for generic Viagra or find your perfect mate .... more likely related, at least loosely, to what the site is about .. for a pool, hardware manufacturers, stores, technical service, etc would make sense .. if it is just click based banners based on all of your browsing, then forget it, nobody wants to see it for any reason on a pool website].

As far as users that do not donate to the pool ... shame on you! Get a sense of ethics, morale values and be a good patron.  Come on.  Honestly, I don't know why any pool allows free other than for a trial period.  It seems the worst offenders are those mining 5+GH/s from what I have read on various pool threads, although I am sure that there are some users at all hash rate levels opting for 0% [as a rule, not an exception] out of greed and feel no shame and have no honor.  I urged Eleuthria not to allow such abuse [frankly, I believe, the minimum should be the estimated amount required to break even on costs of allowing the user to participate in the pool ... I am guessing 1%, depending upon fees and of course the price of BTC and if they are sold to fund operations].  The beauty of a percentage donation is that small rewards mean small donations and large rewards means larger donations, but "feels" the same to all users.

Eleuthria, I think you should move or remove the cumulative donations paid from the main account page since I am guessing that a some people see that number get larger, they begin to feel they have "paid enough" and start lowering their donation.  It is all psychological, but seeing a large donation sitting there when after several difficulty increases a miner makes nowhere near that amount in a day, week or longer, then I think that it will affect perception of individuals as opposed to "I earned 2.23 BTC today and received 2.17 BTC in payout today".  The latter seems pretty insignificant as opposed to seeing total donations of 31.22 BTC.  Smiley  Am I picking on the large greedy 0% power miners again?  Grin

All the BTC Guild pool servers simply quit handing out work for intervals at a time.  I jumped from central to uk, to nl2 and then to deepbit after seeing my GPU graphs looking like a mountain range on the horizon.

hi eleuthria,
could you please get the load percentage shown in the pool status API, or give out how the load percentage can be calculated from the hash-rate of each server, in the convenience of auto pool swith. Now I can only use the hash-rate of each pool to determine a lower-hash-rate pool, it is appreatly not the "load".

The round time didn't reset after the last block it's currently up to 3hr 55min (should be around 50 minutes).

Everything else looks good though. =)

Yep, looks to be just the round time stats, but the rounds are rolling along mostly like normal. The round that ended at 01:25 local time seems to have been one of the longest I have seen since turning on monitoring though.

Either the round times are still not updating, or the "round shares" number in the site header seems to be way too low...

UK's load balance service crashed and failed to restart overnight.  The new block allocation script assumes when a pool server returns 0 shares for a round, there was a sync error and it aborts calculating the block.

Taking UK offline, it's causing a lot of problems and part of it is due to using a software level load balancer for a job that truly needs either a hardware or custom kernel/OS level balancer.

UK's addresses are now pointing at NL2 for the time being.  Going to work on getting a similar setup to the server I ordered (should be delivered by next Monday), but as a dedicated host lease in the EU until the US server is setup, tested, and running live.

UPDATE:  Banned an entire range of IPs from Brazil.  It has been hitting NL1/NL2 hard the last few days, and now the entire range has been banned to speed up the auto ban process.

Not that it matters much with the huge difficulty, but what happened to the 'Blocks found' column?  I know it doesn't really do anything and mostly useless but it was nice to know how many winners your workers were responsible for.   Cheesy

Blocks found hasn't been working properly since the split to multiple servers.  The information is there, but spread among all of the servers currently.  I'll probably get around to setting up the servers to synchronize block finds this weekend so that Blocks Found and Hall of Fame can return.

UPDATE:  A couple quick restarts on EU (DE) to push a patched bitcoind that uses threaded RPC calls and keep alive connections.  Stress testing the new setup now.
