That tells me today is the day activity is calculated. So before today you would have had 28 activity and 1 merit. To be a junior member 30 activity is required, which you just hit.

There were some people here who messaged me about a collocation service I was moving my miners to way back in May, out in Idaho.

I've since moved my machines there (drove them across the country). They've also made me a partner in the business as their "In House Mining Guru" (maaaaaan i hate that title), but it's pretty nice to get a percentage of the business for simply consulting and doing what i love, which is educating on mining.

We're not actively marketing right now due to the market conditions and wanting our customers to be more than satisfied. We feel if we bring in customers who haven't mined before or don't already own their own equipment that they wont be satisfied. We're waiting for the next gen Bitmain miner or some serious market changes in the positive. Kano miners, in my opinion are educated miners so not only do i feel they know the risks, i feel they'll be the best customers. I didn't quite ask my CEO before making this post but writing one in Kano's forum was always part of the plan. And since the site went live a few weeks ago and there's a whole boatload of investment money to be paid back before i even start to realize my portion of the business, i figured I'd post this anyways lol.

again, we're transparent. We're paying .067 cents per kWh, and the hosting rates on the website are negotiable based on volume and, well, how badly our CEO wants to fill the room. So the first few customers we sign on will get decent deals. Not only that but I signed a worse contract than what's currently being offered, and I'm still 100% on the hook for it. Signing up right now will get you a better deal than even myself, a partner is privy to (which actually kinda hurts a bit lol). Even worse than my pricing, I'm locked in a one year contract whereas i believe our current structure is month to month with discounts for signing contracts of varying time lengths.

I feel like I have a responsibility to respond to your post about Six Degrees Crypto and I'm really not trying to be mean or anything.  It sounds like Six Degrees Crypto might be a good place to consider but their pricing model is simply way too high for any hope of making a profit for anyone except maybe those that are buying only the new machines based on 7nm technology like the Avalon 921s or Bitmain's upcoming offerings.  If you look at any earnings calculator a single S9 or 841 is expected to earn $85.79 per month right now so how can they charge $130 (before electricity costs) for an S9 or $125 for an 841?  Even an Avalon 921 is expected to earn only $139.80 per month at the current BTC price/Diff and it draws 1800W.  Am I missing something here?

It might be wise to let potential customers know that the prospects for earning a profit with current generation equipment is impossible to do unless BTC prices goes up quite a bit in the near future.  If you don't take this precaution, Six Degrees Crypto would simply be scamming folks that don't understand the lack of earning potential of their machines...

EDIT:  To be fair, Six Degrees Crypto has not officially opened their doors for business and the pricing on their web site is not finalized by any means as I understand it.  Like all of us, they are watching the BTC market for a legitimate upswing in prices in order to move forward.  Maybe this will work itself out in the long run.

See my response via messages. I encourage anyone interested to completely ignore the pricing structure. We haven't launched in an official capacity by any means whatsoever and I'd likely get a bit of a reprimand for even making this post.

If you have any interest reach out to me or via the contact section on the site. We're eyeing the release of the 7nm miners as an official launch. The owner of the company is willing to negotiate the pricing structure if you're interested before the launch of the next generation miners. But as clgrissom3 states, it's incredibly difficult to turn a profit in the current market conditions. We fully understand that and based on the opportunity a deal can be struck if you need to collocate your current generation miners somewhere. We also don't tie people down with contracts, but reward those willing to sign one. So if it's a temporary housing for current generation before the next gen launches, you might find a home with us.

A follow up from the change I did to the main stratum node the other day:

The stratum node is 3 servers in a round-robin so if you mine to stratum.kano.is, you randomly get one of the 3.
I replaced one of the AWSLS oregon nodes with another provider node in LosAngeles.

So now:
the old node still has about 20% of the miners on it.
i.e. about 300 miners are mining away on the old AWS node that I'm shutting down.
So to push those final miners over to one of the current 3 nodes, I'll stop it.

As before, no one needs to do anything, it will simply be a failover from the old stratum node to one of the other 3.
It will also only affect those ~300 (random) workers on stratum.kano.is

I'll do this in 1.5 hrs at 04:00 UTC so any (of the ~300 miners) that fail over due to that, you will know why.

Again it is just an immediate failover for ~300 miners, nothing more.

Another follow up about 'where' the main stratum node is.

Firstly, no one has to change anything, but if you are close to Oregon you may prefer to make the change in the details below.


I've created a new DNS name for miners that are closer to Oregon than LosAngeles:
stratum+tcp://or.kano.is:3333

The current test run is showing the new LosAngeles server as more appropriate to be stratum+tcp://stratum.kano.is:3333
however, of course, there are some who are closer to the Oregon nodes and may prefer to mine to the Oregon nodes.

Currently, stratum.kano.is still points to both the Oregon and LosAngeles nodes.
So if you mine to stratum.kano.is you will randomly connect to either.
In a week I'll change stratum.kano.is to ONLY point to LosAngeles

So over the next week, anyone mining to stratum.kano.is, who would prefer to only mine to the Oregon nodes, should change their miner Pool0 config to say "stratum+tcp://or.kano.is:3333" instead of "stratum+tcp://stratum.kano.is:3333"

Hello Kano, I've been mining for some time and since i started you have opened several new EU servers. I tried to ping them, but they probably have some protection and I cannot. Is there a way to check each server latency from the provider and location I'm in?

try to ping using setup: ping -n 15 -l 128 sg.kano.is

the nodes that i can not ping (timeout) are:

sg.kano.is, uk.kano.is, de.kano.is

the lowest latency now direct to stratum.kano.is port 3333 around 246ms.

You can't directly ping the AWSLS nodes.
I'd have to completely disable the AWS firewall to enable ping - they don't allow an ICMP option.
To ping them, google for a tcping program.
Then use that to do a tcp ping of any of the pool nodes (AWS or others) on port 8080

When comparing pings it's best to use the same program - so don't compare a standard ping to one node with a tcp ping to another node - tcping them all to compare them.
