Hey folks,

I'm a newbie and just switched my 4 s9 over to Kano. Someone told me to try Asspool and I was not impressed.   I don't really know much about all of these number and equations/calculations that are often discussed.  But I am HERE TO STAY WITH KANO.  Just let it all ride, lol

So what do you mean when you say ramp up?  People switching back and forth to different pools?  How do the mining blocks get allocated to all the different pools?  In other words, how does Kano get theirs when competing against the big pools?  How do you receive a reward and what for?

Just a lot to comprehend when your just starting out... all the different numbers and calculations overwhelming.  As long as I am hashing, and it shows all good on my miners and Kano workers I am good to go right?  Anything else I really need to pay attention to?

Thanks,

Pecker

No other names were available?  :------P

I want to register Woody.

C'mon, crack this block already ... 1 in 4.5 ...

Well since my first name is Gregory naturally my brothers and sisters started calling me Peck...   Hence Pecker, lol

As a noobie, how can I tell on the charts when we hit/crack a block?  Not real sure what I am looking at in those charts and what they mean...

Thank

Pecker!

Welcome aboard!
GL is what we hope for, but average luck is also good Cheesy
Also lets hope over those 4 weeks we can grow more to reduce that luck variance - joining in of course helps directly with that!

Plan to stay a week or two longer so you can experience the full benefit of being ramped up.

Hey guys.  I love this pool.  Been with Kano since October.  Reading through this weekend's posts, I saw other people Workers' Shift graph showing individul workers.

Anytime I change the workers' names at the top of the graph, and hit update, thegraph is blank.  How do I customize to show each workers shares rate.
I have 4 S9s. For instance my first S9 is Trippank.S9 , the S9b , S9c and the S9d.  I know, really original.

How do I enter the workers' name in the shift graph?  I have tried entering the S9, S9b ... inthe blanks with no sucess.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mine on with Kano-san

Tripp

Edit: Ah Crap.  In researching this, I noticed my rate has gone doen the last 5 hours.  Looks like my original S9 has lost a hash board.  I am rebooting now.    I have noticed that the farthest board on the left always has the highest temps of the 3 boards in all my miners.  I am wondering if it is its physical location in the tube and airflow.  I might switch one S9 boards around to see (change location but wiring order the same).
This S9 was my first. A hahs board failed within a week (bought S9 off ebay for $1750.Wish they were still this price).  I sent the bad hash board to bitmain warranty in US.  they fixed for $175 in about two weeks.  Been worinking great since Oct.  Different board this time.

In regards to miner temperature and hashrate variability, here are my findings with my AntMiner S9 after a couple of days:

My miner has stayed within the temperature range of 74 degrees to 78 degrees for the hottest Chip.  When it gets to 78 the fans kick into overdrive and put it down to 74.  If I keep the Antminer S9 in a cooler place, the temps drop a couple of degrees and the fans do not run in overdrive and make much less noise.   I have not seen a difference in hashrate on the S9 Status Screen based on room temperature so far.

The hashrate on the Status screen has been consistently around 13.50 TH/s (Ideal) and 13.68 TH/s (RT).   Not sure what RT means.

Here is my AntMiner S9 Status Screen: https://imgur.com/a/UdaSg

Now, on the pool website, for worker shifts, my hashrate has varied wildly and randomly between 11.15 TH/s and 14.81 TH/s, but the average is around 13.68 TH/s.

I've always understood RT to mean "Real Time" as in what it is currently hashing at that moment, while the other is your average Hashrate over time.
I can't wait to have my shed up with an exhaust fan and some A/C cooling the shed in the summers. These temps in my garage are killing me since it's Arkansas and decided to go from 0 degrees outside last week to mid to upper 50's this weekend and upcoming week. Now I have the garage door cracked outside, and I have the interior garage door opened fully to try and exhaust the heat into the house and it's STILL a little warm for me. As it is it's hitting around 77 and then cooling down and heating back up within 3 - 5 minutes. Rinse, repeat.

Thanks!  RT meaning Real Time makes sense.

As for keeping it cool in your garage, why can you use a fan to help move the air out?

Yeah the miner averages are not exactly the same as the pool accepted share/hash rate.
Since shares themselves are random - though they should average about 18 per minute - they follow exactly the same distribution model as blocks.
Meaning, that sometimes they'll be faster than the average 3.333 seconds and sometime they'll be slower.
The pool only sees shares, and calculates your hash rate per shift, based on the value of those shares and the length of the shift.

So e.g. if you submit S=2300 shares, valued at D=4098 each, during a M=50 minute shift, your hash rate would be S x D * 2^32 / (M * 60)
or 2300 x 4096 x 2^32 / (50 * 60) = 1.349 x 10^13 or about 13.49 THs

Please note that I picked those numbers to make the answer look similar Smiley

Now what really happens is that although there's expected to be around 2300 shares at 13.5THs in a 50 minute shift, there's actually, randomly, more or less than 2300 shares.
That's the share variance that makes the shift graph go up and down.

But the important point is, the shift graph shows you exactly what each shift is worth in terms of Diff - which is what you get rewarded for.
It's not some averaged out value that isn't what you will be rewarded, it's the actual Diff value, and it's expected to vary a bit.

At the moment there's a lot of shifts in the 5Nd payout range, so that variance effect on the total reward is extremely small, but even when we were larger and finding a few blocks a day, that variance is still very small since at e.g. 3 blocks a day, the 5Nd is about 48 shifts.

Thanks for the in depth analysis!   I have also noticed that the shift time is not always 50 minutes, I have seen it vary up to 10%.  Then if a block is found, it looks like a shift terminates early.

Until recently the cold air was handling the cooling. I have the door cracked so slightly that putting a fan in there I feel would just recirculate the same hot air because it would just bounce off the garage door. Since It's only temporary I'm trying to make it work until the shed is up

Yep there's a few reasons why a shift ends (mentioned on Help->Payouts)
But the full list is:

Default: 100 work changes or about 50 minutes

Also:
1) We find a block
2) I restart the work generator (backend)
3) Diff change (every multiple of 2016 blocks)
4) Halving (every multiple of 210000 blocks)

yeah worker names are allowed to start with a dot or an underscore so you have to add that also to the front
- see the popup when you click on the white ? on the left of the Worker1 input

Sorry if I missed this, but how can we see how much difficulty was accomplished in a shift?

I am not talking about the individual difficulty that I mined - I can see that on https://kano.is/index.php?k=shifts

I am talking about the difficulty mined for the pool as a whole.    For example, I can see that we currently have 3,791,272,282,182 difficulty completed since the last block was found, but is there somewhere that shows that number per shift?

Well you can calculate it from the Pool->Graph Smiley

But no, it's not listed anywhere per shift.

Is kano still alive?
5 days ago i setup 10 pcs of S9 to kano, and still NOTHING.
I think btc.com or antpool is much better.... for example, 10 pcs of S9 on btc.com gives me 0.016 BTC daily.

Well you'd have to look at both the Shifts page and the Pool->Graph
When you move your mouse over the Pool->Graph you'll see the hash rate HR to 2 decimal places.
Find the matching shift (see the time) to work out how long ST the shift was in seconds then:
HR * ST / (2 ^32)
The reason being: 1 Diff is 2^32 hashes - so 1 TH/s is 1x10^12/(2^32) Diff per second - then multiply by the number of seconds in the shift.
