Question to anyone with an S9 on Kano Pool: how much reward do you normally get for a block? Looking back over the history of the pool, it has gone up to 8 days without finding a block. Is the reward on par with the other pools in that timeframe?

There are 100s of posts asking the same question. If you go back about 25 pages and start reading you will find many case studies. Additionally, if the rewards were not on par with other pools do you think that we would be mining here? There is a reason we do. Unless of course we are morons and that could very well be the case. You can't see the forest through the trees. This is about the average over time. One week to the next has a lot of variance. Over time the variance flattens out and you will see that you will make more here than on pools such as slush and antpoo.

I'm not an expert but I did do some of my own analysis having mined on Kano and Slush. To me the numbers speak for themselves, it's Kano all the way. These are all based on past results but I put my money on Kano moving forward...

Maybe this will help and keep in mind I was calculating based on 3-13.5 Antminer S9's. Minergain.com is also a great source as well.

Many people at the start see the "constant" smaller payouts from slush and can see what they're making.   Only the few, the proud who can see the results on kano not coming in hourly/daily but over time...it's not even close.

For a real comparison, up to the point of our last block, if you were fully ramped up with an S9 from Dec 10 until the last block, you would of been making .002795 per day with the S9.  I know someone that had 11 on Nicehash, and they were making only .0020 per day per S9..  so you tell me.  what is better.

I’m thinking about joining Kano pool. I started out mining recently at BTC.com but have recently learned that they are more concerned with themselves than the crypto community. Can anybody with experience tell me what to expect differently switching to Kano? Currently I get some BTC every minute or so it seems like and then get the payout at 6pm every night with a little extra from transaction fees. I’m just curious what to expect from Kano. I’ll only have about 20th to bring to the pool for now until I get some more mining funds and can buy a few more miners.

You need two things here at Kano pool. Patience and a decent pair of dance shoes. If you can summon up some patience and stick out your ramp-up time you will have higher payouts than anywhere else. You will also experience a very active pool community and a very responvie pool operator.

I always have patience for money. I still haven’t figured out the whole ramp up thing yet but I’ll figure it out as I go.

Welcome! Yeah, the hardest thing for new miners to Kano is that it requires a very different mindset than mining on larger pools. When I first started out over two years ago (on two other large pools that find lots of blocks per day) I thought it was cool to see my rewards coming in every day. It didn't take me long to figure out that getting paid 25 cents every day is not nearly as good as getting paid $2.50 per week (those ratios are for illustration only - see previous posts by others for more accurate ratios for S9 miners).
You've made a smart move by joining this pool. mine on!  

[Edit] Oh, and in addition to block dancing, eating chicken is also important important part of increasing our luck  Today I'll be making chicken tikka masala so pretty sure we'll find a block today.

gl man. Yeah I have mine in a shop, separate building than my home. Its small, only 120 sf with a 9' ceiling on a 4/12 pitch for a total volume of around 1000 cubic ft. I started leaving the window open a little but noticed that if it got too cold they lag.   let me know if you want any other infoz

When you say shop, do you have central air out there or are you running a portable A/C or no A/C at all in the summer? I am building a shed to house my miners, currently only 4 S9's but plan to add on as profits allow. I am planning on running an exhaust fan to the shed and boxing in the hot side , while running a portable AC unit with 10000 BTU cooling. This should allow me to keep the shed cool even on the hottest summer days. Not sure what your setup is looking like but I am all about any input other users have on mistakes they may have made in the past or things they wish they had done differently.

I built this shop especially for mining though it has more purpose than just mining including storage and a work bench, etc, with the consideration of a great deal of heat being generated. It is an "open building" in that I constructed it, and when I build the roof system I opted to ommit the 2x6 rafter blocks and went with 2x4 so there is an open air gap at the top of the roof pitch. This is a flat roof, btw.  so considering the rise of heated thermal air, a constant cycle of air is produced. I have no HVAC quipment, just a 3d printer on the desk running sometimes. my miners are on shelving that built at about 6'.

So far, I am very pleased with the design. It doesn't get too hot (yet), though if it does its resolved simply by cracking the window.

If I'm not mistaken, I read that anything sub-100 deg. C is A. O. K.

Mine are thriving in their custom lava submersion tank.

alright, first of all I'm sorry. I'm not sure wtf I was thinking. Those temperature numbers I talked about are crazy. Nevermind that, I wasn't looking at my terminal. I am now. My temps average around 38 deg Celsius, though at times it may spike to 42.

In regards to miner temperature and hashrate variability, here are my findings with my AntMiner S9 after a couple of days:

My miner has stayed within the temperature range of 74 degrees to 78 degrees for the hottest Chip.  When it gets to 78 the fans kick into overdrive and put it down to 74.  If I keep the Antminer S9 in a cooler place, the temps drop a couple of degrees and the fans do not run in overdrive and make much less noise.   I have not seen a difference in hashrate on the S9 Status Screen based on room temperature so far.

The hashrate on the Status screen has been consistently around 13.50 TH/s (Ideal) and 13.68 TH/s (RT).   Not sure what RT means.

I've always understood RT to mean "Real Time" as in what it is currently hashing at that moment, while the other is your average Hashrate over time.
I can't wait to have my shed up with an exhaust fan and some A/C cooling the shed in the summers. These temps in my garage are killing me since it's Arkansas and decided to go from 0 degrees outside last week to mid to upper 50's this weekend and upcoming week. Now I have the garage door cracked outside, and I have the interior garage door opened fully to try and exhaust the heat into the house and it's STILL a little warm for me. As it is it's hitting around 77 and then cooling down and heating back up within 3 - 5 minutes. Rinse, repeat.

Yeah the miner averages are not exactly the same as the pool accepted share/hash rate.
Since shares themselves are random - though they should average about 18 per minute - they follow exactly the same distribution model as blocks.
Meaning, that sometimes they'll be faster than the average 3.333 seconds and sometime they'll be slower.
The pool only sees shares, and calculates your hash rate per shift, based on the value of those shares and the length of the shift.

So e.g. if you submit S=2300 shares, valued at D=4098 each, during a M=50 minute shift, your hash rate would be S x D * 2^32 / (M * 60)
or 2300 x 4096 x 2^32 / (50 * 60) = 1.349 x 10^13 or about 13.49 THs

Please note that I picked those numbers to make the answer look similar

Now what really happens is that although there's expected to be around 2300 shares at 13.5THs in a 50 minute shift, there's actually, randomly, more or less than 2300 shares.
That's the share variance that makes the shift graph go up and down.

But the important point is, the shift graph shows you exactly what each shift is worth in terms of Diff - which is what you get rewarded for.
It's not some averaged out value that isn't what you will be rewarded, it's the actual Diff value, and it's expected to vary a bit.

At the moment there's a lot of shifts in the 5Nd payout range, so that variance effect on the total reward is extremely small, but even when we were larger and finding a few blocks a day, that variance is still very small since at e.g. 3 blocks a day, the 5Nd is about 48 shifts.
